December 5, 201014 yr Author ... Odd follow-up to my comment. :) I like 'We Are The Champions' & 'Another One Bites The Dust', and a few others are OK, but I'm not really a Queen fan.
December 5, 201014 yr I don't know a lot of the old Xmas #1s but these are what I quite like: 2009 Rage Against the Machine - "Killing in the Name" 2005 Shayne Ward - "That's My Goal" 2002 Girls Aloud - "Sound of the Underground" 2000 Bob the Builder - "Can We Fix It?" 1998 Spice Girls - "Goodbye" 1997 Spice Girls - "Too Much" 1996 Spice Girls - "2 Become 1" 1995 Michael Jackson - "Earth Song" 1994 East 17 - "Stay Another Day" (:o) 1991 Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody / These Are The Days of Our Lives" Edited December 5, 201014 yr by FM11
December 5, 201014 yr Just 90s onwards, the ones I loved: 2002 Girls Aloud - "Sound of the Underground" 1998 Spice Girls - "Goodbye" 1997 Spice Girls - "Too Much" 1996 Spice Girls - "2 Become 1" 1994 East 17 - "Stay Another Day" 1992 Whitney Houston - "I Will Always Love You"
December 5, 201014 yr The worst Xmas no. 1 hits 2007 Leon Jackson - "When You Believe" Why? Because it was a terrible song to begin with and this tragic winner's version only helped boost the tracks profile. I'm not saying this is worse than the Mariah/Whitney battle of the high notes ** shudders ** but it wasn't exactly an improvement. 2004 Band Aid 20 - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" I did like this at the time - maybe because of the initial buzz surrounding the song. It sounds absolutely terrible now just a mere 6 years on. 1999 Westlife - "I Have a Dream / Seasons in the Sun" Purely for the horrendous b-side. Never liked Westlife much anyways but everyone knows Artful Dodger 'Rewind' would've made a more interesting (that's "interesting", not better :P ) Xmas #1 this particular year. 1997 Spice Girls - "Too Much" Whilst 'Goodbye' was ok it was clear that Spice Girls had run their course by album #2. This wasn't an inspired track and the Spiceworld film only added to how terrible they became. 1995 Michael Jackson - "Earth Song" 1993 Mr Blobby - "Mr Blobby" 1992 Whitney Houston - "I Will Always Love You" Guilty pleasures. 1989 Band Aid II - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" 1983 The Flying Pickets - "Only You" 1982 Renée and Renato - "Save Your Love" 1980 St. Winifred's School Choir - "There's No-one Quite Like Grandma" 1977 Wings - "Mull of Kintyre" 1972 Jimmy Osmond - "Long Haired Lover From Liverpool" On a seperate note: 1970 Dave Edmunds - "I Hear You Knocking" I didn't realise this was a Xmas #1 ^_^ How very festive but nonetheless a great track.
December 5, 201014 yr Surprised at how many people like RATM's song :o Is that because it stopped The Climb being no.1?
December 5, 201014 yr On a seperate note: 1970 Dave Edmunds - "I Hear You Knocking" I didn't realise this was a Xmas #1 ^_^ How very festive but nonetheless a great track. This song doesn't get the love it deserves generally. Fabulous track.
December 5, 201014 yr 2009 Rage Against the Machine - "Killing in the Name" 2006 Leona Lewis - "A Moment Like This" 2004 Band Aid 20 - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" 2002 Girls Aloud - "Sound of the Underground" 1998 Spice Girls - "Goodbye" 1997 Spice Girls - "Too Much" 1996 Spice Girls - "2 Become 1" 1994 East 17 - "Stay Another Day" 1989 Band Aid II - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" 1987 Pet Shop Boys - "Always on My Mind" 1985 Shakin' Stevens - "Merry Christmas Everyone" 1984 Band Aid - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" 1981 The Human League - "Don't You Want Me" 1973 Slade - "Merry Xmas Everybody" 1963 The Beatles - "I Want to Hold Your Hand" Xmas #1's are more often than not terrible. My favourite out of those would be Leona, GA, Spice Girls x3, Pet Shop Boys and Shaky.
December 5, 201014 yr 1999 Westlife - "I Have a Dream / Seasons in the Sun" Purely for the horrendous b-side. Never liked Westlife much anyways but everyone knows Artful Dodger 'Rewind' would've made a more interesting (that's "interesting", not better :P ) Xmas #1 this particular year. Wasn't The Millennium Prayer xmas #2 that year? If only for them stopping that from being the xmas #1, I'm grateful of the existence of this single
December 5, 201014 yr the xmas no1s from the 80s are quite good, although i always forget about the 1982 rennee and renato one and the 1986 jackie wilson one - was jackie wilson a 50s singer??

Yes, both Band Aid II and Band Aid 20 suffered the same fate. As an 8 year old I thought Band Aid II was brilliant but now I find it really embarrassing. As for Band Aid 20, I thought at the time it was a unique cover of the song incorporating elements of all the big bands from 2004. Now it just sounds a mess whilst the original 1984 version stands head and shoulders above the two versions that followed.
December 5, 201014 yr 2008 Alexandra Burke - "Hallelujah" 2007 Leon Jackson - "When You Believe" 2006 Leona Lewis - "A Moment Like This" 2004 Band Aid 20 - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" 2002 Girls Aloud - "Sound of the Underground" 1998 Spice Girls - "Goodbye" 1997 Spice Girls - "Too Much" 1996 Spice Girls - "2 Become 1" 1992 Whitney Houston - "I Will Always Love You" 1989 Band Aid II - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" 1985 Shakin' Stevens - "Merry Christmas Everyone" 1984 Band Aid - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" 1975 Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody" 1973 Slade - "Merry Xmas Everybody" 1963 The Beatles - "I Want to Hold Your Hand"

December 5, 201014 yr because its a genuinely amazing song anyway, this simply bought it into the public eye True
December 5, 201014 yr Apart from the 50s ones I don't know, I'm not averse to any of these: 2009 Rage Against the Machine - "Killing in the Name" 2003 Michael Andrews & Gary Jules - "Mad World" 2002 Girls Aloud - "Sound of the Underground" 1998 Spice Girls - "Goodbye" 1997 Spice Girls - "Too Much" 1996 Spice Girls - "2 Become 1" 1995 Michael Jackson - "Earth Song" 1994 East 17 - "Stay Another Day" 1988 Cliff Richard - "Mistletoe and Wine" 1987 Pet Shop Boys - "Always on My Mind" 1986 Jackie Wilson - "Reet Petite" 1985 Shakin' Stevens - "Merry Christmas Everyone" 1983 The Flying Pickets - "Only You" 1982 Renée and Renato - "Save Your Love" 1981 The Human League - "Don't You Want Me" 1979 Pink Floyd - "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" 1978 Boney M - "Mary's Boy Child / Oh My Lord" 1977 Wings - "Mull of Kintyre" 1976 Johnny Mathis - "When A Child Is Born (Soleado)" 1975 Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody" 1974 Mud - "Lonely This Christmas" 1973 Slade - "Merry Xmas Everybody 1971 Benny Hill - "Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West)" 1968 The Scaffold - "Lily the Pink" 1967 The Beatles - "Hello, Goodbye" 1966 Tom Jones - "Green, Green Grass of Home" 1965 The Beatles - "Day Tripper / We Can Work It Out" 1964 The Beatles - "I Feel Fine" 1963 The Beatles - "I Want to Hold Your Hand" 1962 Elvis Presley - "Return to Sender"
