Arcade Fire - We Used To Wait

Ou Est Le Swimming Pool - Dance The Way I Feel

Muse - Undisclosed Diseres

Amy Macdonald - Don't Tell Me That It's Over

Groove Armada - Paper Romance

I'm sorry but I can't accept Muse. It was released as a single in all major territories in 2009 and its parent album was from last year too.

Big Boi 'Shutterbugg'

Beach House 'Norway'

Ariel's Pink Haunted Graffiti 'Round and Round'

Sleigh Bells 'Crown on the Ground'

Belle and Sebastian 'I Want the World to Stop'

The Black Keys 'Tighten Up'

M.I.A. 'XXXO'

Marina & The Diamonds 'Guilty'

I Am Kloot 'Proof'

The Count & Sinden 'After Dark'

Sorry if too many

Sorry can you reduce the list to five? Otherwise I will pick 5 of them. Belle and Seb has already been picked, and I'm not sure whether Big Boi would generally be discussed in here.

Sure. But if M.I.A. belongs here (as her album was discussed in this forum) then Big Boi definitely too. If you leave Big Boi out, please leave M.I.A. as well. Just my opinion.

Undisclosed Desires was released to radio in the US/Canada this year, but everywhere else in 2009.

Sufjan Stevens 'I Walked'

Sleigh Bells 'Crown on the Ground'

Lykke Li 'Get Some' (if considered alternative? I'd say she is.)

Laura Marling 'Hope in the Air'

Delphic 'Acolyte'

let's be real big boi belongs here, he headlined pitchfork festival and every single indie publication luvs him. he's hardly dominating the charts.
Sufjan Stevens 'I Walked'

One of my least faves from the album :(

Muse released The Resistance as a single this year for anyone who wants to nominate them.

I've no idea as I've never heard the song. The threads on both the single in question and his album aren't in here though....

One of my least faves from the album :(

HOW HOW HOW?! :(

Definitely one of my favourites along with 'Vesuvius' and 'Impossible Soul'.

I'm presuming 'Impossible Soul' will be nominated by someone else though so thought I'd go with 'I Walked'.

But then a lot of those indie publications love Kanye and put him high up on their end of year lists and he sure don't belong here. Same with Big Boi.

It's hard to draw the line here. Don't get me wrong, I'd be fine without Big Boi in this poll. It's just that lots of people who listen to Arcade Fire and MGMT listen to Kanye and Big Boi.

These nominated songs indicate that indie is more a state of mind than a genre. In that sense, Kanye is not less indie than say Biffy Clyro or Marina & The Diamonds.

My faves would be 'All For Myself', 'I Want To Be Well' and 'Vesuvius' i think. Although it's my album of the year so every track is at least 8/10

I'd agree that indie/alt has twisted completely into a new shape what with all the dance/synth/electronica that's around now but I personally think that Kanye and Big Boi are a different genre entirely. The title of this thread is the indie/alt record of the year whereas those indie publications also cover other types of music. Indie/alt is probably the most elastic genre around especially considering it doesn't just include four blokes playing guitars bass and drums anymore.

I wouldn't include either of those artists in the indie/alt multichart.

Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill

Errors - Supertribe

Holy f*** - Latin America

The Phantom Band - O

Steve Mason - All Come Down

Teenage Fanclub - Baby Lee

The Wonder Villains - SpaceJam

Divine Comedy - At the Indie Disco

Tunng - Hustle

Kele - Tenderoni

*EDIT* here's my 5 nominations.

Edited by Brett-Butler

I don't think these have been included yet, some great tracks so far though.

Baths 'Maximalist'

Broken Social Scene 'Chase Scene'

Diamond Rings 'Show Me Your Stuff'

Fang Island 'Daisy'

Joanna Newsom 'Good Intentions Paving Co.'

I hope someone will nominate the song Pigeons by The Hundred in the Hands:
