Yeah i read this a while back, Well Well Well was an awful choice of lead single but the album still went top 10

People are comparing her to Adele but MYFML was played to death the whole of the winter thanks to the x factor and within a month after it finished she released her new album, so she had alot more publicity than Duffy.

I agree that it sounds like a strop and a management ploy to get people to buy the records or she might retire but why doesnt she just release a new song (that is actually good!) surely there must be one on the album

I keep saying this but I'll have another go - '21' has smashed it just about all over the World so not sure it's a massively valid theory. I still maintain that her November 2010 Jools Holland appearance was the main catalyst for what's come since. If Adele had appeared on there and sung Whale Whale Whale she would have bombed, no matter how the X factor may have helped in getting her name back out there. Not all about publicity, a lot of it is to do with doing stuff that genuinely moves/stuns ppl.

PS Duffy IIRC got 2 songs on her return to Jools - Adele got one. But what a song/performance it is!

Oh how terrible. Now I wonder who can take her place of dodgy Lulu tribute act part 2...??

I think a lot of it's to do with Adele DRASTICALLY improving from her debut album (it really shows), and Duffy going the opposite way although I still really liked 'Well, Well, Well' and one other song I heard from the album.

There was practically zero publicity or buzz for Duffy's second album, given that it's hardly surprising it bombed regardless of what she released...

Reminds me of Dido's last album-not a hint of publicity and it pretty much bombed. That and the fact that on both albums there aren't really any potential 'singles' that could turn it around regardless of how good the albums themselves are.
It's duffy fault really. She changed the direction of her album and her career. Sacking your manager can lead to not good things.
She's certainly not had the comeback success I expected. I knew she wouldnt be as big as rockferry, but she has completely flopped. I think the first single was a poor comeback song but saying that, I listened to the clips on itunes of the album tracks and nothing really stood out. Its a shame if she has quit although I dont believe much what the mirror prints.
According to the Metro today, Duffy herself has said that she's only taking a break. Which is probably the sensible thing to do after a disaster like this.

She had a break after the first album, its not like she rushed straight onto the second?

It's true. There was almost three year gap between the release of Rockferry and Endlessly. Wasn't that a long break

But surely if she rushes into something now, its gonna flop just as badly? She needs to take her time and at least she doesn't have the pressure of following a massive album this time. Do you really think she'd stand a chance of being successful is she recorded and released new material by the end of the year?

I just generally do not see a long future for Duffy full stop. I've always thought that. She might continually release albums but whether they are gonna sell millions is entirely debateable. I for one do not think they will.

Nor do I but I'm still a fan and prefer quality over sales any day. Not many of my favourite artists still sell by bucketloads but as long as I enjoy their music it does not matter to me.

She is the new Natalie Imbruglia, long gaps between each album and loss of success :o

I am the same. Sales don't matter. It's just they do for record labels as they are losing money. And i bet they have lost a fair bit from her due to this era flopping.
