January 25, 201114 yr Author Amount of Nominations for those that are in the "Best Feature Film" category. [12] 'The King's Speech' [10] 'True Grit' [08] 'Inception' [08] 'The Social Network' [07] 'The Fighter' [06] '127 Hours' [05] 'Black Swan' [05] 'Toy Story 3' [05] 'The Kids Are All Right' [04] 'Winter's Bone'
January 25, 201114 yr Pleased for Michelle Williams and Colin Firth. :) The latter will win, obviously, but Natalie Portman is a shoe-in for Best Actress. Shocked at the snub for Chris Nolan for Inception.
January 25, 201114 yr Predictions for the major cats: Best Actor Winner: Colin Firth (King's Speech) Runner-up: Jesse Eisenberg (Social Network) Best Actress Winner: Natalie Portman (Black Swan) Runner-up: Annette Bening (Kids Are All Right) Best Supporting Actor Winner: Geoffrey Rush (King's Speech) Runner-up: Mark Ruffalo (Kids Are All Right) Best Supporting Actress Winner: Melissa Leo (The Fighter) Runner-up: Helena Bonham Carter (King's Speech) Best Director Winner: David Fincher (Social Network) Runner-up: Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) Best Picture Winner: The Social Network Runner-up: The King's Speech It's not really looking like a year of great surprises.
January 25, 201114 yr I expected more nominations for Black Swan and The Social Network, although I did have a feeling they were going to ignore Mila Kunis. No Andrew Garfield? He seemed like an obvious choice to me. I doubt The Social Network's ubiquity is fading, it'll still probably win the main categories. Inception did a lot better than I was expecting, eight nominations and nothing for direction? That's three times now Nolan has missed out! Saying that, I did prefer True Grit to Inception... The lack of Julianne Moore is very upsetting, she was snubbed for A Single Man and now this. I'll never understand why Annette Bening has received all the recognition for The Kids Are All Right, her performance was brilliant but rather subtle, not the typical showy Oscar winner (Sandra Bullock won for the subtle approach last year, so Portman will probably win). Julianne Moore has that incredible monologue at the end of the film, I cannot believe no one went mental for it. WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN. Edited January 25, 201114 yr by ▲▲▲

January 25, 201114 yr Have Daft Punk been recognised at all for the Tron soundtrack? Not sure if it counts as an Original Score, not too well up on these things but it was hugely critically acclaimed...
January 25, 201114 yr Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score The Social Network (2010): Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross f*** YEAH.
January 25, 201114 yr Best Supporting Actor Winner: Geoffrey Rush (King's Speech) Runner-up: Mark Ruffalo (Kids Are All Right) Highly doubt this. It'll be Christian Bale who'll win, and Geoffrey Rush will be runner-up. I seriously hope Helena Bonham Carter wins Best Supporting Actress, but I'm pretty sure it'll be Melissa Leo. :(
January 25, 201114 yr Interesting noms. Tru grit not getting any attention at all but now the oscars have taken notice. Didn't expect Michelle williams to get nommed. Great actress and i have yet to see Blue Valentine but still suprised. Glad she has in a way. She never got any recognition when she did dawson's. The fuss was all on Katie holmes but Katie is a duff actress anyway. Hoping burlesque would get a nom for best original song. Oh well
January 26, 201114 yr On the animation front, I'm disappointed that Summer Wars didn't get the nod, but with only 3 films available for nomination this year it was always going to be an outside bet. It's a stunning piece of animation with a real heart, so worth seeing nonetheless. The Social Network is the most overrated film of last year, so I'm not pleased to see it nominated for so many awards, bar the score, which was rather good. Inception will win the soundtrack award though. Darren A will probably have the director category for Black Swan, although it will be touch and go with Christopher Nolan. EDIT - or not, seeing that Christopher Nolan was left of the director shortlist. Edited January 26, 201114 yr by Brett-Butler

I seriously hope Helena Bonham Carter wins Best Supporting Actress, but I'm pretty sure it'll be Melissa Leo. :( Helena Bonham Carter was quite good in The King's Speech but compared to Melissa Leo in The Fighter? Definitely doesn't deserve it. Leo was incredible, as was Bale. I can't imagine anyone else winning the supporting categories.
January 26, 201114 yr The lack of Best Director nomination for Chris Nolan is pretty wrong, IMHO, considering James Cameron got one for his utter w***-fest "Avatar" last year... <_<
January 26, 201114 yr Avatar was the highest grossing film EVER. It was never not going to get a nod.
January 26, 201114 yr Avatar was the highest grossing film EVER. It was never not going to get a nod. I'm not talking about the FILM so much, I'm talking about Cameron himself and how he just cobbled together a load of half-arsed cliches, one-dimensional characters and basically just cut-and-pasted together bits from his actual GOOD films and Dances With Wolves, and shat out a lazy waste of two and three quarter hours..... That doesn't deserve any kind of "award" in my book... Chris Nolan on the other hand has crafted an amazing, imaginitive and thoughtful Sci-Fi epic on a par with Phillip K Dick or William Gibson...

January 26, 201114 yr this. it's clear Nolan has pissed someone off because they missed him a few years ago for his amazing work on The Dark Knight. I don't think so. If he had, then he wouldn't have been nominated for the best screenplay category, although arguably it's not as prestigious as the director nod.
January 27, 201114 yr The Nolan loons seem to be complaining about the Coen Brothers nomination, True Grit definitely deserved it. David O. Russell has always seemed like a strange choice to me. I really enjoyed The Fighter but it was more of an actors film (very similar to Doubt in that respect, Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, Viola Davis all nominated - nothing for direction). Personally, I would have gone for Danny Boyle (or even Debra Granik) over Christopher Nolan. Edited January 27, 201114 yr by ▲▲▲
