Great to see Little Mix have got the highest first week sales of the year. I wish they would give us sales data from time to time though.

So do I, and its not as if they don't have it, they just refuse to give it out.

Is there any particular reason for that does anyone know?

I dont know why they are so secretaive about sales, im sure Little Mix have very decent sales so at the least they could release figures for a good sales week.

Fingers crossed that Downtown makes it to no 1 next week....

No, lets hope Winter Song is #1 :D
Just looked up Gotye on iTunes there, and having been previously available for months, both 'somebody that i used to know' and his album are now available only on pre-order, with a release date of January 1st. Does this mean it's gonna be promoted over here? :o
It's getting a UK release in February IIRC. As for the Irish Christmas #1, I'm team Downtown all the way, I don't really like the Saw Doctors but I love the song

Military Wives are flopping arse on Irish iTunes, not even top 40 - why could this not happen here as well? :( In any case I'm sure they'll easily take the Xmas #1 anyway considering Ireland's chart is more affected by physicals anyway.

And Coldplay are top 20 with Charlie Brown :o *emigrates to Ireland*

It actually now says Gotye is out on 1st January 2012 on UK Itunes as well. They better not mess up the release, considering how huge its been everywhere, it'd be massive in Ireland and the UK if given the chance.

Do you want me to recite Irish History to give you the reson why Military Wives arent doing their thing in Ireland?

I found that out myself after doing a bit of research myself, thanks :)

This song is gonna be HUGE in about two months time

I'm.... aghast

Can someone please explain this? Was what I said in some way offensive or something? Genuinely confused here.

Let's just say it would go down the same way as the German national anthem would go down if it was released as a single in the UK! ;)

Does The Saw Doctors have a physical release as well? Without it,i doubt they'd be #1. Looks like Little Mix may only get 2/3 weeks at #1 though as they are now down to #5 on itunes. I bet if Rubberbandits had released their single this year and not last year against Matt I'd bet money they would have beaten LM to #1.

Did anyone see the Irish itunes top 100 of 2011? Rubberbandits were #1 :o

Shaky - Do you know if any radio station are doing a chart of the year countdown this year? I remember last year a Irish language station did it as I remember not knowing what they were saying

  • Author

No word as yet on a year end chart on 2FM - like it's UK counterparts the RTE Guide double issue only covers to Friday 29th December. Normally Larry Gogan does the countdown when its on - he's on between midday & 2pm from the Monday to Friday "playing the biggest albums of the year" though I would doubt that would be the Year End chart. I would say that there is a good chance of something over the weekend though.

I'll be keeping a close eye out for any shows and if any come to my attention I'll post the details here. You may remember I posted the rundowns from last year on You Tube - this year I hope to go one better and record the entire show (if one is broadcast) as I no longer have a monthly download cap on my broadband and also I am able to get better quality recordings.

Regarding the Saw Doctors there IS a physical release - a one track CD retailing at 99 cents. Available from a number of stores it is also available from the band's own website where they have had over 700 orders since last Friday. In fact demand has been so great they had to email around half of all the buyers today to apologise that they can't get any more posted until after Christmas. On the plus side for those of us affected the band have promised to sign all copies going out next week. Today FMs Ray Foley has been running a campaign on his lunchtime show and even had the band in studio today for a chat and to play a couple of songs

Chart Track Commentary

Xmas Mix

For the past five years the X-Factor winner has occupied the coveted Christmas No 1 spot on the Irish Singles Chart and this year is no exception as Little Mix hold on at the top for a second week with ‘Cannonball’ to take the festive crown.

The Saw Doctors collaboration with Petula Clark on her classic ‘Downtown’ provides the nearest challenge, entering the chart at No2 to match the No2 peak for her original 1965 release and improving on No14 for the 1988 re-issue. Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson drop one place to No3 with ‘Winter Song’, ahead of Coldplay who slip from No3 to No4 with ‘Paradise’. This week’s second highest new entry goes to YouTube sensation Alex Day for his self-released debut ‘Forever Yours’ which enters the chart at No20.

Michael Bublé celebrates his third Christmas No1 Album this week as ‘Christmas’ takes a fourth week at the top - having previously dominated the Christmas Charts in 2007 with ‘Call Me Irresponsible’ and 2009 with ‘Crazy Love’. After a truly record breaking year with 29 weeks at No1 and a further 9 weeks at No2, Adele’s ‘21’ climbs back to No2 from last week’s No8, while Westlife’s ‘Greatest Hits’ also makes a surge in the right direction, moving from No6 to No3. Olly Murs climbs a place to No4 with ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ while Rihanna’s ‘Talk That Talk’ drops two places to complete the Christmas Top 5.

Such a shame that the latest X-Factor dirge is the Christmas No.1 for yet another year, I was really hoping Winter Song might do it. I'm not particularly crazy about the song, but it would have been the perfect Christmas No.1
Wow Saw Doctors did well, i went to see them a few weeks ago!!!
