Posted January 13, 201114 yr Haven't noticed a thread on this lot yet but what does everyone think? I've heard a lot of comparisons with The Strokes and whilst I can see it both their two recent singles remind me more of early Ramones ad The Vaselines. Anyone else like them? dU9hrd35Dsg LJ1TGlpCUKA&feature=related
January 13, 201114 yr Wreckin' Bar was one of my favourite singles of 2010. I'd like for them to explode like The Strokes, but I fear that they may just fade like The Drums.
January 13, 201114 yr Not really sure what the hype is all about, they're perfecly decent but there's little of the urgency that you got in early Strokes records like New York City Cops, Hard to Explain or Last Nite.
January 13, 201114 yr Author Not really sure what the hype is all about, they're perfecly decent but there's little of the urgency that you got in early Strokes records like New York City Cops, Hard to Explain or Last Nite. That's almost exactly what I felt about The Strokes. Never got the fuss. They just sounding like a NY rehash of The Fall's more mundane moments to me and nothing new or exciting. I'm not suggesting The Vaccines are anything new just I think they're really good at what they do and after years of turgid 'indie' bands like The Kooks, The Hoosiers and Scoutning For Girls they're a welcome breath of fresh air. January 13, 201114 yr Post Break Up Sex is literally horrible. I don't know if it thinks it's clever for referencing break up sex or whatever (so postmodern!) but it comes off tacky as hell.
January 14, 201114 yr They're only just better than ok. There are considerably better bands doing similar stuff out there - like Ringo Deathstarr.
January 14, 201114 yr Don't think The Vaccines are that similar to Ringo Deathstarr though. Vaccines are kind of a Ramones-y rama-lama band while Ringo are more of a shoegaze/MBV band.
January 14, 201114 yr Dunno, Ringo are a strange bunch - Elliott was hugely influenced by The Ramones and it shows in a couple of tracks on their album while The Vaccines aren't really all that much like them at all to my ears.
January 14, 201114 yr True but The Vaccines are following in that tradition of short sharp rock 'n roll songs that The Ramones perfected even though they don't sound that much like them.
January 17, 201114 yr Really love this. Not sure if they will be UK top 40 though. Edited January 17, 201114 yr by Jason
March 26, 201114 yr Anyone else got the album? Listened once so far and my first impression was it's quite good. 'If You Wanna' makes me feel like I'm back in 2005/6 and I love it!
March 26, 201114 yr The album is good but not outstanding. As I said in my commentary they remind me of Eddie and the Hotrods at times. For younger members, weQ4oNk7Pqc
March 26, 201114 yr I downloaded the album last week as it was the £3.99 one on Amazon but I have yet to actually bother to listen to it.
March 28, 201114 yr I think the reviews of this album in general have been pretty sobering. The NME et al are desperate for a new flagship band to get indie back 'cool' again, but The Vaccines are not it.
March 28, 201114 yr I absolutely hated Post Break-Up Sex BUT If You Wanna is actually really good so i'm still quite undecided as to whether i like them or not
