Totally agree with you. Obviously its a mix of Mcfly fans, Taio fans and general fans. Ive been a McFly fan from the start so I hope it continues but sadly I dont think it will. They will do well with singles but sadly their albums days are over I think.

It makes it all the harder to make sense of with this Super City website they have, with them having given the album away for free. They gave away a version of Shine a Light without Taio before Shine A Light's release too. I'd like to think they could get a top 10 album again at least. Above the Noise did quite well on Itunes, was top 10 for a few days. The 'fans' usually get the physical copies.

I think I'm on the Song, not Taio side of this debate. Party Girl was good and showed a new side to McFly but I think Shine a Light is a bit safer and non offensive. Not saying Taio doesn't add to the song, just that people aren't neccessarily buying it primarily on his name. Also, comparing the 2 videos, its a brave heterosexual man who buys party girl with THAT video!

I don't think Taio has a large hardcore fanbase tbh, I mean he's literally re-released a studio album with nearly every hit he's ever had and a huge new no1 on it and had almost no impact. Compared to say, the saturdays who people are saying are more of a singles act. They may not sell loads of albums but their sales are reasonable, and more in proportion to the number of singles they sell. Dynamite has sold twice any saturdays singles but the album can't even match headlines. Further, the saturdays singles all sell similar amounts (200k ish) which suggest a loyal fanbase versus the yoyoing taio does.

In the same way, look at the amount of sats chat on BJ compared to Taio despite him arguably being bigger. I mean they're also newer and have a forum, does Taio?

Surely McFlys next single and the style of that will establish if any kind of new pattern is emerging from them. I'll admit I've been more impressed with their recent output, and maligned as they are they have produced good pop music, written their own stuff and formed their own label. Bit more than many of their peers manage!

I agree re: the difference to Party Girl and its video being aimed at the fanbase!

I think another point is airplay actually - I heard Shine a Light playing on Galaxy fm. They're not usually on there, I'm sure!

I really want to see McFly release 'Nowhere left to Run' purely as I'm interested in what the general audience will think. I think the fans are pretty split on it - those of us who are open to McFly trying new styles really love it, but those who prefer the more traditional McFly aren't a fan at all. I think NLTR would do very well on Itunes. If you haven't heard it I'd have a listen.

Ive never said he did have a huge fanbase. But he must have some sort of fanbase if he has had 2 number 1s. Just becuase some of his songs dont do well doesnt mean that he doesnt have a fanbase. As I keep saying, I know his album has done bad so he is obv more of a singles artist.

As for the BJ chat. That means nothing. BJ has always been more pop orientated and thats why there is more chat on the sats rather than Taio Cruz. That means nothing.

I heard Party Girl on Galaxy too, to be fair. The presenter said she thought it sounded like Boom Boom Pow, and I was like "lol no", but I totally see it now! :o

They play Shine a Light a lot though, perhaps because of Taio, because they'll play anything remotely related to him. I think they only reason they're playing Better Than Today is because Kylie is doing a collab with Taio, because that's what they always seem to talk about before and after they play the song!

When I heard Shine a Light the presenter was like "We are looking forward to their new single, collaborating with Tinchy Stryder!" Joking of course. Well, I hope

Never heard Party Girl! Sure they never played any tracks by McFly before then. Makes me think Shine a Light isn't on their playlist just because of Taio though!

Radio 1 have had Shine a Light on their A List longer than usual too! I think. Definitely all helping it chart well.

I hardly doubt thats the reason why they are playing Better than today. Kylies music has always been supported by radio especially Galaxy, and its a very radio friendly song.

"I've never said he did have a huge fanbase". You seem to have misunderstood - my comments weren't directed at you.

Its very easy to say he has some sort of fanbase, that's the kind of statement no one could really argue with but it doesn't mean he has a significant one. And having 2 no1s does not "prove" fanbase- it proves people bought the songs and says nothing of motivation in doing so. Where did this fanbase disappear to for the other tracks I wonder? And in terms of my comparison, I wouldn't say the sats have a huge fanbase either (no did I in the 1st place).

Also, rather foolish to think BJ "means nothing". Of course it means something although does not conclusively prove anything. Any scientific approach would look at sample groups when attempting to prove or disprove a hypothesis- BJ could be one such sample group.

Oh, and Taio Cruz isn't pop? Come on!

Well, Glee Cast had 3 songs in the top 10 on iTunes (Don't Stop Believin', Halo/Walking on Sunshine and It's My Life/Confessions II, I think?), but I think one of them missed top 10 officially.

I can't remember before that. Maybe Michael Jackson in 2009?

Also, some people will tell you it was Eminem, as Not Afraid, Love the Way You Lie and Airplanes were all in the top 10 officially at the same time (I think for more than one week too), but I don't really think that counts, since you can't buy the version of Airplanes that Eminem is on.

It's My Life/Confessions missed top 10 that week. MJ only had two (Billie Jean and Man In The Mirror), plus I don't think Airplanes counts because the version that was top 10 on iTunes was the one with B.o.B./Hayley not Eminem. So I can't remember the last time someone had 3 songs top 10 at the same time!

Olly Murs - Thinking of Me #2 :yahoo:

How All I Want For Christmas is You is already #29 is incredible! Its not even December yet! :o Definitely one of my favourite, and best xmas songs of all time.

Yeah, I heard Kylie's two other singles a decent amount on Galaxy, but still, I find it funny that everytime they play the song they talk about Taio Cruz for ages.

I have found that Galaxy FM definitely favours urban music to pop music. Not that it matters much now, since most songs in the chart are a mixture of the two anyway.

Yes! Olly at number 2.

Hope he is at #3 tomorrow in the official charts.

Maybe his core fans just didnt like it and noone outside of his core fanbase liked it either.

And obviously BJ means something to us pop fans but still doesnt prove anything just becuase noone talks about Taio Cruz or there isnt a forum for him. He may be pop to a degree but lets face it, this site mainly seems to be all about female pop singers, not acts like Taio Cruz so I doubt we would be a sample group becuase we are more into one kind of music, sadly not a general taste overall.

They only mention the Taio Cruz thing becuase its the biggest bit of news following Kylie at the moment and they like Taio Cruz in general, so it makes sence to mention it

Yeah, you're probably right tbh. Also, apparently there'll be another version of Higher which will feature Travie McCoy. :o

Yeah. Thats the american release

Yeah. Thats the american release

Ah, so we can't get it in the UK? :( And does that mean the US won't get the Kylie version? I could understand him throwing a rap verse onto Break My Heart, to make it more US radio friendly, but he's very popular there now. Dynamite was incredibly massive there as a solo track. He did a version of it with Jennifer Lopez, but I don't think that got any notable airplay or anything.

22. Yeo Valley Rap (feat. Mr George & Lisa Roxanne) - Yeo Valley Boyz

It seems to go higher every time the ad is on during XF, it's gotta go top 40 one of these days

27. Creep - Radiohead :o

109. All I Want Is You - U2

126. Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams

232. Creep - Radiohead

The others haven't shown up (apart from Sex On Fire at #164 but it was around there before the show anyway) which leads me to believe this is a feed from around the time of Cher's first performance

Travie McCoy wasn't on Break Your Heart, that was Ludacris who was already popular there

America gets the version with the rapper. The rest of the world gets Kylie. Makes sence I suppose. We can still buy and listen to it I suppose on youtube etc

Creep up to #27 and #232 :o

Creep could go top 40 next week. The Wagner Factor!!!!!!!

Yeo Valley Rap won't be up there for long, it shouldn't really be in the charts it's just an advert meaning to advertise yogurt not a song.

Heroes has also moved back up to #2 knocking Olly down to #3 again, no doubt thanks to its constant plugging in the introduction for everyone on XF tonight.
