Looking at my hundred most listened to tracks, Numb/Encore () and Like Toy Soldiers () are there. :D

I think that's it though. I can't even remember half of those songs! :o That said, I don't even know all the songs in this week's top 40, so I shouldn't be too hard on myself.

Others that I've listened to recently are Call on Me (I listen to this a LOT), What You Waiting For?, I Believe in You, Unwritten and If There's Any Justice!

Some fantastic songs in there!!!

I want to know how on earth Raghav was ever in a position to get 2 top 10 hits.

Well, it was much easier to get top 10 in those days *shrug*

The most random top 10 hit from this chart was surely Hanson (who got to #10) - you wouldn't think they had a top 10 hit as recently as 2005 when most people associate them as a mere memory of 1997!

I remember all of them except #53 (which doesn't even ring a bell artist-wise) but then I did use to watch the music channels like a hawk back then.

Some really terrible stuff here, though... crappy Busted-wannabes, Fierce Girl, Uniting Nations, Good Charlotte, Destiny's Child (love them but this song was TERRIBLE, along with most of that album), and the dreaded Elvis re-releases!!

My faves:

05.Brian McFadden & Delta Goodrem - Almost Here

06.Doves - Black and White Town

08.Ashanti - Only U

09.The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize

10.Ciara feat. Petey Pablo - Goodies

12.Daniel Bedingfield - Wrap My Words Around You

15.Xzibit - Hey Now (Mean Muggin')

17.Lucie Silvas - Breathe In

Oh, dear, 'Numb/Encore'. That has been in the Top 20 for weeks (checked the chart run last year). Ridiculous. =/

I know, such a shame. :( Such an iconic song of this time for me. I wasn't interested in chart statistics at the time, so I didn't know it's peak, chart run, etc, but it was a massive part of my life then. It was as popular as a #1 based on my life.

The charts were very odd at this time, trust me. Sales were pitifully low and there were regularly about half of a dozen new entries in the top 10 every week, fanbase acts thrived, and there were some bizarre top 10 hits.

Numb/Encore probably could have peaked higher if it wasn't for that fact - it's hard to climb when there's loads of new entries entering above you every week.

Uniting Nations kinda suffered from that, too - they only peaked at #8 I think but it was a lot more popular than the peak suggests...

Brilliant year for dance music

An awful year for music, but having said that, some amazing dance songs like "Galvanise", "Call On Me", "The Weekend", "Shine", "Out of Touch" were out, as well as "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" from what was a great band (not so much anymore). It must of been weird to have 2 songs with Solider(s) in the title in the top 5.

A bit of a silly request but do any of you guys know the rest of the chart that week? I am interested in key names and new entries.

Further more here is my 10p worth:

01.U2 - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own - Nah

02.Elvis Presley - Wooden Heart {2005} - That got on my tits! How dare he claim the 1000th number one?

03.Eminem - Like Toy Soldiers - bast*rdised sample of a classic song.

04.Destiny's Child/Ti/Lil Wayne - Soldier - Ewwwww. That whole album is terrible bar "Lose my Breath" and "Girl". Luckily I bought it for about £1.09 used on Amazon in a slipcase with "Survivor".

05.Brian McFadden & Delta Goodrem - Almost Here - Decent ballad.

06.Doves - Black and White Town - Decent.

07.Raghav - Angel Eyes - Ewwwwwww

08.Ashanti - Only U - I quite like this :)

09.The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize - Weird video, but decent tune.

10.Ciara feat. Petey Pablo - Goodies - Otherwise known as the "Car Alarm Song" in my house.

11.The Noise Next Door - Calendar Girl - Busted wannabees with a cheap sounding song.

12.Daniel Bedingfield - Wrap My Words Around You - Drivel.

13.Uniting Nations - Out of Touch - Classic :)

14.Jay-Z & Linkin Park - Numb / Encore - Not too fond of it.

15.Xzibit - Hey Now (Mean Muggin' - Gangsta rap $h!t.

16.Athlete - Wires - Liked it back then, been bored to tears of it now.

17.Lucie Silvas - Breathe In - Great song. Very decent mid-tempo guitar ballad. Where is she now?

18.Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams - No ta.

19.Bloc Party - So Here We Are/Positive Tension - Don't know

20.Elvis Presley - Are You Lonesome Tonight? {2005} - NO.

21.Good Charlotte - I Just Wanna Live - The guy who I was with (I had a four yr relationship with him) had a sister who was obsessed with these bands, and to be honest I did like this!

22.Freefaller - Do This! Do That! - Crap, but one of them was quite sexy.

23.The Kills - The Good Ones - Don't know

24.Lovefreekz - Shine - Don't know

25.The Duke Spirit - Lion Rip - Don't know

26.One World Project - Grief Never Grows Old - Ewwwww. I know it was for a good cause, but my that was a granny song.

27.Elvis Presley - It's Now Or Never {2005} - An Elvis song I can abide.

28.Ashlee Simpson - La La - Where are the Simpsons Sisters now? Are they in a briotherl selling themselves for $40 where they belong? Annoying.

29.Hanson - Penny And Me - This was surpsingly good :)

30.Scissor Sisters - Filthy/Gorgeous - LOVE!!!

31.Elvis Presley - One Night/I Got Stung {2005} - NO!

32.Elvis Presley - A Fool Such As I/I Need Your Love Tonight {2005} - NO!

33.Duran Duran - What Happens Tomorrow - Meh

34.Rooster - Staring At The Sun - My fav song in this chart. Underrated band and a very meaningful ballad.

35.Lemar - If There's Any Justice - Boring.

36.The Beautiful South - This Will Be Our Year - Don't know.

37.Elvis Presley - Jailhouse Rock {2005} - Like :)

38.Steve Brookstein - Against All Odds - EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

39.Dana Rayne - Object Of My Desire - Don't know.

40.Cam'ron Featuring Mona Lisa - Girls - More rap shoite.

42.Stonebridge feat. Therese - Take Me Away - Boring.

45.Kylie Minogue - I Believe In You - I like this :)

48.Ronan Keating feat. Yusuf - Father and Son - Very good cover.

50.The Killers - Somebody Told Me {2005} - CLASSIC!

54.Darius - Live Twice - Very meaningful ballad written about the passing of his father.

62.Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast {2005} - My Dad and I each bought a copy to make this the 1000th number 1.

63.Girls Aloud - I'll Stand By You - Love this :)

71.Phixx - Strange Love - Underrated song by a very decent boyband.

Faves and comments on this top 75. I hated early 2005 for chart music for the most part by the way - truly awful, mainly because as superbossanova said, it was driven by one week wonder fanbase buys and completely random minor hits by nobodies;

03.Eminem - Like Toy Soldiers Actually one of my favourite songs of his

05.Brian McFadden & Delta Goodrem - Almost Here Despite despising McFadden, they do work well together musically - I've liked all of their duets - this was simple yet a really nice ballad, gutted that an Elvis re-issue kept it from peaking at #2 :( Definitely the last time we'll ever see Delta in the UK top 5 :snif:

13.Uniting Nations - Out of Touch

14.Jay-Z & Linkin Park - Numb / Encore

17.Lucie Silvas - Breathe In

24.Lovefreekz - Shine

28.Ashlee Simpson - La La -

33.Duran Duran - What Happens Tomorrow

39.Dana Rayne - Object Of My Desire This was most definitely a random top ten hit, cheesy Eurodance by an absolute nobody, and fondly remembered by basically nobody

41.Soul Central feat. Kathy Brown - Strings Of Life (Stronger On My Own)

42.Stonebridge feat. Therese - Take Me Away

44.Motiv 8 - Riding On The Wings Was this the peak for this song? Terrible if so, I loved it!

45.Kylie Minogue - I Believe In You

48.Ronan Keating feat. Yusuf - Father and Son

56.Commander Tom - Attention! Actually really liked this, forgot it existed!

58.Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten

63.Girls Aloud - I'll Stand By You

66.Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For?

73.Michael Gray - The Weekend

75.House Of Pain - Jump Around {2004} Was this re-released physically? Must have been :o

The Dana Rayne song was very weird - it sounded an awful lot like the XTM song from 2003 and even the video was similar (in fact I'm sure the same animated guy was in both :/)... were the two related somehow? (apart from by the fact that I hated both!)

I remember it was on The Box loads back then, though, so I wasn't *too* surprised it was a hit - though you're right it is totally random looking back!

Edited by superbossanova

^ I LOVE that song.

And the video is...interesting!!

I don't remember it from back then though. :( Which is a shame, because there's a load of 2005 I hear all the time which I HATE, and then there's some really good ones which nobody cares about anymore. :(

I agree with you, I was about to make the same comparison. Difference being that I liked it (although not enough to buy it) but I LOVED the XTM song, which I bought half way through it's completely bizarre 3 months yo-yoing between 8-12 chart run, although probably because at heart it was a Eurovision winner

But indeed, I'm surprised they didn't claim for damages, I read somewhere that she was from the US, which seems like an odd breeding ground for what seems like a cheap Eurocheese anthem.

I don't think I had anything but the main 4 channels in 2005 so I never saw or heard it anywhere, it felt like it just appeared in the top ten one week  Even so, even if The Box hammered that type of song now, with no radio support it would get nowhere.

Is it just me or was this also a really random top 10 hit (later in 2005)?

I wasn't really following the charts at the time.

I wasn't really following the charts at the time.

I was actually expecting that one to be bigger! At one point I thought it would go top 3 as looped 80's house reworkings were very much the in thing at the time.

01.U2 - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own

03.Eminem - Like Toy Soldiers

04.Destiny's Child/Ti/Lil Wayne - Soldier  easily their worst

05.Brian McFadden & Delta Goodrem - Almost Here  loved this, was gutted it didn't get to #01

08.Ashanti - Only U

10.Ciara feat. Petey Pablo - Goodies

11.The Noise Next Door - Calendar Girl  I despised this band!

13.Uniting Nations - Out of Touch

15.Xzibit - Hey Now (Mean Muggin' wasn't this Keri Hilson's first UK appearance

16.Athlete - Wires  I hated this with a passion was absolutely awful

17.Lucie Silvas - Breathe In  would love her to come back, she had a great set of 4 singles

18.Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams  their best

21.Good Charlotte - I Just Wanna Live

22.Freefaller - Do This! Do That! what happend to them?

24.Lovefreekz - Shine  I remember this being totally overrated on hit40uk at the time and they kept saying it was going to be huge ...

28.Ashlee Simpson - La La -

29.Hanson - Penny And Me :puke2: I can't bare this song at all, they play it at Morrisons

30.Scissor Sisters - Filthy/Gorgeous

35.Lemar - If There's Any Justice

39.Dana Rayne - Object Of My Desire  this was amazing, when I was dj'ing I often played it and it always got people up

OBJECT OF MY DESIRE!!!!!

Absolutely loved it. As said, played a lot on The Box and I was really pleased when it went top 10, even though it only sold something tiny like a few thousand copies. Extremely obscure these days (can't find the proper version on iTunes or Spotify, only remixes) but I listened to loads of that stuff at the time. Eyeopener's 'Hungry Eyes' a few months earlier was also a favourite, and obviously XTM I adored too :D

Other than the odd great, a pretty dull chart at one of music's lowest points ever, downloads still weren't included (and weren't as popular anyway) so it's one of the last ever 100% physical charts.
