February 6, 201115 yr Made up for Jessie, Enrique and Rihanna ('S&M'). :D Hopefully Next Week - -Jessie will stay at #1 -Enrique Top 3 (Not going to happen though... :() -'S&M' Top 10 Disappointed at 'Cannibal' only charting at #22. Especially when she was at #11 in the mid-weeks... 'The Fame' is still selling pretty well! I wonder if in the next 2 weeks it'll get a boost due to the release of 'Born This Way'?
February 6, 201115 yr Savage Garden back in the UK singles chart! Long live 1998 :w00t: Teardrop is 1998, too :o Although (unfortunately) not quite as much of a radio staple as Truly Madly Deeply.
February 6, 201115 yr i wonder what has brought truly madly deeply back into the charts, im happy to see it as i liked alot of their material.
February 6, 201115 yr i wonder what has brought truly madly deeply back into the charts, im happy to see it as i liked alot of their material. Amazon has been selling them for 59p
February 6, 201115 yr Teardrop is 1998, too :o Although (unfortunately) not quite as much of a radio staple as Truly Madly Deeply. Sadly, it's a stunning piece of music. Amazon has been selling them for 59p iTunes even. I doubt Amazon selling anything cheaper would have much of an impact on the singles chart.
February 6, 201115 yr Sadly, it's a stunning piece of music. But too interesting for most commercial radio stations, who still flog the same songs that were being played to death on the radio back in 1998!! I do still hear it quite a bit on more "alternative" stations, mind, but it's a shame that the more wider genre stations don't treat it like the classic it is. Still, it's clearly not been forgotten as evidenced by its re-entry. It does just go to show how many classic tracks there were from 1998, though. iTunes lowers a whole batch of songs to 59p yet two of the small group of songs that actually benefit enough to re-enter the top 100 are both from 1998! And that's just scratching the surface of the number of memorable hits from that great year

And that's just scratching the surface of the number of memorable hits from that great year  This has really annoyed me about some radio stations too. I mean, the top 40 radio stations aren't too bad, because they don't play any old songs. But some of the ones that do play old songs, they choose mediocre ones, and it's the same ones each time. It just really frustrates me, because it gives the impression that they're classics, when they're not that good, and there's better songs from those years, but they're just not MOR enough. It's kind of disappointing, as it can encourage artists who want to be mainstream to tailor their songs specifically for radio. :( At least with the top 40 stations, if something sells well, they'll play it.
February 6, 201115 yr Don't get me started, I could go on for days  1998 is easily my favourite year for music, 1999 second. :D Ha! I have to admit I do *slightly* prefer 1997, but much love to 1998. Both had some amazing stuff coming from pretty much every genre, though, as evidenced by the actual variety (a foreign word these days!) in the charts at the time. 1999 was great, too, but a slight step down (mainly because R&B and indie wasn't as good as in 1997/98 IMO, though pop and dance remained strong) - still better than most years, though! This has really annoyed me about some radio stations too. I mean, the top 40 radio stations aren't too bad, because they don't play any old songs. To be honest, Radio 1 has a pretty good variety of old songs. I've heard some absolute forgotten stuff there that you'd never hear on most other stations. Although they seem to be allergic to anything pre-1997 for some reason. I mean, I don't really mind too much, but it would be nice to hear some even older songs! I guess they can't take the focus too much away from the newer songs though, hence why they limit the year span they have to play older songs. I agree with you though, and you just know they'll be playing the same songs from 2010 they are now in 2020!! Edited February 6, 201115 yr by superbossanova
February 6, 201115 yr 1999 was always my fave, but 1998 is good too. Anyway I hope to god that Kanye song doesn't go top 40 next week :/

I guess they can't take the focus too much away from the newer songs though, hence why they limit the year span they have to play older songs. Radio 1 is pretty decent actually, in terms of mainstream older songs. I was more referring to Heart FM, since they just seem to have like 3 songs from every year which they just repeat obsessively, and they're not even that good (bar a couple of exceptions). And the worst thing with Heart is how genre specific they are. My parents think all the hip hop songs from 2 years ago are "forgotten about". I tell them they aren't, and they're like "Oh, but I never hear any of them on Heart". I literally just want to facepalm whenever I have that conversation with someone. :( The 1997 thing isn't too bad actually (on a selfish, personal level ), because the earliest songs I can remember loving at the time, and that I remember getting to #1, and watching on Top of the Pops and everything were released in 1997/1998. :) I've obviously heard many songs from before then, but I wasn't alive/don't remember when they first came out.
February 6, 201115 yr 1999 was always my fave, but 1998 is good too. 2000 for me, although the 1997-2002 period will always remain special to me. 1992-6 was pretty great too, lots of euro stuff.
February 6, 201115 yr Teardrop is 1998, too :o Although (unfortunately) not quite as much of a radio staple as Truly Madly Deeply.Another 1998 track, I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith has also re-entered the singles chart, at #196. Teardrop is an excellent song but I can't recall that last time I heard it played on the radio. It's perhaps a little too old for Radio 1 but just too alternative for the Gold type stations, as well as Radio 2.
February 7, 201115 yr Anyone know where Aggro Santos album charted? To not make the Top 100 after only having a Top 10 single a few weeks back is quite shocking!
