January 6, 201114 yr Author btw chris seeing as though a couple of us have rated it so far maybe at the end of each film discussion they could be rounded up to an average to compare the rating with future ones or whatever.. just an idea yeah why not. infact on the main film club thread i'll keep a list of every film, with said rating. so if everyone could add a rating that would help the average
January 6, 201114 yr I'm not overly keen on giving films marks out of 10 as it's overly subjective most of the time but in the interests of joining in I shall. Marks out of 10 would be: Personal enjoyment 6. Excellence of film making 8. Giving a final overall mark of 7 from me.
January 7, 201114 yr I sort of felt the metaphor with the girl in the painting was overdone on purpose, like Amelie and the glass man both knew they were talking about her. I felt I could relate to her as a character (I am extremely shy), so I guess that just depends on who is watching. I'm not sure whether I agree that the first 30 minutes are best or not, they definatly bring us into the quirky world of the film in a successful way, possibly the msot interesting 30 minutes of the film, i definatly enjoyed her backstory alot, but it appears I might be in a minority that I think the bulk of the film was just as good. I think i can agree with your conclusion, the filmmaking of Amelie is superb and really shows how independent european cinema can be far more interesting (especially with expressionism) than your standard Hollywood, I'm not the biggest fan of Rom-Com's but I found this much more interesting than your average rom-com, the story wasnt 100% focused on the romance, more focused on the unique mind of Amelie, which is partly why I found it more interesting than the average rom-com, and also I think the fact it was an independent French film helped (fun filmmaking style, not in the boundries that Hollywood films have). aye i completely agree about the restrictions of it. you can kinda get the sense that they had no constrains in making it in how different from every other film i've seen it is. though i suppose that could be down to it being foreign, the director or just it being such a different story being told. and yeah i'm really shy sometimes too and i think that's why i like it as much as i do too and can relate to it as you say
January 7, 201114 yr I'm going to try and find time to watch this again. I haven't seen it since I was like...16, but I absolutely adored it then. What a soundtrack. It's just visually a beautiful film.
January 7, 201114 yr a 10/10 film for me. I'll write up a review when I find time. In my top 10 films of all time. Audrey Tautou is a phenomenal talent.
January 9, 201114 yr I wasn't overly keen on this movie :( I know it is considered a classic but it isn't the sort of film I usually watch. That being said, the soundtrack was really nice and Audrey Tautou is a good actress 6/10
January 14, 201114 yr Absolutely incredible. So well shot, and the story is just brilliant. I have a desire to learn french just so i can watch this movie sans subtitles. I will have to buy this on DVD. 9.7/10
January 18, 201114 yr Author So many votes and so few reviews :( Kudos to those that have so far though indeed only 7 people have watched it, where as there was 19 votes. that said i'm happy to continue doing it with as little as 7 people but it would be nice for those who said they would and those who voted to actually bother.
