February 14, 201114 yr You may have your own things that trigger you to like the song, i have mine. That is the hook.
February 14, 201114 yr Like you said, it was two years ago! I love me some good pop track (Neon Hitch - the beat in chorus is incredible, Lauren Taveras - the chorus is INSANE! <3 Ojnoj was good too - loved the singer's voice), just don't give me every piece of hook-less 3-minute howling any average girl group records (Underwear, The Last Time - to the least extent). Don't even get me started on that Rebound 'group'. They are the definition of the word 'cheesy'. I really thought you were joking about Lauren tbh, it was Justina Bieber all over. It was sent by PRoJ and I didn't vote for it, so you know soemthing's up :kink: I don't see how Underwear and the last time were hookless, though :cheer: at being not so terrible :kink: Totally agreed on Rebound though, vile :puke2: But I LOVED your song
February 14, 201114 yr The most hookless song in this competition for me, ironically, was Eledan's entry! (imo of course :P) Don't ask me how it goes now, I have no idea. There were certainly worse songs, but the bad ones tend to stick out in your mind more than the average ones.
February 14, 201114 yr You may have your own things that trigger you to like the song, i have mine. That is the hook. No, the hook's the catchy bit that tends to root itself firmly in your head regardless of your feelings towards the track. Like in the Sugababes classic Round Round, the hook is 'Round Round baby round round' or in AYN 'Can we bring yesterday back around, coz i know how i feel about you now'
February 14, 201114 yr It WAS gradual. Whereas i was up in charts' ass COMPLETELY, 2008 showed some signs of indie (Santigold, Camille, Bloc Party, Foals, Deerhunter, etc.). 2009 - Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Slow Club, Micachu, jj, Crystal Castles, etc. 2010 - practically everything in my YE chart was somewhat 'indie'. And ESC. Which is the token for each year! You can't JUST change your music taste in one week, it'd be strange. Imagine Phil in convulsions listening to Deerhunter, Destroyer or Women all of a sudden tomorrow.  You're right, 2008 was brilliant for indie in the charts - I liked most of that stuff too. And that's fair enough, I just don't really understand your ongoing affinity to Eurovision, seeing as a bulk of the entries are the cheesy pop that you so despise and the like that are sent to BJSC  Sheelah could easily have been a Eurovision entry (in fact it's 3 minutes long, it's probably a MF reject!). Same with most of the songs in the top twenty this month.

Like in the Sugababes classic Round Round, the hook is 'Round Round baby round round' or in AYN 'Can we bring yesterday back around, coz i know how i feel about you now' Still, even if it's true, there are different hooks for each person.
February 14, 201114 yr No, the hook's the catchy bit that tends to root itself firmly in your head regardless of your feelings towards the track. What if it doesn't root itself firmly in your head? Even if you listen to it a couple of times? Are you saying that's impossible... My taste in music has changed an awful lot in the last 2 years. Although before I joined buzzjack I was the kind of person who only ever listened to what was on the radio. BJSC helped me discover so many songs I'd never have discovered otherwise (NSC too) and I can definitely say my musical knowledge and taste in music would be much poorer and more undefined if I had never joined.
February 14, 201114 yr Still, even if it's true, there are different hooks for each person. Not really in the defining sense. A hook is a hook is a hook - music technology became a subject primarily to define what is and what isn't in terms of the structure of a particular harmony or a chord progression, or pacing or beat. Hooks may work better for different people but they're still undeniably hooks.

Same with most of the songs in the top twenty this month. The only somewhat 'cheesy pop' from last year's final was probably UK Josh, That Sounds Good To Me France Jessy Matador; Alllez Olla Olé Moldova Sunstroke Project & Olia Tira; Run Away Albania Juliana Pasha; It's All About You Iceland Hera Björk; Je Ne Sais Quoi Armenia Eva Rivas; Apricot Stone :puke: Denmark Chanée & N'evergreen; In A Moment Like This :puke: Romania Paula Seling & Ovi; Playing With Fire and i wasn't crazy over any of those bar Hera. ESC is so amazing. Every European nation selects its best (sometimes not really lol) song to be represented by in the contest. The song that contains the spirit of the country. A country in a form of a song. You feel so close to all the Europe! So much fun, happiness and unification in just one night. I so wish to finally see the contest from inside! Why do YOU love Eurovision yourself?

Why do YOU love Eurovision yourself? Mainly, because of the music :cheer: Although I agree with you about the whole European closeness thing, not so much about the other points. I don't feel like Haba Haba is a genuine representation of Norwegian culture for example, although indeed many countries do often send something that in some way shows their heritage. But similarly, with BJSC, each person is sending a song that represents their music taste, opinions and expression so for people to constantly criticise their choices of entries (not just once or twice, but almost every month) does begin to feel like a personal insult  These issues come around in the rates too with certain people (not you btw) leaving me 'nice but awful music taste' comments - I'm constantly made to feel inferior on this forum due to what I listen to, and I've experienced this in another way my whole life due to my hair colour, so I don't exactly appreciate it! What is 'awful' anyway? One man's junk is another man's treasure!
February 14, 201114 yr This ginger hate in the UK is ridiculous. Truly. There IS one phrase that 'mock' gingers in here (came from a cartoon lolz) but only little children use it, very rarely now too. It's like being punished because you were born with 10 fingers. :/ WHY? lol

It's like being punished because you were born with 10 fingers. :/ WHY? lol I don't know :( Although admittedly I haven't had one 'ginger' insult in the last 5 months here in Wales/North West England. Maybe this prejudice is more prevalent in the south of England because I'd get insulted at least three times a day beforehand! I'm living with two Spaniards at the moment and they can't understand it either - they say it's very rare to see it in Spain, but nobody would ever make fun of it - they didn't even know the term/meaning 'ginger' or indeed any sort of slang for redheads!

I f***ing hated Bleeding Love and still do, yet the hook gets stuck in my head. Ranga is the Australian term of choice. There was a "Hug a Ranga" Day on the year planner the Rod Frogs [some form of Christianity type scouts thingy down under] gave out when i was in Aus.
February 14, 201114 yr You're all lucky that I've only sent Rebound once, I considered them with a different song a couple of contests ago :P But I went for them in the end as it was the only 'unknown' song I was really liking around that time (along with 'The Last Time' which I presumed had already been taken), so I just sent it as the deadline got closer. Will make more effort next time But to people you actually enjoyed 'Psycho', like myself - :D

February 14, 201114 yr Oh no! :( Totally got confused between the deadline for this and the GayRate in the Lounge. Thought it was open til Wednesday! I was gone for the weekend. Oh well, not a bad result I guess. Decent winner, much better than their prevous entry. I even had my top 15 ordered before I went, I just wanted to let it settle a bit. :( This is how I'd have voted if anyone's interested: 18 Yuxhaaq // Ophelie Winter - Affection 15 Zechonia // Amy Studt - My Paper Made Man 13 Kopecka // Ro Daneishi - Michelle 12 Persephonia // Beth Ditto - I Wrote The Book 11 United States Of Jack // Fefe Dobson - Stuttering 10 Torchwood // Le Kid - Mr Brightside 09 B.a.N.G // Dev - Monster 08 Espen // Fight Facilities - Crave You 07 FSR Rontvia // Sheelah - The Last Time 06 Dalisska // Chasing Pluto - Come On 05 Isconia // Oh Land - Sun of a Gun 04 Kingdom Of Shadow // MNDR - Fade To Black 03 Hendinia // Jessie & The Toy Boys - Like You Better 02 UnoShake // Florrie - Call Of The Wild 01 N-Lazone // Gramophonedzie - Out Of My Head
February 14, 201114 yr :o :o I missed out on once in a lifetime points from Quotosibb :drama: Haha, I know! I was surprised at how good it was, "Psycho" did nothing for me. You didn't need them though! Gutted I missed voting, I've never missed a vot since VI! :(

Gutted I missed voting, I've never missed a vot since VI! :( I love it! It was a massive risk to send one of my former winners again as finishing anywhere other than top three would have been a bit embarrassing, but I genuinely believe that it's a stronger song so I thought it was worth a shot. Indeed, I was surprised to see you not voting, glad to see it wasn't on purpose though!
