They played the explicit version of Forget You on Radio 1 before, so I guess they could play it. They just have to give a warning before they play the song.

It would be only the 3rd hip hop song ever to achieve that by my count (the other 2 being Crazy and Where is the Love?). Looking back through the previous years, they've nearly always been pop or rock songs.

For the average Radio 1 listener, 4 1/2 years represents about 1/2 their lifetime, so that I can understand. Normally 15 years is enough time to judge if an album is a classic or not. Whilst Elephant is only 7 years old, I think it's well on it's way to becomming a classic.
