Duffy :o (Biggest shock, what happened there! Is it the end for her?)

KT Tunstall

James Blunt

Kylie

Adam Lambert (thought he'd do better in the UK)

Many, many more.

Take That and blooming Michael Buble seem to have a monopoly on album sales at Christmas. People see Take That/Buble and think to themselves, that'll do nicely for {gran, sister, neice, mum, aunty, .... insert other}

Why did you put Kylie there? She's released a Platinum selling #1 album, had a top 3 hit, a top 15 single, and only one underperforming single which was 'Better Than Today'.
Kylie has done average to poor
Id also add the Saturdays
I agree with Kylie, she has done poorly in my eyes! It's almost forgettable that she released anything this year!

Kylie definitely underperformed, compared to the hype and promo she got, she's struggling to reach platinum.

However, Christina Aguilera is the biggest disaster of 2010 by far.

The album has only sold around 260k, which os poor considering it's Kylie Minogue who has been around for 20 odd years and she's had an X-Factor performance and three single releases. All The Lovers did okay, not amazing, but still okay. GOMW flopped, and only got as high as #12 becaiuse of her physicals. Did it even sell 50k? As for BTT, even X-Factor and Children in Need couldn't save it from it's dire #32 peak.

Sadly I have to agree with people. She has underperformed "by her own standards". I agree that a number 1 album that is nearly platinum is great, for most people, but its she is used to a lot more in the UK and worldwide.

I agree with you excpet for saying that "All the lovers" did just ok. Its been her biggest selling single since Cant get you out of my head. So its done more than ok. Plus acts with over 20 years in the industry and bound to drop massivly sales wise becuase its norm just the harcore fans that buy it.

Christina Aguilera - Why I'd love to know. The saddest thing is walking bacteria bin Britney would do well with anything :(

Duffy - I think Nu Soul is out of the window now. It makes me wonder how Amy will fare with her album in 2011

The Hoosiers - Yes #11 with "Choices" is a decent result, but the album did not do very well.

Scissor Sisters - Album and singles haven't fared too well sadly :(

Maroon 5 - "Misery" made mid to low 20s and the album fell like a stone.

Alesha Dixon - I did assume top 10 featuring on the Roll Deep single was a sure-fire way to give her a bit more attention but it wasn't to be.

Kate Nash - The album did poorly and aside from "Doo Wah Doo" the other two singles did not chart.

Kylie I would put as a moderate success - the album carries more weighting imo and "All the Lovers" was a big hit.

I expected way more from Duffy  .

BIG OFF TOPIC but it bugs me so i have to say it:

I am very tired how misogynist is the thinking in the music industry and very often here on forum. It is perfectly ok for the men that a feminine act without voice or talent to be on top just because her video is " soooo gooooddd" (aka dance and beautiful girl) but is a nono for woman to like something different, they have a less taste if they like man for good looking for example.

I am very disappointed how often is written here "the music is for the housewoman" as if these woman would be people of third niveau. It may be that women like other music as men, but way do you men believe you have the monopole of good taste and only what you hear is good? :puke2:

So what if an artist is more targeted for the women? Why should we hear your music made from some long-legs-not-another-talent artists? Just because men have something between the legs doesn't mean that they have a better taste, a better ear...

I expect from educated people on a music forum to think more when they want to show that a music is bad in their opinion as putting that "this is music for gran, sister, niece, mum, aunty, .... insert other". I bet your mother / sister/ gran / aunty ...would be happy to know how you think about their taste in music.

Just because men have something between the legs doesn't mean that they have a better taste, a better ear...

Firstly, I want this quote to be framed and hung in the Buzzjack Hall of Fame. Classic!!!

I understand what you're getting at. The thing is Michael Buble releases what I would describe as "easy listening". It's radio friendly, inoffensive, somewhat bland to an extent. It's just that this is the type of music that elderly people tend to listen to. For eg; my dad hates Matt Cardle and says "you don't call that singing, he's just screaming into a microphone". For the record, my dad likes Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. ;) A different type of male singer altogether.

I was shocked when my aunty (who is now in her 80s) bought 'No Matter What' by Boyzone back in 1998. However, that's a prime example of pop music appealing to people over a certain age - and that people 60+ do buy music if they like a song/artist enough. There's probably people over 60 as I post this sat in front on their iMac's downloading a Cliff Richard song right now. :D

Put it this way, I wouldn't consider buying Tinie Tempah's album for my aunty. :kink: Would be hilarious to see her reaction though.

I expected way more from Duffy

Going back to your first comment, I personally thought 'Well, Well, Well' was a really average track to be chosen to introduce Duffy's second album. Some people have said there's better tracks on the album. So why didn't the record company choose one of them? I reckon they're trying to recreate 'Mercy' but they're failing miserably. It didn't help when 'Rain On Your Parade' was released in 2008 - a poor man's 'Mercy'. Also Duffy's vocals seem to getting higher in pitch with each new album. Imagine what she'll sound like by album #5. Dogs will be happy. :P

Lady Gaga! JOKE

Seriously:

Christina Aguilera

Kate Nash

Diana Vickers (in my opinion, she may have had a #1 single and album, but her sales are shocking)

Duffy, Kate Nash, Christina Aguilera, Diana Vickers, Nadine Coyle, Scissor Sisters, Joe Mcelderry, Alesha Dixon, Hoosiers, Maroon 5, Kelis, Sugababes, Robyn list goes on.

KT Tunstall? Did she even release anything :o  she must have underperformed for me not to even be aware she released something..

I can think of more underperforming females then males, i wonder why, maybe more to choose from this year or more female artists?

KT Tunstall

Katie Melua

Duffy

Alesha Dixon

Shontelle

Nadine Coyle

Ciara

Kelis

Kelly Rowland

Robyn

^^ underserved flop's IMO.

Christina Aguilera

Scissor Sisters

Maroon 5

James Blunt

^^ deserved such a boring and bad albums IMO.

Diana hasn't underperformed - because IMO there were no expectations for her in the first place, nobody finishing in 4th place in X Factor before has ever been thought to get a shot at the charts, let alone a #1 album and single.
