Rihanna's next single S&M has been banned from BBC Daytime radio. In this day and age should it be?

My poll didn't work.

EDIT. Thanks Mikey for adding the poll.

 Why does this have to be? That means it won't be played on the chart show and it won't get it's needed airplay promotion.

Why can't they just bleep out the words "sex" and any other bad things in the song.

I dare say she'll be delighted - if anything will guarantee it'll go to #1, that will! :P

I'm sorry but LOL.. I just know buzzjack is going to go into meltdown over this.

Rude Boy was pushing it with sexual connotations, but f***ing hell have some common sense with this song. Can you imagine 5 year old girls asking their parents why chains and whips excite Rihanna?

This is a little mad, you hear some of the stuff that still gets played on daytime radio (Rude Boy is a good example), why should S&M be banned?

Because it's a crap song?

Unfortunately logic dictates that if you ban a song, it makes people more eager to hear it, so it'll probably spend weeks at number 1.

BBC bosses have banned it before 7pm and have asked the record company for an edited version and they'll then review the situation.

Don't know if this should be banned or not but c'mon this song is awful after the brilliant Only Girl and What's My Name

And since when a song about sex has reached #1 because it's a song about sex?

Is this some sort of joke? It's banned? Like seriously? I guess that explains why we still haven't heard it on the radio yet then...

I like the song, so I'm pleased in a way, as ironically, banning a song from the radio is a fantastic way to promote it! However, really? It's not that bad at all imo. :( I know it contains the word "sex", but California Gurls does too. Not to mention Sex on Fire. Both those songs are MASSIVE radio hits, as we all know.

To be honest, the song would be fine if they took out the phrase "chains and whips". Or can't they make a radio edit and replace some of the words?

Uh, Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax? A great song anyway but the banning sparked a huge furore over it at the time, and the BBC has been reluctant to do so ever since for fear of the same occurring.

I was reading about that a while ago actually. It seemed the worse thing about that situation was that all the commercial radio stations still played the song, and it was fine for them in the end, and just ended up making Radio 1 look strict and overly-conservative. And apparently they ignored the song on Top of the Pops or something, aswell! :o

Lol only the UK

It'd be so embarrassing if there was less censoring of the song in the US than the UK. :(

In my opinion, it shouldn't be banned. It's not overly shocking or offensive. They could censore out some of the more sexual lyrics, but banning it is hilarious.

Banning a song from radio will in no way promote it apart from cause controversy. Just censor the sexual lyrics and it'll be fine, I can see why the video has been banned but there's been much worse than "S&M", they never banned playing "H.A.M" which contained 40% swearing, they just edited it down and never really played it anyway (cos its Kayne)

In 1991 when 'I Wanna Sex You Up' by Colour Me Badd went to no. 1 in the UK. Quite why it managed it I shall never know. Thing is back in 1991 kids were genuinely shocked if there was a song with the word "sex" in the title. Kids back in 1991 laughed in a "you can't say that" kinda away when people said they wanted to "do it". We were so much more naive compared to the kids of today.

It's a bit like having the F-word in the title of a song at the moment. I do get the impression that they might not be selling so much otherwize.
