Posted December 13, 201014 yr So, Ireland 2011. Sorry guys - Jedward have been confirmed (I think only to participate in their selection, not sure whether it's confirmed if it's their entry), according to The Hits Radio. Edited December 13, 201014 yr by Robot
December 13, 201014 yr It'll be just to participate in the selection - and that's not even confirmed. Justin Lee Collins said he'd be going for the Irish selection this time last year IIRC...
December 13, 201014 yr Oh god... I'm kinda embarrased... I guess we made it fairly clear we don't take Eurovision seriously after Dustin the Turkey though...
December 13, 201014 yr Author It'll be just to participate in the selection - and that's not even confirmed. Justin Lee Collins said he'd be going for the Irish selection this time last year IIRC... I've just heard they're confirmed?
December 13, 201014 yr They're confirmed for the selection. The way it's working is 5 people from the Irish music industry (record company execs, writers, producers etc.) are each selecting an entry of their own choosing and will mentor that entry. One of them, Caroline Downey-Desmond, is working with Jedward and currently searching for a song for them. Apparently a number of high profile writers are in the frame.
December 13, 201014 yr I've just heard they're confirmed? And don't worry, we all believed you except for Tyron.
December 13, 201014 yr Robot say what? Oh dear god. :manson: They ruined X Factor last year, please god don't let them near Eurovision.
December 13, 201014 yr I must be alone in thinking that it would be great, then :( Great for whom exactly?
December 14, 201014 yr Don't necessarily see why people get so serious at the thought of Jedward taking part in an open competition. They're a novelty act, just like Silvia Night, and the fact that people actually think they're being serious is what worries me the most. Yeah, they can't sing (they even know that) but Eurovision has seen worse so I don't know how this would undermine it or whatever. I'd rather Jedward had fun with a current sound than some product of Linda Martin/Rté taking themselves too seriously. I think people need to lighten up a bit. If you don't like them, then don't vote for them? :P Edited December 14, 201014 yr by Cal
December 14, 201014 yr Personnely i cannot stand Jedward but there is no doubting how popular they are here in Ireland and probably popular enough to win the eurosong regardless of the song. The fact thye cannt sing is what worries me, hopefully they dont get through to represent Ireland as im sure there will be better songs and singer in eurosong when it comes around.
December 14, 201014 yr God no please god no. I'd rather be brutally murdered in a cheap horror flick than watch Jedward represent us. Listening to them sing is one thing....but actually having them repesent us as a country. no no no no no no Eurovision called, it has a big fat last place prepared in advance for Ireland. :manson: Only Ireland and the UK will get Jedward, it'll be Dustin all over again. The only difference being that Irelande Douze Points will sound like Mozart compared to the cringefest of Jedward. At least we have the juries to hopefully put a stop to them... Edited December 14, 201014 yr by Sabrewulf
December 14, 201014 yr Great for whom exactly? For myself. I love watching them perform, so it would be brilliant to see them perform on the Eurovision stage. Edited December 14, 201014 yr by Jack Pilgrim
December 14, 201014 yr Indeed, only UK and Ireland will 'get' Jedward. Other countries will just think how awful they are vocally (amidst the rest  ). Non-qualifier, if they GOD FORBID make it to Germany. Verka Serduchka was so far the only 'novelty' act to have achieved really great success in Eurovision (and it seems reasonable why), i doubt it'll happen with Jedward.
December 17, 201014 yr Back when they were on The X Factor last year, it seemed obvious to me that they'd be trying out for Eurovision 2011, and lo and behold here we are... They'll no doubt get selected if they're in the national final, especially after Niamh's floppage last year with a fairly decent song. I just hope we don't have another Leona Daly scenario, because I'm still adament she could've done really well in 2008!
December 18, 201014 yr Ya i agree, it will be like the dustin year that it doesnt matter how good the other songs are jedward will go through regardless.
