RIP No Ordinary Family :snif: Now we'll never know what happens with the baby or how the Powells work with the government.

Such a promising life cut short by the cruel executives.

Ok I'm done now...

They weren't cruel to be fair. As a network, you can't waste money by keeping a television on the air that has a low audience. No ordinary family was given it's chance.

I just read that United States of Tara has been cancelled. Is this true?

SOMEBODY HOLD ME :(

It's true indeed, the current (third) season will be the last. Nurse Jackie has been renewed for a fourth however.

I am absolutley gutted about The United States of Tara. Such a fantastic show.

But i do love Nurse Jackie a bit more so i am gutted but happy at the same time.

I've only seen the first season of each so far but season 1 of Tara blows Jackie out of the water. As a show it's got so much more heart and it's much less mean-spirited. But I do have a great deal of appreciation for Jackie too, I just find Edie Falco to be fairly unsympathetic whereas Toni Colette could give almost anybody a masterclass in acting.

Tbh, I don't see why showtime are bothering with Jackie, its ratings are far from spectacular - and although I do like it - it's just so grim. The Big C is much better, imo.

It's ratings are not huge but they are not bad, that's why they are keeping it. Tara lost well over half of it's audience between Series 2 and 3. It's not like the ratings suddenly dropped this year. If Jackie's ratings go below the usual 400,000 ratings, then Nurse jackie's Season 4 could potentially be its last.

It's on Showtime though, so Ratings aren't really useful indicators of if a show will be axed or renewed.

I'm really hoping Weeds gets axed this year, and I freaking LOVE that show.

USoT

Actually it is

Anything below 200,000 viewers is cancellaton worthy. Maybe below 300,000 viewers as well.

Anything above 500,000 is a smash hit.

Ratings are used to set advertising rates, Showtime is a subscription service so they get money regardless of if you watch the show or not. Other factors live DVD sales and bringing in new customers are more important to Showtime than the ratings.

On HBO and Showtime ratings are pretty much useless and they look at other things first that actually make them money.

On a broadcast and cable network they would lose money from a poorly performing show as the ad rates would be $h!t, Showtime/HBO don't make money in that way hence Ratings being as good as meaningless.

That's not entirely true... overall ratings (figure rather than share) are more important on cable than on network television. DVD sales and yearly subscription figures/retention rates factor in too but ratings definitely play a part which is why Tara, average about 300,000 an episode this season, is a goner.

'The Big C' had probably the best season finale of any show this year - it was just perfect, almost wish it wasn't getting another series - but then again, its ratings were pretty big.

The series finale for United States of Tara was oddly perfect considering they were planning a 4th. Such a shame. The last few episodes were absolutely brilliant with Bryce!
 Time to start season 3 and MOURN properly after that.

I am making my way through series 3. 6 episodes in

I have heard nothing but fantastic reviews regarding the finale so i feel i won't be wasting my time to end up being left on a $h!tty cliffhanger.

The ending is very satisfying. For a show filmed months ago having no idea on it being cancelled, you would think they were ending the show anyway.
Did they live happily ever after? Because it'd be the only satisfying ending for me. :(
