Colplays entire career was in the 00s. They have sold very little this year. I think they have most likely outsold Westlife on albums.

You think? Colplay have had 3 #1 albums between 2000 - 2010, And missed the Top 40 with a live album. Westlife have had 7 #1 albums in the same period and 2 other Top 3 albums - Also their albums are always released in November/December and sell strongly in the Christmas market....

They inflated Rihanna's album sales :P

They said she sold 25 million albums worldwide, but she's only sold 15-16 million :P

Maybe they meant biggest BRITISH selling act of the decade?

They are possibly up there anyway cant be too far off, they used to be huge.

I assume you mean they meant the best selling act in Britain of the decade? :P

If so, then yes, that is what they meant. Globally they are nowhere close to the best selling band of the decade. They are not even in the top 30 best sellers of the decade worldwide. Eminem is #1 with near 80M, Britney #2 with over 50M and Robbie #3 with over 45M. The Beatles are the best selling band of the decade globally followed by U2, Coldplay and Linkin Park who are all very close.

Pop B!tch - Coldplay have had 4 No.1 Albums in the UK, not 3.

3 of the Coldplay No.1's sold well over 2 Million in the UK.

By the end of 2008, these 3 had sold:,

'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' - 2,690,000 (3 Weeks at No.1) (2002)

'X & Y' - 2,540,000 (4 Weeks at No.1) (2005)

'Parachutes' - 2,435,000 (1 Week at No.1) (2000)

2008's 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends', did not sell nearly so well, but

it was No.1 for 6 Weeks.

Westlife have not sold UK Albums at nearly the same rate. By the end of 2008,

their 2 UK Best Selling Albums were:,

'Coast To Coast' - 1,680,000 (1 Week at No.1) (2000)

'Unbreakable - The Greatest Hits - Vol 1' - 1,645,000 (1 Week at No.1) (2002)

Yes, they have had 7 UK No.1 Albums, & not one of them could manage more than a

Week at No.1. Just as 10 of their 14 No.1 Singles could only remain at No.1 for 1 Week.

twist - ie lie...

Not necessarily. If, as suggested earlier Westlife had gone from 40 to 45 million when rounded to the nearer five million that could have been achieved by selling just a few copies. That doesn't make the statement a lie but it is misleading because some crucial information (the fact that it is rounded to the nearer five million) is omitted.

I certainly do think. See above for the figures.

Surely rounding to that degree is a lie.

Last month MW gave sales of both Rob and Westlife's total since 2000. Rob was over 24% ahead at that stage but his sales would have increased now to around 13.5M.

Already the biggest selling albums artist of the 21st century – with sales of 13,339,555 up to last week, 24.19% more than runners-up Westlife’s 10,741,065

On a different note why did they not put up stats for TT's video? I know their video was longer than JLS or Westlife's anyway but they should have put stats in. Between them Robbie and TT have sold around 110M records worldwide - then of course 14.5M concert tickets, 18 UK#1 singles, 14 UK#1 albums (soon to be 15), 19 BRITS etc etc. <_<

They do it all the time, I remember when Nicole was guest judge they also claimed that PCD sold way more than they actually did. I don't remember the exact number they said but it was so much it actually made me laugh.
hey inflated Rihanna's album sales

What about Westlifes 45 million?

19 Uk number ones- 2 Garys, 6Robbies and 11 TTs.

19 Uk number ones- 2 Garys, 6Robbies and 11 TTs.

If we are going to add Gary, Robbie's, & Take That's No.1 Singles together,

then we may as well do it for Albums too.

So, 'Progress' will be the 16th No.1 Album, connected with them - not the 15th.

Gary has had 1, (1997), Robbie has had 9, & Take That will have their 6th, on

Sunday.

But, where does it end, if we add an 'Act's' No.1's, together like that?

The Beatles - 17 No.1 Singles, Paul McCartney/Wings - 4 No.1 Singles,

John Lennon - 3 No.1 Singles, George Harrison - 1 No.1 Single, (or 2, if

you count the 2nd time that 'My Sweet Lord' went to No.1, (2002), as a

2nd No.1 for him). That's 25, (or 26), No.1 Singles, for The Beatles.

The Beatles - 15 No.1 Albums, Paul McCartney/Wings - 7 No.1 Albums,

John Lennon - 3 No.1 Albums, & George Harrison - 2 No.1 Albums, ('Concert

For Bangladesh' (1972), is credited as George Harrison & Friends). That gives

The Beatles 27 No.1 Albums.

19 Uk number ones- 2 Garys, 6Robbies and 11 TTs.

I wasn't including Gary (thought it was 18 with Rob + TT but you are correct it is 17) but you are right - Gary should also be included bringing it to 19. If Gary's worldwide solo album and single sales, plus of course Mark's then altogether the members of TT have sold over 115M records worldwide. The 14.5M tickets is before the 1.5Mish tickets were sold for The Progress tour so it is now over 16M tickets sold.

And yeah Zeus - you could use this method for loads of bands who had big solo stars - the most impressive being The Beatles- the reason why I was doing it was because that is what their management are doing - they are adding Robbie's solo stats to TT's to make it all sound as impressive as possible. Shame the XF didn't do the same. -_-

When they say records, doesn't that include both singles and albums?

So it's plausible for say Rihanna to have sold 25 million records worldwide.

I know The X Factor like to use random facts and figures from the world over..

It's just like when they were doing #1's Week and they had people performing songs that were #1 in The Netherlands and nowhere else..
