I really thought I made a thread about this, as I gasmed when the trailer got released, anyway, this is a JJ Abrams being all secretive type project, produced by Steven Spielburg. So sort of the same style as Cloverfield in the way we have a trailer but no barely anything about it.

My friend linked me to this sometime last year and I was incredibly excited! Very 'Cloverfield' type hype going on! JJ really knows how to work the hype machine, doesn't he? :lol:

he really does, he often leaks pilot episodes of his tv shows on the net, to create the hype. But I think in the case of Cloverfield/Super 8 is that he is just a master of mystery.

That looks pretty good, not much to giveaway though.

JJ Abrams & Speilburg? YS PLS. This looks fantastic!! & I for one absolutely loved Cloverfield, so I can't wait to see this :D

Looking forward to this. I know it's directed by JJ Abrams but it does look like a classic E.T-era Spielberg film.

Seeing this on Sunday! :D EXCITED.

Liked it quite a bit. It reminded me of Stand By Me and Goonies. Well-made and very entertaining. And the kids weren't irritating like they often are in films.

When I was on Harry Potter in the cinema there was a trailer of 'Super 8' (in English) - I had goose bumps throughout the trailer :o Is it really worth to see? (61% on the Czech & Slovak movies portal)

thought this was good. not as good as cloverfield though. some of the kids dialogue got annoying.

Just got back from seeing this and I loved it.

 

The train crash was particularly brilliant. It reminded me of the opening scene of Lost with the plane crash.

This was brilliant. The kids were generally pretty good, certainly both those playing Alice and Joe avoided being the usual precocious child leads. The action scenes were WONDERFUL (the train crash and the town/warzone scenes) and there were plenty of heart-in-mouth moments to keep you on edge.

The only thing that lets it down is the woeful ending.

So the kid just tells the alien "I understand" and it backs down just like that? Nonsense - very E.T.

 

Turns out it WAS basically Cloverfield meets E.T. then.

Still really liked it and the special effects and the way it was shot in general was incredible. Also felt really nostalgic .

Saw this yesterday with the kids and yes it IS really good and highly impressive in places but the above spoilered points are so true

I loved this HOWEVER there is no way in a hell a car would have caused a train to derail and crash like that and for the man in the car to still be alive! the train would have just smashed into the car and obliterated it!
