Pulp are set to re-form for live dates in summer 2011. The Sheffield band, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, have announced a series of festival appearances for next year, including London's Wireless and Spain's Primavera Sound.

A press release distributed this morning said: "Pulp have decided to get together and play some concerts next summer. The shows will involve all the original members of the band (Nick Banks, Jarvis Cocker, Candida Doyle, Steve MacKey, Russell Senior and Mark Webber) and they will play songs from all periods of their career. Yes, that means they'll be playing your favourites."

Pulp formed in Sheffield in 1978, establishing a cult fanbase before breaking into the mainstream with their 1995 single Common People. They released seven albums, before going on hiatus in 2002. Their forthcoming shows will be the first time the classic Pulp lineup has played together since 1996.

Details of when tickets go on sale have yet to be released, although Pulp have directed fans to pulppeople.com. However, the site currently shows a series of messages such as: "Is this the best news you've ever heard?" and "Is this just a publicity stunt?".

With further details of their reunion shows to be released, the band sign off the announcement of their return with one final question: "Do you remember the first time?"

I predict Jester will cream himself seeing this.

I well hope they will headline Glastonbury.

The press release is wrong in assuming that this is the ORIGINAL Pulp line-up (circa 1978), but it is perhaps their most successful (Different Class-era). I didn't think that they would reform, seeing as Jarvis is doing very well on his own, but obviously there's a demand for it.

PULP!

They're probably never going to match their peak again but a couple more classic singles would be most welcome round mine.

I love the first 3 albums, but hopefully this will be better than that poor excuse of an album they released at the start of last decade.

The first three were It (1983), Freaks (1987) and Separations (1992). Are they the ones you mean?

Ooops, I meant from His 'n' Hers onwards. I don't know why I said that, I knew they were releasing stuff before then.

My favourite band of the Brit Pop era and the one that, along with Suede invented 'the sound' and style of the era.

Not sure I want to go see them again though. Saw them in 1994 and they were great but reunions are rarely the same

Who would have thought this would happen. The only band which I can say were dedicated to brit pop.

So excited about hopefully going to my first Glasto. :w00t:

I'm most pleased that Russell is back in the line-up, they were never ever the same after he left and he was right - 'Something Changed' was a pretty rotten choice of single release. My favourite era by far is the three singles they released on Gift (Razzmatazz, OU and Babies) so I hope there's a good dip into there and His 'n' Hers and they don't devote too much time to Different Class.

I suspect they'll headline Glastonbury - will be watching on TV!

Got me tickets for Wireless, now just have to hope the rest of the bill won't be a festering turd.

first show back.

seeing them at Wireless and Reading :D

I'm so disappointed that they will skip Finland and seems that I won't be able to see there anywhere else either due to work/other stuff

What happened to poprock as a genre anyway... Nobody does anthemic pop rock songs with giant choruses these days? It's all either manufactured and electronic pop/dance or boring indie miss the 90s so much :(

It's of course a bit of nostalgia but still

Lady Gaga knows how to make songs big: Scheisse, Bloody Mary, Hair, Yoü and I... all brilliant songs mostly because they're so BIG and remind me of 80s and 90s
