Posted January 19, 201114 yr I was at work today listening to some music and the sound was incredible but the lyrics just didn't do the trick for me. I was listening to Minus the Bear's new album OMNI, a band that I really like for their musical compositions, but their lyrics are sub-par most of the time in my opinion. So I wanted to hear your opinions......
January 21, 201114 yr I think Lady gaga's just dance have very poor lyrics. I mean you don't need a high established songwriter to come up with "just dance, gonna be ok". But you can't deny it's a great dance track.
January 21, 201114 yr Katy perry's Firework is really good, but 'boom boom boom even brighter than the moon moon moon' is more laughable than inspiring
January 21, 201114 yr Katy perry's Firework is really good, but 'boom boom boom even brighter than the moon moon moon' is more laughable than inspiring  Also do you ever feel like a plastic bag
January 21, 201114 yr there's many great dance songs out there that have pretty dull lyrics. mainly because they're from other parts of europe. that, or they're just bad songwriters. :kink: the main one that springs to mind is alice deejay - 'better off alone'. my second favourite song ever, but it only has two lines in it, repeated many times.
January 21, 201114 yr Taio Cruz's Dynamite sounds like it was written by a five year old ... same with alot of Black Eyed Peas songs, 'Meet Me Halfway' in particular.
January 22, 201114 yr Dance music is a good starting point for this. The Prodigy's "No Good (Start the Dance)" has about two lines repeated maybe half a dozen times but it's still a supreme piece of music. Same to a lesser extent with "Smack My Bitch Up". The better half of Oasis' "Be Here Now" still had some pretty ropey lyrics, the standard of the music just elevated it above crap like "Magic Pie". My favourite song of all time, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" hardly has amazing lyrics - they're a bit generic if anything - but I love it anyway.
January 22, 201114 yr Maria Haukaas Storeng - Hold On Be Strong 'Love can be hard sometimes, yes it can catch you off guard like bad crimes' :drama:
January 22, 201114 yr Because all the good crimes dont catch you off guard. He's right. I like that lyric
January 22, 201114 yr Boom Boom Pow and i gotta feeling are very poor written songs. What is that horrible cringey line. I think it's "i'm so 2008, your so 2000 and late.
January 23, 201114 yr The lyrics to OneRepublic's 'Stop And Stare' were probably among the worst I'd ever heard, also Orson's 'Bright Idea'. It's always worse when songs which are supposed to be "serious" songs and not novelty tracks or cheesy pop songs have lyrics like the two I mentioned.
January 23, 201114 yr Orson No Tomorrow. Although there is nothing good about the song tbh. "Tomorrow there's no school so let's go drink some more red bull" DEEP
January 23, 201114 yr Boom Boom Pow and i gotta feeling are very poor written songs. What is that horrible cringey line. I think it's "i'm so 2008, your so 2000 and late. Firstly, it's "I'm so 3008, you're so 2000 and late". Secondly, I don't think that was horrible and cringy at all. To be honest, it was probably the most successful lyric of the entire year. I still hear people use that diss all the time! A bit I found a bit cringy in I Gotta Feeling was when they listed the days of the week "Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, etc.", but that was tolerable. People like that song for the emotions it gives you when you listen to it, so the lyrics aren't too big a deal. :D Taio Cruz's Dynamite sounds like it was written by a five year old ... same with alot of Black Eyed Peas songs, 'Meet Me Halfway' in particular. Bit of trivia here. The lyrics for Meet Me Halfway were inspired by Borderline by Madonna. :) Also, about dance music, is anybody really surprised that a lot of the songs have bad lyrics? Lyrics are only put in dance music so that they get played on the radio more, and so people can sing along. Lyrics aren't the point of dance music. Why would they waste time writing good lyrics when they know the people who'll be listening to the song won't care what the lyrics are? I'd rather them spend all their time perfecting the beat to be honest. Edited January 23, 201114 yr by Eric_Blob
January 23, 201114 yr ''Everybody in Love, come put your hands up x4'' I do hate that song but then again I hate all JLS songs, 'cept Eyes Wide Shut ''I'll be sleeping with my eyes wide shut'' - Well, of course you will, you hardly sleep with your eyes wide open :/
January 23, 201114 yr I love Jessie J's song L.O.V.E but the first two lines are appalling: "I said I'd never write a song about love But when it feels this good, a song fits like a glove."
January 24, 201114 yr Boom Boom Pow and i gotta feeling are very poor written songs. What is that horrible cringey line. I think it's "i'm so 2008, your so 2000 and late. I agree 'I gotta feeling' lyrics are pretty random and poorly written, but that line is GOLD
January 26, 201114 yr Back when I was little I used to love the music to Meredith Brook's Bitch but at that age hated the lyrics, same with early Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
January 26, 201114 yr Womanizer wins hands down for this line alone; "Maybe if we both lived in a different world, It would be all good and maybe I could be your girl, But I can't 'cause we don't" Seriously bad...
