New estimates:

HMV figure of 150,000 applies to them only.

Mid week chart sales: Estimates:

HMV 150,000

Other retailers 100,000

Amazon 250,000

itunes 250,000

Total: 750,000+

Progress could beat the Oasis record.

I second that! I've been just told... I was always secretly expecting ~600K but I still cannot believe they will beat this mosterous record (over 750) until I see it happen. Perhaps some people here predicting 180-250K will eat their hat after all. :teresa:

EDIT: I have no info about their itunes sales... but 250K looks out of the question to me. No album has ever sold even more than 60K on itunes. I believe you have there the Amazon estimate for the whole week together with the HMV estimate for the first day. (HMV total for the week could be 300+)...

This looks like a more suitable estimation: HMV 320, Amazon 200, itunes 90, other retailers 90 (~700K) BUT I don't trust such numbers till I see them officially.

(all this is just an unofficial estimation from a friend in MW)

Too high IMO.

Firstly the 150K figure is for first day - not the full week - it also includes Irish HMV stores. There are only 6 HMV stores in Ireland so I'd say at least 120,000 of those sales are for the UK. If this turns out to be the case then there is no question first day sales will be well over 200,000.

Another problem with this is there is no way it will sell 250K on Itunes - Itunes sales are nowhere near that high for albums.

I'd estimate for the total week:

HMV: 250K

Other Retailers: 150K

Amazon: 150K

Itunes: 40,000

Total: 590,000

That is IF the 150K (well 120K for UK alone really) turns out to be true.

Music Week have an article confirming the 150,000 is for HMV's stores alone in the UK and Ireland. :o

HMV estimates that it will shift up to 150,000 copies of the new Take That album Progress today, after opening all of its 275 UK and Ireland stores one hour early to sell the release.

Consumer demand for the new album, which sees Take That reunite with Robbie Williams for the first time in 15 years, has already moved the album’s release date forward one week and the album has also topped the pre-release charts at Play.com and HMV.

And while lead single The Flood surprised many by not topping the charts yesterday, losing out to Rihanna’s Only Girls (In The World), HMV says it expects demand for the album to be brisk.

"Progress has all the makings of one of the biggest and fastest-selling albums of recent years, and it should comfortably shift well over a million copies in just a few weeks as we approach Christmas - when it will undoubtedly top the festive charts,” says an HMV spokesman.

“Robbie's return to the band is the fairytale chapter that was waiting to be written, and if that wasn't enough, the weekend's TV documentary and show-stealing appearance on the X-Factor will have given the band an incredible platform to connect with a vast family-based audience of millions of fans all over the country."

HMV estimates that should it sell 150,000 copies today, as expected, the album could sell as many as half a million copies in its first week of release in the UK alone.

When will we get combined sales data for the album? Tomorrow?

Hopefully - I would love this to score over the 700K mark but I know thats asking alot!

Over 700k would be crazy. I still remember some members on this forum predicting 200k for the first week

I couldn't get it today. Both Tesco and Asda near us had it in at 9am, a lot they said and it was sold out by lunch-time. They're awaiting a lot more tomorrow.

I read somewhere that 1.2M had been shipped in the UK - that would surely be enough

I notice it is one of the headlines on Sky News about the album being released. The hype is unreal!

That's why it might sell up 600-700k in the first week and outsell Beautiful World in the UK.

BTW: It's 4 on amazon germany already........

I would have thought with all promo lined up for Germany and Robbies status it is surefire no1.

*gets Progress off a torrent to see what the fuss is about*

Promo in Germany only starts in December. Many people don't know the album is about to be released.......

Don't expect it to sound anything remotely like TT's last two albums

I expect a lot of the housewife types who only buy one or two albums a year at Asda will be shocked at the sound of the album and actually quite horrified at how experimental some of the tracks are compared to their normal material. And those who dislike Rob will also be less than pleased at how much he features on the album in terms of vocals and overall style, lyrics and melody.

I am loving the album though. It is getting terrific reviews everywhere - from music mags to broadsheets to tabloids which is very rare. SOS, Kidz and Undeground Machine being my faves. Some great electro pop and brilliantly produced by Stuart Price. :D

The best thing about Take That albums is they make great presents for Christmas. Everyone likes them :)
I'd be worried about getting your granny this one  Seriously, this is nothing like Beautiful World or The Circus. Complete change of direction.

Good. I can't abide most of their stuff - Rule the World and Patience were quite good though.
