The end of the year is almost upon us so it's time to reflect on everything we watched in 2010.

So discuss your favourite shows of the year and those that disappointed you:

Any new shows you started watching?

Shows that you've drifted away from?

Favourite characters or scenes/episodes?

Any memorable moments?

Anything you're waiting to see in 2011?

etc...

Feel free to post youtube vids as well.

Any new shows you started watching? Cougar Town

Shows that you've drifted away from? Not really, I got bored of Ugly Betty but now i love it again

Favourite characters or scenes/episodes? Bobby from Cougar Town. I want a friend like him  Plus he lives on a boat.

Any memorable moments? Ugly Betty getting her braces off.

Anything you're waiting to see in 2011? I don't know yet.

I appear to have written an essay and pretended I am Grace Dent for the day. YAY.

Anyway. General thoughts on the year in telly as follows.

-Glee. I’ve truly become obsessed with this, you can call it a High School Musical rip-off if you want but frankly it would just make it stupidly obvious how you haven’t watched the show. It’s given us some fantastic music performances, a true icon of amazingness in Sue Sylvester, and a wonderful mixture of comedy and dramatic storylines as show by Chris Colfer in more recent episodes. Not without fault of course but for me it has to be the #1 of the year.

-Being Human & Misfits. I lumber these two together as I feel that in terms of British drama they are up there as the top two, and both also have some similarities. Misfits is currently running for it’s second series, and is one of the best things around at the moment, the show is so much better what it first showed itself to be and can transform an utterly ridiculous plot into brilliance. Being Human returns for a third series early next year, and has given us the joys of Lenora Crichlow and Aiden Turner. Again, so brilliantly written I just adore it.

-The Apprentice. It started off seemingly rather weak in compared to last years run but things soon picked up. In and amongst the genuine good candidates, there was a nice mixture of bitch knife fights, insanity, StuBags the brand, Sandeesh’s eyes, Stella being amazing, Laura being an arse, SAUSAGE CURRY & PAPRIKA and the world being treated to the marvellous dictionary of Melissa Cohen. It was a brilliant year.

-The X-Factor also seemingly upped it’s game somewhat this year. It was no longer frowned upon to enjoy it so to speak, since literally everyone did. In and amongst the good performances put in by the likes of Rebecca Ferguson, we were given the pleasures of Wagner and his bongos, One Direction being topless on various occasions, Katie Waissel’s pure existence, Nicolo Festa, a little Lenny Henry, Aiden threatening to murder us all with his eyes alone, Mary shouting COME! at us for what felt like years, Diva Fever being the gayest things ever, and that’s just the contestants. Let’s not even start on the judges and the fact that Konnie Huq was possibly the worst and therefore the best TV presenter ever.

-Big Brother on the other hand farted out a rather all right farewell. The entire thing was rather overdone by Davina though, possibly because it was thought at the time the show would return on Five. It was a time for the show to end though, as proved by the various ridiculous evictions this year, and the landslide that Josie Gibson won by. I enjoyed it, considerably more than last years in fact but there was something bittersweet about it. It wasn’t the nicest of farewells.

-Miranda. My new obsession, which I insist everyone goes to watch. Utterly hilarious viewing from start to finish.

-Coronation Street provided a surprising week of Soap brilliance a few weeks back with its 50th anniversary, whilst EastEnders failed to live up to promises under Bryan Kirkwood it did provide one of my best moments of the year which was when Pat called Janine only for ‘’FAT PAT – CALLING’ to appear on the screen. AMAZING. The live episode was good, and Lacey Turner’s departure shall be unfortunate for all.

-Donwton Abbey was also absolute brilliance on ITV’s part much to everyone’s surprise and made for absolute must viewing.

-Lost ended. As did Ugly Betty. I’ll miss both and both went out on a reasonable high despite my mixed emotions on the Lost final episode.

-Doctor Who had a mixed series filled with great episodes but equally some p***-poor ones, though both Matt Smith and Karen Gillan fitted in wonderfully into their new roles.

-Special mention to The Road To Coronation Street as was shown on BBC4 earlier this year. Again, one of my highlights of this year by far.

-Actually thinking about it, it was a rather brilliant year for telly I think. Lots of good shows suddenly became amazing shows and some marvellous new stuff got made. Well done tellyland.

SO MANY SHOWS.

Anywayz

+ Being Erica

AMAZING Canadian TV show i've become addicted to earlier this year. In 3 seasons they've managed to touch almost everything a person would experience in their lives. Just incredible.

+ Lost

Too bad it ended. So good, so mysterious. I miss it.

+ Leverage

Probably my favourite show of this year. Despite the unlikelihood that any of those things happening in real life the show is still great. You just forget about some things that don't particularly make sense and continue watching. The cons used there are genuis' work. Definitely anticipating the Season 4 in 2011. And 2 more episodes are TOMORROW! :w00t:

+ Bones

+ Dexter

  So far the best idea to base a TV show on.

+ Chuck

+ Glee

+ Psych

One of the funniest current shows. Got interested in it back in 2008 or even 2007 can't quite remember. Definitely highlight of today's television.

+ Weeds

Funny. Intense. Smart. Beautiful. Interesting. EPIC.

+ United States Of Tara

As most of the Showtime TV shows this one is as great. Pretty smart idea for a main story too.

+ The Big C

Showtime

+ 30 Rock

Tina Fey is AMAZING, and my new Jesus Christ. The show's seriously something incredible.

+ Misfits

+ Doctor Who

+ V

+ American Dad!

There's SO MANY MORE TV shows i have watched. So, honourable mentions to: Lie To Me, Castle, Mentalist, Nikita, Hellcats, Lip Service, Lost Girl, Skins, Tower Prep, Persons Unknown, Fringe, Hannah Montana, Human Target, The Simpsons, The Big Bang Theory which redeemed itself in the 3rd season, Mad Men, Futurama.

I'm sure i have forgotten at least 20.

And as for the worst shows i can't really tell any. :( I either end up loving the show or just finish watching it after only seeing the pilot hence don't remember. The only ones i have in my mind is Reaper (so awful. It is so Chuck-alike but so godawful) and How I Met Your Mother (the worst TV show i've ever seen. Family Guy is placed 2nd). Other than that i think i drfited away from Gossip Girl, 90210, One Tree Hill, etc. (all the cheesy teen dramas).

Great shows - True Blood, Vampire Diaries, Being Human, Shiki (anime nerd :kink:)

Recent discoveries - The Walking dead (show & comic) and No ordinary family.

Drifted away from - Glee...(I missed a few eps but I saw the christmas one)

I'm lucky I have so many amazing shows to keep me going while some are on break.

Highlights for me,

I won't do a worst as we live in a time where we watch what we want when we want, so by that logic i havent really seen any bad tv, obviously the worst would be The X Factor and Eastenders but have I sat down and watched those, f*** no, so I can't really say so.

anyway, best of 2010 in my view:

(this is not in order but assume that Lost>>>>>>>everything else)

LOST: The Final Season

oh f***ing yes. The best TV show of all time comes to a fantastic and meaningful ending, easily the best season of TV this year, answering some of our biggest questions since the first season, getting very deep into the mythology, and to top it off, the best acting on TV this year by far. Micheal Emerson and Terry O'Quinn are clearly some of the best TV actors of this time, if not ever. Infact here is a highlight scene for me, showing just how fantastic Micheal Emerson is as an actor.

I think the fact I still feel emotional impact of that says alot, brilliant brillant acting and he deserves any award he gets. I'm not going to say this was the best season of Lost, but for sure was the best thing on TV this year, initally I was fairly skeptical abaout the "flash forward" storyline but I thought it summed up the characters and how far they have come thanks to the island since the first episode, and I also thought it was a beautiful ending, I get a feeling a lot of people misunderstood it, but I thought it had a lot of meaning, let's face it, we could have got a meaningless ending.

Dexter Season 5

Ok so this only ended on Monday, but just like every other season of Dexter, this was another fantastic season and Michael C Hall as usual was amazing, if it wasn't for Micheal Emerson on Lost, Hall would possibly be the best television actor. I felt this was a weaker season than the last one, but still overall strong, but with a much stronger second half to the season than the first, it definatly felt slow to begin with but once it got going it was great, definatly didn't match season 4 which is easily the best season to me strong from start to finish, but even weaker than the other season's, this still was one of the best shows on this year, I think now Lost has finished this is now my favourite currently running TV show, definatly in terms of US tv anyway. Now for a Vince Masuka gif:

The Inbetweeners Series 3

Not as good as season 2 or 1 but still had me laughing my ass off all the time, i'd say half this series is really really good and half this series is a bit weak, then again there are much weaker episodes in the first and second series aswell. My highlight episode for sure was the gig episode, although the realism of it was at a all new low, it had me laughing so so much, also you have to love the one where they go to Warwick, I love the dialogue between Simon and Tara's sister "Well i'm not happy you're having sex but at least I know you'll be doing it somewhere comfortable" "oh, of course, only in the vagina" "I MEANT MY BED" then Jay comes in "why'd you say vagina then?", and of course in the gig episode when Jay tries to buy weed off Donovan "Let me do you a special team twat deal" *rips open tea bag, puts tea leaves in cling film* "here you go", "that's tea" "are you calling me a liar?" "what do you say?" "thank you for the puff".

Boardwalk Empire

This was the HBO highlight for me this year, some of the best TV writing this year added with some fantastic acting thanks to the brilliant Steve Buscemi, and with Martin Scorsese involvement. This clearly is the next Sopranos or The Wire. Great writing, great cast, great direction, what more do you need.

The Walking Dead Pilot and Finale

I thought the start and ending of this short season were fantastic, but the episodes in the middle ruined it completely, awful acting, bad writing and ruining the carefully crafted characters.

Fringe Season 2 finale

I thought the ending of season 2 really showed just how much the show had developed since the start, the last so many episodes show the show getting really good, definatly some of my most enjoyed TV hours this year.

The Pacific

I definatly need to re-watch this and I don't think it did quite as good as Band of Brothers it was still a well written, well acted and well produced mini series by Spielberg and Hanks.

----------------

2011 Anticipation:

-YEAR ZERO (HBO/BBC series based on the Nine Inch Nails album 'Year Zero')

-Dexter Season 6

-Torchwood Series 4

-The Inbetweeners specials

-Life's To Short (new Ricky Gervais and Stephen merchant comedy)

-Alcatraz (forthcoming JJ Abrams project)

without writing an essay :P

Any new shows you started watching? Glee (and I have officially become a gleek! :magic: ) Skins also and I loved it :D

Shows that you've drifted away from? Doctor Who was a letdown looking back on it, and whilst I was sad Big Brother ended, it definitely needs a few years off

Favourite characters or scenes/episodes? Hmmm, I dont really focus on these  I just like the show as a whole

Any memorable moments? well X Factor was pretty memorable, as it always is with controversy and car crashes ahoy, also I must say the live episode of Coronation Street and Eastenders were both brilliant :o

Anything you're waiting to see in 2011? the new series of Glee of course :cheer:

other shows I've watched include Merlin, The Inbetweeners and The Cleveland Show

Highlight of the year for me was definitely Glee.

Other shows I enjoyed were True Blood, White Collar, Criminal Minds, NCIS, Vampire Diaries, and well many more actually.

Really disappointed with Supernatural season 6, it is a real let down compaired to the previous seasons. Also lost interest in Dr Who this year.

Worst show has to continue to be Master Chef.

Will add more to this a bit later...

I've not watched as much TV this year as usual (I think), but I'll just briefly review a few things I have watched.

- Glee

I started watching Glee with the UK public this January, and went in with a closed mind like a lot of people on this site will've done. The moment I knew I'd be watching the complete series, though, came with Mercedes's line "I'm Beyoncé, I ain't no Kelly Rowland!". I know a lot of people bash this show for the unoriginal covers or the fact that it's just like High School Musical, but once you get to know and love the characters, you'll be hooked. I'd never think I'd ever watch a TV series online, either, but every Wednesday I sat down at my computer to find the latest episode of Glee online and every week I loved it! I'll also hopefully be receiving the season one boxset in five days' time!

- EastEnders

I missed about a month of action last December (including Tanya's farewell and Stacey and Bradley's () returns). So when I returned to the continent I didn't know whether I'd continue watching, but after catching the Christmas week episodes on BBC iPlayer, I knew I'd be hooked throughout 2010 too! My favourite storyline was definitely (as cliché as it sounds) the "Who Killed Archie?" reveal week, in which we saw the heroic Bradley fall to his death; and of course the Masoods and Stacey in general have been highlights. I'll most likely be in tears on Saturday when we see Lacey Turner bow out of the show forever, as Stacey is the character of my personal EastEnders viewing (2007 - present).

- Doctor Who

I have been a massive Doctor Who fan in the past, so when I originally saw this series broadcast, I was slightly disappointed. David Tennant is another actor who I've grown up with, so it was sad to see him leave the series for good (although he can never return) on New Year's Day of this year. Matt Smith, whilst a good actor, has never really met up to his predeccesor's standards, and has often been overshadowed by his companion Amy Pond (the amazing Karen Gillan). Anyway, I did however absolutely LOVE the closing two episodes of the series, despite the massively overcomplicated plot. I just feel that Steven Moffat has sunk a bit too deep and can't handle the pressure of the series, as great as his stand-alone stories in the past have been. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Christmas special and the sixth series next year despite all of this!

- Alan Carr: Chatty Man

It's been said by others elsewhere, so I'm just going to echo them; this show is brilliant no matter who the guests are! Katy Perry was amazing when she was on, and Alan always manages to get great musical guests! I can't wait for Cheryl's interview tonight and the performances should be great too!

- Big Brother

This has been another that disappointed me this year. I've watched Big Brother (pretty much religously) since 2005 and despite how bad the last couple of series had been, I defended them anyway. My favourites in this series were evicted by the ridiculous public (and the even dumber production team), or walked. Josie was always one of my favourites from the start though, so I did love that she won, but when you saw who was left in the top five with her, it's not hard to understand why. I will miss it next year, but it does need a break, so I wouldn't mind if it came back in 2013 or something.

And then I got a bit bored, so the rest that I've enjoyed this year are:

- Ugly Betty

- The X Factor

- The Apprentice

- I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

- The Inbetweeners

:D

Best:

24 / Season 8 (R.I.P.)

Castle / Season 2-3

The Vampire Diaries / Season 1-2

Doctor Who / Series 6 (never lets me down)

90210 / Season 2-3 (improved so much!)

Futurama / Season 6 (i'm so glad it's back)

The Big Bang Theory / Season 4 (it's got better after an awful season 3)

Community / Season 1-2

Cougar Town / Season 1-2 (also improved since its beginning)

Merlin / Series 3 (not as good as the other series but still amazing)

Parks and Recreation / Season 2

Worst:

Family Guy / Season 9 (i used to love fg but it's been a let down recently)

Chuck / Season 4 (this is too horrible, why don't they just end it?)

X Factor / Series 7 (although i watched it till the end, it was a horrible series and the only one i had no favourites)

Hellcats / Season 1 (i started watching this but it's so mediocre i might give it up. thumbs up for Aly Michalka though)

$h!t My Dad Says / Season 1 (ridiculous and not funny)

Looking forward in 2011:

New seasons of: Parks and Recreation, Greek, V, Futurama, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Merlin, Sherlock.

Best

Glee

Series 1 was amazing  best thing on telly but Series 2 really has failed to live up to the first series imo, too fame obsessed now including as many celebs as poss

Miranda

Amazing  shes hilarious, definitely one of the better shows of the year

Coronation Street

Since Phil Collinson has taken over it's gone from great to amazing for me  so much better one of it's stronger years by far

Come Dine With Me

Obvious reasons

Loose Women

Really try and catch this now more often  rather into it

Worst

X-Factor

I enjoy watching it but it just really winds me up, Simon Cowell has began to really get on my nerves, used to like him. Think it's becoming a tired format and should end soon.

I'm A Celebrity

Once again I think it's such a tired old format now

I thought Doctor Who got off to a bit of a shaky start this year but it got steadily better and was as good as ever by the end of the series.

Like many people I've enjoyed Misfits and Being Human so I'm looking forward to another series of the latter. As Aled said the plot of Misfits is about as ridiculous as they come (making even Being Human seem plausible) but it works brilliantly.

Outnumbered was another highlight and I'm looking forward to seeing Daniel Roche (Ben) as Just William next week.

The Jimmy McGovern series Accused (which finishes tonight) has been as brilliant as would be expected from one of British televsion's best writers.

Bones is involved so this is going to be an essay.

Bones

So 2010 saw the arse end of Season 5 and the Start of Season 6. Season 5 returned with a run of good, strong episodes leading up to the epic 100th episode. Insanely brilliant acting by Emily Deschanel [That woman seriously needs an Emmy win asap] and a massive emotional roller coaster. The season finale provoke more emotion from me than any other TV episode ever has including pillow throwing at the TV. The mix of weird and wonderful cases, an exceptional supporting cast, that will they/won't they romance, dark comedy [provided by the ever excellent Tamara Taylor], comedy, drama, suspense, romance and enough ups and downs to beat the worlds longest rollercoaster has continued into the sixth season, and i just can't bring myself to hate Booths new girlfriend. I know that i should as i am a B&B shipper, but i just can't do it. The character has been very well written and acted. The mid season finale was a new peak in Emily Deschanels amazingness. That woman has been getting more and more amazing throughout 2010 and wow, 609 was emotional, evocative and one of the best episodes of the entire series.

The undisputed highlights of 2010 for Bones have to be the entriety of 603 - 'The Maggot In The Meathead' where Bones took on the Jersey Shore phenomenon and won with one of the funniest episodes of Bones i have ever seen. Included Emily 'throwing the crab' PURE GOLD. The 100th episode was brilliance, and it was amazing to finally see that first case and Brennan's High School Reunion was hilarious.

Glee

Easily the best newcomer to TV last year, it has continued to excel in 2010. It's light entertainment at its finest. The right mix of emotional drama, comedy and musical cheer. Sue Sylvester, Britney/Santanna and Queen Quinn Fabray are some of the best characters on TV right now. Glee gave Dianna Agron her big break, and for introducing me to her i will forever be grateful.

Drop Dead Diva

This show premiered in 2009 on Lifetime, but i just found out about it this year. It's amazing, completely brilliant. Brooke Elliott is definitely one rising star. It's well written with interesting and wacky legal cases, and the great struggle of Deb to keep secret that she didn't die, she just hit return and ended up in Jane's body. It's comedic, with just the right amount of serious and a nice amount of drama and romance. I hope it continues for years to come.

CSI/NCIS/CSI:NY

I'm just going to lump the 3 together as they are quite similar. All three are continuing to keep my craving for Forensic Science covered with a nice dash of romance, serial killers, psycho's, drama and humour mixed in. Three great shows, unfortunately since Grissom left CSI has lost a little of it's spark and i am yet to watch the new series of CSI:NY without Det. Stella Bonassera. I am heartbroken she quit as she was amazing.

True Blood

Season 3 of True Blood was addictive as ever and as good as ever. First time i had read the book before watching the series so i knew what to expect in a way, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment.

Weeds

This continues to be one of the best Dark comedies on TV, Season 6 followed the Botwins on the run after Shane murdered Pilar at the end of season 5. It was 13 episodes of hilarity, mishaps and drama as Silas discovered Judas wasn't his father, and he wanted to go to College. As with Season 3, 4 and 5 the show ended on a mammoth Cliff Hanger. I can't wait until season 7 to find out just how Jenji is going to write herself out of this corner.

The Apprentice

This really should be marketed as a comedic look at the world of Business. This year gave us some brilliant lines, utter stupidity [WHO TURNS DOWN EXCLUSIVITY WITH BOOTS!!?!?!?!?!?!??!????!?!?!?] complete c**ts who really do deserve to be shot in the face [Oh Hai Baggs] new levels of delusion and arrogance [Oh Hai Baggs] and some frankly baffling decisions by 'Lord' Alan Sugar. [Laura surviving past week 2, Stuart sliming his way to the interviews over should have been winner Liz, Stuart making it past wk 1, Not firing all 3 of the morons in wk1] This remains to be compulsive viewing and by far the best reality TV show ever created.

Honourable Mentions

Gossip Girl - Another strong season for the Teen drama, which has improved since Taylor Momsen did the decent thing and f***ed off. The Juliet storyline gave us a great start to the year.

Nurse Jackie - A brilliant dark comedy from Showtime is gripping and Eve Best is utterly sublime.

Gilmore Girls - YES I KNOW THIS WAS CANCELLED YEARS AGO. I just got into it in the summer and have since watched season 1 through 7 3times. I'm in love.

Dollhouse - Technically 2009 but i only just watched the second and final season. Every bit as good as the first if not better.

Secret Diary Of A Call Girl - Every bit as thrilling as the first 2 seasons, really gutted 4 will be the last.

Shows i'm going off

Ugly Betty - Quite glad 4 is it's last season, it's starting to feel a little tired as of the end of S3.

Big Bang Theory - Penny and Leonard are a DIABOLICAL couple.

X Factor - 2 years of $h!t contestants, 2 years of terrible winners. Can Cheryl go to the US and never come back? Maybe one of the retarded bible belt hicks will mistake her for a wild animal and do us a favour.

Utter Garbage that should just FOAD

CSI: Miami - This would be quite good if it wasn't for the diabolical cast. Horatio Cane should be shot in the face, point blanc, with a shotgun. Monstrosity of a TV character.

Ha, i don't think X Factor should be even called a 'tv show'

Worst:

Chuck / Season 4 (this is too horrible, why don't they just end it?)

:'(

I'm on the opposite liking it more and more. Have you reached the last episode they ended with this year?! It's all so going to be much much more amazing. I'm also interested to see the progress in Chuck and Sarah's relationship!

Forgot a lot actually but also in the TV shows I've enjoyed- Alan carr and Being Human (this was amazing, got me watching the first series on the internet! )

a disappointing one would probably be Britain's Got Talent- it just felt a bit empty this year

Big Bang Theory - Penny and Leonard are a DIABOLICAL couple.

I SO agree, but season 4 has moved on from them being a couple and is back to being amazing

Thank GOD. Season 3 was almost unbearable. I haven't seen any of Season 4 yet as it airs against Bones in the US, and i have priorities and Bones trumps everything with the exception of Breathing and Mutya Buena
