December 5, 201014 yr This is an incredible chart for underrated classics! Many songs here which aren't remembered as much as they should be, as they were somewhat dwarfed by bigger hits. Especially: Robert Miles - One & One (absolutely beautiful, I listen to this even more than 'Children' now) The Beautiful South - Don't Marry Her (one of my favourite South tracks) Faithless - Salva Mea (incredible song!! As good if not more as Insomnia!) Chicane - Offshore (Saltwater is always played, but this is his other classic)
December 5, 201014 yr Not very memorable chart, only song I've heard in the top 10 is 'Un-Break My Heart'. Anyway yay for 2 Faithless songs, both of which I like (I love Insomnia). That Chicane track Offshore is good too but it doesn't beat Poppiholla :wub:
December 5, 201014 yr Great Christmas #1 :) A beautiful sexy ballad from the Spice Girls, and fourteen years on it still sounds fresh :) Other Songs I like: 02. Dunblane - Knockin' On Heaven's Door/Throw These Guns Away 03. Madonna - Don't Cry For Me Argentina 04. Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart 05. Robert Miles Featuring Maria Nayler - One And One 10. The Beautiful South - Don't Marry Her 15. Whitney Houston - Step By Step 16. East 17 Featuring Gabrielle - If You Ever 17. Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There 24. Babybird - You're Gorgeous 25. Fugees - No Woman No Cry 36. Manic Street Preachers - Australia
December 5, 201014 yr To their credit, "2 Become One" was the best of the Spice Girls' Christmas Number Ones, still stands a decent pop song and at least offered a respectable showcase for Mel C, Mel B and Emma's vocal capabilities. At least the single version removed the verse with the atrocious vocals by Victoria as found on the "Spice" album version. For me, the following also still sound good (and have aged well) today: 04. Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart 05. Robert Miles Featuring Maria Nayler - One And One 07. The Prodigy - Breathe 22. Chicane - Offshore 24. Babybird - You're Gorgeous 39. Faithless - Insomnia My guilty pleasure of the chart: 23. Lighthouse Family - Loving Every Minute Much, much better than their dull Top 10 hits. Also worth a mention for their remarkable chart runs: 15. Whitney Houston - Step By Step Admittedly, one of her better pop songs of her career, and 11 weeks in the Top 40 (7 in the Top 20) without making the Top Ten. 17-15-15-{13}-18-17-16-22-26-25-37 (Chart run info from Polyhex.com) 29. Spacehog - In The Meantime Was a big hit at the time on the college radio network in the States, and achieved six weeks in the Top 40 without getting any higher than 29 - astonshing fo the time, really benefit from the Christmas/New Year lull. {29}-(33)-29-32-32-37 (Chart run info from Polyhex.com) Edited December 5, 201014 yr by Col
December 6, 201014 yr Not very memorable chart, only song I've heard in the top 10 is 'Un-Break My Heart'. Anyway yay for 2 Faithless songs, both of which I like (I love Insomnia). That Chicane track Offshore is good too but it doesn't beat Poppiholla :wub: i cant believe you have never heard 2 become 1 by the spice girls? i mean it may be 14 years ago but it is in every xmas chart rundown and is along with stop the song they promoted themselves with when they returned in 2007/8. maybe you aren't from the uk, or are like 3, i really cant think of any other reason?

On the album, the verse has Geri's vocals, Victoria replaced those.

December 6, 201014 yr The ones I like 01. Spice Girls - 2 Become 1 03. Madonna - Don't Cry For Me Argentina 04. Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart 05. Robert Miles Featuring Maria Nayler - One And One 06. Boyzone - A Different Beat 07. The Prodigy - Breathe 09. Celine Dion - All By Myself 10. The Beautiful South - Don't Marry Her 11. December 6, 201014 yr 01. Spice Girls - 2 Become 1 - One of my favourite girlband ballads and easily the best song off their "Spice" album. 02. Dunblane - Knockin' On Heaven's Door/Throw These Guns Away :( 03. Madonna - Don't Cry For Me Argentina - This is a really dull cover. Though I don't care for the original either. 04. Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart - A great song but way too overshadows her other great releases. 05. Robert Miles Featuring Maria Nayler - One And One - Inoffensive dance track. Pleasant enough listen. 06. Boyzone - A Different Beat - Admittedly this was one of their better singles, along with "No Matter What", but still verges on dull. 07. The Prodigy - Breathe - Great tune. Can you imagine a song like this getting to #1 these days? 08. Mark Morrison - Horny - This is diabolical. Probably the worst song in the chart. 09. Celine Dion - All By Myself - Typical overwrought Celine ballad. Me likes. 10. The Beautiful South - Don't Marry Her - I remember my dad playing us the uncensored version once back then. Talk about corrupting young and innocent minds (especially me considering how young I was!) :D Anyway, this is a really good track with great, witty lyrics. What I like outside the top 10: 14. Faithless - Salva Mea 15. Whitney Houston - Step By Step 17. Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There 20. Warren G Featuring Adina Howard - What's Love Got To Do With It 24. Babybird - You're Gorgeous 25. Fugees - No Woman No Cry 29. Spacehog - In The Meantime 33. Salt-N-Pepa - Champagne 34. Mark Owen - Child 36. Manic Street Preachers - Australia 39. Faithless - Insomnia {1996} Edited December 6, 201014 yr by superbossanova
December 6, 201014 yr You wouldn't think a song like 'Omen' could make the top 5 in 2009, so I have to assume The Prodigy have always just been far more successful than you'd expect from a band like them. Obviously 100% deserved though. 'Breathe' is my favourite song of all time, and there are a few other The Prodigy songs in my all-time top 10. Incredible band. I know this is like the 1,000,007th time I've mentioned it but it really is quite extraordinary that I was born while my favourite song of all time was at #1 (19 Nov 1996). What are the odds? December 6, 201014 yr Yeah, I was very surprised how the singles off IMD did... and you can't really say they did so well because it was The Prodigy considering they had done jack $h!t since 1997 before that. Although being one of the few 30+ acts that Radio 1 actually supports certainly helped, I assume. "Omen" was a great comeback though so its success was certainly deserved. Although my point still remains that nothing like that would get to #1 now :P Top 5 is the absolute glass ceiling. Edited December 6, 201014 yr by superbossanova

They did have a top 5 hit with the EP Baby's Got A Temper in 2002 (although it fell down the chart quickly). And again, although it fell down quickly, AONO *did* get to #1 (although the singles all bombed horribly). And they had another #1 album with their GH in 2005 which had a bit more longevity. So I wouldn't quite say 'jack $h!t' but AONO was definitely a big step down from Fat Of The Land and Jilted Generation But yes, barring a Facebook campaign a song like 'Breathe' would never get to #1 again. Do you have to take everything so literally?? :P "Jack $h!t" was hyperbolic, but they certainly did nothing in that time that would keep their name fresh in the public's minds for their comeback, which was mainly what I was saying.
December 6, 201014 yr I just turned 13... brings back some memories! 01. Spice Girls - 2 Become 1 I can tolerate this 02. Dunblane - Knockin' On Heaven's Door/Throw These Guns Away Usual charity toot,still don't get why charity songs always have to be this way 03. Madonna - Don't Cry For Me Argentina Never liked the Evita era, but musicals are not my thing anyway 04. Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart Nah! 05. Robert Miles Featuring Maria Nayler - One And One Liked it then, but not now... Whitney Houston turned this down apparently?! 06. Boyzone - A Different Beat Yuck! 07. The Prodigy - Breathe Best track in the top ten with ease 08. Mark Morrison - Horny This has the reverse effect on me, sorry Mark. 09. Celine Dion - All By Myself If I end up in hell, this will be on! 10. The Beautiful South - Don't Marry Her I always disliked these immensely, most irritating band of the past 20-odd years! Of the rest, I like: 14. Faithless - Salva Mea Always gets eclipsed by Insomnia, but I think this is their finest moment! Love it! 17. Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There I was 12 and they were the best thing since sliced bread! I'm not proud! 19. Jamiroquai - Cosmic Girl 22. Chicane - Offshore One of the few decent tracks Nick made! 32. Heller And Farley Project - Ultra Flava {1996 Re-release} Will mean nothing to you, unless your into 90s house - this was an absolute anthem at the time and still sounds ace today! 33. Salt-N-Pepa - Champagne 39. Faithless - Insomnia {1996}
