I believe it was regarding The Prodigy (how convenient) and how they'd apparently done nothing in the charts since 1997 until 2009. I then pointed out that they had a top 5 single and 2 #1 albums and you semi-exploded at me for 'over-analysing a throwaway comment'.

That jerked your memory? Or was that someone else?

EDIT: This post looks a bit too serious, so I think I'll put a :kink: in here.

LOL, I just went trawling through my post history to find that supposed altercation and it wasn't that bad! I think I was quite pleasant that time, to be fair, considering.

You might be mixing it up with this one, where I was quite rude, though. I must have been peed off on this day for some reason, or just in a foul mood for nothing specific.

it was good until the last 50 seconds  better than The Time nonetheless

I think top 5/10 with 40-60k, although I wouldn't be surprised if it missed the top 10 and have a Rock that Body-esque run

A lot of people underestimating this, just like they did with The Time. Not A LOT of people have bought the album, so this could sell a lot. Really, I think this will be huge. It is The BEPs afterall.....

You mean the same Black Eyed Peas who lucked their way to #1 with The Time on the back of an X Factor performance and weak competition, when they had been out for four weeks before whilst only peaking at #6, and that was with a video already out and getting airplay? I don't begrudge them it, but The Time only took off after that, let's face it. Without that it would have likely only peaked at around #3. Stop acting like they're super massive this era when they're only having mediocre success. Even with the X Factor performance it hardly went to Meet Me Halfway levels, did it?

Nobody underpredicted The Time, anyway - like I said, it was lucky to get #1 at all, so anybody predicting top 5 was pretty much correct. And besides, a lot of people did predict #1.

The only reason Bad Romance got to #1 was because it was performed on X Factor. :kink:

Not necessarily, as it got to #1 again in January. Whose to say it couldn't have done that without the X Factor, eh? :P It's actually pretty much a fact that The Time only got to #1 because of the X Factor - it wasn't even top 5 on iTunes before the performance, and after the week of the performance it didn't get any higher than #3.

It's not the X Factor performance that's relevant, anyway. I just had to laugh at the delusion that BEPs are some mega band this era and everyone here is failing to realise that, when they've had an average-selling #1 single which was outsold quite comfortably by all the first 3 singles from The E.N.D., and an album that has struggled to get anywhere considering Elephunk, Monkey Business and The E.N.D. were ALL million sellers. So saying that people are underpredicting this song just because they expect it to only get top 10 is slightly baffling. It's pretty clear there's less interest in the BEPs this era than last.

I mean, even you as the biggest loon for them on Buzzjack could probably see they're not doing as well as expected this era, right?

Firstly, I think The Time could actually outsell Boom Boom Pow (in the UK).

Secondly, Meet Me Halfway stayed in the top 10 for almost 3 months, and got to #1 in November, but was still #3 in the charts in January 2010.

Thirdly, I didn't have as high expectations as you think. :D I'll try and dig out a few posts I made before and just after the album got released, if you want. The E.N.D. was one of the biggest albums in recent times, in terms of having 3 absolutely MASSIVE singles from it (even Imma Be got to #1 in the US, too). It's pretty difficult to beat that, imo.

Okay, here's a post I made shortly after listening to the album, and discussing with people what the 2nd single could be:

^ I also think Someday is extremely good (the track from the album I listen to most, apart from the single), but perhaps they need something more catchy, if you know what I mean. I dunno, but I think the reason Rock That Body underperformed was because it wasn't catchy enough. I think it's an incredible composition of music, but it's not the sort of tune that people can hear once on the radio, and want to listen to it repeatedly. They need to have another tune with another absolutely phenomenal hook like Meet Me Halfway did, or a song with an incredible beat like Boom Boom Pow to be in with a chance of another hit.

I'm struggling to think of anything en par with that from their album, but they could do the "remix an album track and release it as a single" trick, although that's usually something artists start doing on their 4th or 5th single from an album, not their 2nd.

It does make you wonder though, why did songs like OMG end up on Usher's album, or Check It Out end up on Nicki Minaj's album, or 3 Words on Cheryl's album?

So clearly, even back then, I was worried that they would only have one successful single from the album (a song that gets to #1 and sells half a million, IS successful imo). If Just Can't Get Enough is a hit, it will have exceeded my expectations, because a few months ago, I was suggesting they might have to remix one of their tracks to get another hit.

Also, X Factor actually hindered Meet Me Halfway's chart run, if anything.

Top 10 chart run without X Factor would've been something like 8-2-1-1-1-3-3-2-3-3-2-9 compared to 6-3-1-2-4-4-4-10-6-3-10.

It was not at all an average selling #1 single, it was in the Top 100 Downloads of All Time countdown that Radio 1 ran a few weeks ago based only on its 2010 sales and AFAIA its sales are pretty close to BBP's.

Also, 11-7-11-6-1-4-3-3-3-8-15-20 is in no way a bad chart run. (I know you didn't say it was but I'm just pointing it out :P)

Fair enough it was 'outsold quite comfortably' by the E.N.D. singles (although as I said I'm pretty sure it's not too far behind BBP) but considering one of them is one of the top 100 best selling singles of all time and another was also ridiculously huge, that's a bit of an unfair comparison. It was never going to sell *that* much. Well, it might have, but given how generally poorly it was received it was still pretty huge.

Up to this point at least (assuming JCGE can't turn it around), yes, The Beginning is an enormous flop for BEP (since Elephunk) standards. That can't really be defended.

And I fully acknowledge they're underperforming this era. Although I still think TT(DB) is their 5th highest selling single after their other 4 #1s? I'm not sure what their non-#1s sold. :P I'm just saying labelling TT(DB) as 'average selling' is a slight understatement

Surprisingly tolerable for a BEP song (IMO the first since IGF).

I'd say #2, though that depends on the competition.

I remember The Black Eyed Peas wanting its facebook fans to vote on which should be their next single release.. Personally this was my second choice , as 'Whenever' is far better. None the less it is a very good song and deserves a top 5 hit with it.!

Lucked? You mean performed it on X factor?? How is that luck? Going by that logic, every song that has ever reached #1 because of X factor was a fluke, which is stupid......

I'm not acting like their massive....and even if I was, I wouldn't stop.....!

MMH levels are huge. 775k? The Time was never going to sell thart, but it's currently at 530k which is close top Boom Boom Pow.

530k single, 300k album isn't mediocre. Maybe for their standards, but it's in no way mediocre.

A lot of people were saying The Time would flop, so yes, they underpredicted it.

I hope Just Can't Get Enough is huge now.....

Guys, lighten up! Put on some New Kids on the Block (or other American boyband of ur choice).

What do you mean by this?

Who are New Kids on the Block? Some crappy, bland American boyband with generic tendencies?

Um, excuse me?!

I just can't get enough of Just Can't Get Enough.

I thought I read somewhere that 'Love you Long Time' was the next single :/ Ah well, I love both :)

That was a rumour for a little while...

5-10 and 40-60k. Great song!
Hopefully No1. And should sell about 40-60k in one weak. And could sell consistently for a few weaks.
