February 2, 201114 yr Author So the best song by one of the best bands of all time was beaten by an over-hyped load of rubbish. What more can I say? I've never heard Britney described as a band, before... ;)
February 2, 201114 yr More because of the Kesha/Bruno thing last week. Unless a new single is really dominant, there's always a chance of the initial #1 changing later in the week, as new releases take a day or so to gain full momentum. Bruno was never #1 in the mids last week though? IIRC Ke$ha was #1 with 37k on Tuesday, Bruno #2 with 30k. Edited February 2, 201114 yr by ★BlindFaithBray★
February 2, 201114 yr Author Bruno was never #1 in the mids last week though? IIRC Ke$ha was #1 with 37k on Tuesday, Bruno #2 with 30k. Correct, but it still stimulated me to start this thread - mainly because Bruno *appeared* to be significantly ahead early on, from the pop.bars.
February 2, 201114 yr westlife - the rose november 2006. . . That was #1 anyway  Were U2 & Green Day ahead in the midweeks?
February 2, 201114 yr So the best song by one of the best bands of all time was beaten by an over-hyped load of rubbish. What more can I say? I feel your pain, two of my favourite songs ever, Set You Free and Better Off Alone, were kept from #1 for multiple weeks by an array of horrors from Celine Dion, Rednex, Westlife, Geri Halliwell and Ronan Keating  Thank god I don't think either of them were ever midweek #1's but Better Off Alone was a Woolies #1 back when they used to be relatively accurate :funky: Give it a few more hours sales and Alice Deejay would have taken Westlife, there was only a 498 copy deficit, down from about 10,000 earlier in the week :/
February 2, 201114 yr Was the woolies chart ever in danger of being accurate? I'm pretty sure that record labels used to buy their position on the woolies chart. Anyhow I was gonna say that I remember I Believe My Heart (Duncan and Keedie) and the Manic's The Love Of Richard Nixon being Cduk number ones so they must've been mids toppers, was it Call On Me that beat them or am I miles off?
February 2, 201114 yr That was #1 anyway  Were U2 & Green Day ahead in the midweeks? if ur talking about westlife's , no! I am talking for the second week, eminem with akon, if i remember right were #2 but climbed to no.1 on sunday!
February 2, 201114 yr Wasnt take thats the flood #1 in the midweeks on the tuesday and then rihanna over took and was the offical number 1.
February 2, 201114 yr if ur talking about westlife's , no! I am talking for the second week, eminem with akon, if i remember right were #2 but climbed to no.1 on sunday! It still got to #1, be thankful for that. That piece of dross is the reason my favourite band have never scored a #1 -_-
February 2, 201114 yr Madonna's Bedtime Story was apparently a midweek number one and ended up at number 4 way back in 1995.
February 2, 201114 yr It still got to #1, be thankful for that. That piece of dross is the reason my favourite band have never scored a #1 -_- They were both pieces of dross, the real deserved #1 that week was All Saints with 'Rock Steady' which crashed in behind them both at #3. :(

Maybe so, but I definitely remember it being relatively accurate between the late 90's and about 2004 with a few exceptions (Tommi - Like What was a Woolies #1 in 2003 ). But they continued doing it for another 3 or 4 years and it got more and more wildly ridiculous.
February 2, 201114 yr They were both pieces of dross, the real deserved #1 that week was All Saints with 'Rock Steady' which crashed in behind them both at #3. :( Oh god it's far from Green Day (or U2 for that matter)'s best single but it would have been a more worthy chart-topper than Wetlife. You see Simon Cowell publicly backing these charity singles every year yet when it's one of his pet acts up against a single raising money for another charity, it goes out the window -_- I'm probably reading too much into it, and yes it would have been a victory for pop music had "Rock Steady" got to #1
February 3, 201114 yr Westlife have 14 No.1's. . . . . hahahaha. . . Thank goodness they introduced download sales into the main singles chart. I'll be gobsmacked if Westlife score another UK no. 1 ever again. In Ireland, maybe - but the UK? Gobsmacked.
February 3, 201114 yr Didn't they get a #2 recently though? That song that Heart FM play all the time. I'm sure they were probably close that time. I think they got beaten by a massive selling song like Bad Boys or Fight For This Love, although I can't remember for certain. And actually, we're probably never going to get songs selling 150,000+ like those ever again (apart from charity songs and X Factor songs).
February 3, 201114 yr Madonna's Bedtime Story was apparently a midweek number one and ended up at number 4 way back in 1995. Omg, really? :o   Would have been an amazing #1 I think In For The Kill was a midweek number one, don't know if this has been mentioned
February 3, 201114 yr Omg, really? :o   Would have been an amazing #1 I think In For The Kill was a midweek number one, don't know if this has been mentioned Ouch. In For the Kill really should've got at least 1 week at #1, considering how massive it was. :(
February 3, 201114 yr And actually, we're probably never going to get songs selling 150,000+ like those ever again (apart from charity songs and X Factor songs). It was 'Fight For This Love'. Thing is, Westlife were never massive selling artists - especially in their early days. Out of four UK #1 hits in 1999, only 'I Have A Dream' sold enough to end up inside the top 40 biggest selling singles of that year.
