I think the reason The King of Limbs didn't make the chart is because it's only available to buy on Radiohead's website, which isn't registered with the Chart Company. The same thing happened with their 'Harry Patch' single, which sold enough to go top 10, but was only on sale on their site.

ADELE - AN ALL TIME UK CHART RECORD

Adele has 2 Top 5 Hits in the W/E 26th February UK Singles & Albums Charts.

She is only the 4th Act to achieve it, in the same Week. She also becomes the 1st

Female, (any Genre/Type of Act), to achieve it.

She is the first living Act to achieve the Feat since The Beatles, in January 1964.

She also becomes the first Act since February 1981 to manage it.

John Lennon achieved it then - due to the rise in his Sales, due to

his Death.

NOTE - She is also at No.1 in the Singles & Albums Charts - as well

as having another Top 5 Hit in them. She becomes only the 3rd Act

to manage that - The Beatles, & John Lennon being the only others.

(With Lennon in both of those Acts, of course).

The other 3 Acts (2 Top 5 Singles & Albums in the same Week):,

THE SHADOWS

W/E 31st January 1963

SINGLES

No.2 - 'The Next Time/Bachelor Boy' (With Cliff Richard)

No.4 - 'Dance On!'

ALBUMS

No.3 - 'Out Of The Shadows'

THE BEATLES

W/E 12th December 1963 - W/E 16th January 1964 (6 Weeks)

SINGLES

'I Want To Hold Your Hand' - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2

'She Loves You' - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 5

ALBUMS

'With The Beatles' - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1

'Please Please Me' - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2

JOHN LENNON

W/E 7th February 1981

SINGLES

No.1 - 'Woman'

No.4 - 'Imagine'

No.1 - 'Double Fantasy' (With Yoko Ono)

No.5 - 'Imagine'

Thanks for that zeuss. Even allowing for the way downloads have changed the market, that's still an impressive achievement, particularly as one of the albums is three years old.

You seem to have forgotten to edit in the positions for Glee's singles and Tinie/Plan B's albums. Just sayin'

Very good read as always :D

They've been added in now. It was just a way of proving that it is written before the chart show :P

And there was me patting myself on the back for minimising the amount I'd have to change if I guessed the top three wrong

Zeus, the MW sales report says that Make You Feel My Love has the record for the most changes in direction in a top 40 run (or in other words the most 'erratic' top 40 run). Can you confirm this?

Bray - Alan Jones was not refering to the Top 40, as regards 'Make You Feel My Love' - he was

counting the entire Top 75. However - I get a different result than him. I can't get 13 'changes

in direction' for it.

Alan Jones says that 'Make You Feel My Love' has changed direction, (climbed), 13 times since it re-entered

at No.4, 21 Weeks ago. However - I can 'only' get 11 such climbs for it, & I've checked over & over.

Note - both I & Alan count the Entry Position as a Climb, IF it is also the Peak Position. (Assuming that Alan

counts the Entry Position, too).

OR - is he counting when it falls/drops as a 'change in direction', too? Does anyone get 13 'changes' for it,

counting its rises and falls?

Alan says:,

"Adele’s phenomenal achievements on the singles and albums charts this week are discussed more fully in our album analysis piece. Meanwhile, her 2008 single Make You Feel My Love rallies again, climbing 25-24 (15,518 sales). It’s the 13th time it has changed direction since it re-entered the chart 21 weeks ago – a record."

And, here are its Chart Positions, for the past 21 Weeks:,

W/E 9th October 2010 - 4-11-20-17-27-19-9-12-9-21-31-26-33-31-27-7-19-15-23-25-24

You DO get 13 Top 75 Climbs if you count its 2 previous Chart Entries, too:,

W/E 1st November 2008 - 63-26-29-45-74

W/E 11th September 2010 - 24-44

13 changes.

It can't be the whole top 75 surely? Sex On Fire changed 18 times before dropping out of the top 75 in its initial run (and it changed 13 times in the top 40, so if he did mean the top 40 as I suspect he did Adele only has a tied record at best, although she'll be ahead of KOL after this week almost certainly)

Suedehead2 & Bray - Thanks for clarifying how Alan Jones came up with

13 Top 40 'Changes in direction', for Adele's 'Make You Feel My Love'.

Once I realised how he's calculated, I decided to check for myself.

Alan is wrong - Adele does NOT hold the Top 40 record, for such

rises & falls, with the same Hit - in one Chart Run. (The Adele Single

is on its 3rd Chart Run).

(If you Guys would check my 'findings' - Thanks).

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

1) He'll Have To Go - Jim Reeves (1960)

Like the Adele Single, (so far), this Jim Reeves Hit also

'Changed direction' 13 times in its Top 40 'Run'. In its 2nd

Top 40 'Run', to be precise. It had previously spent a Week

in the Top 40, (No.36), in the W/E 26th March 1960 Chart.

W/E 9th April 1960

31-16-22-14-17-16-18-18-14-17-22-12-12-20-22

22-27-25-26-30-30-36-36-30-30-36

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

2) A Scottish Soldier - Andy Stewart (1961)

This Hit spent 40 Weeks in the Top 50 - 36 of them in the

Top 40. (36 consecutive Top 40 Weeks - without getting

higher than No.19).

I get 17 Top 40 'Changes in direction' for this Single:,

W/E 21st January 1961 (Top 40 Entry Date)

21-19-26-27-26-28-29-29-26-34-32-27-34-39-31-26-25-32

29-29-34-37-29-29-30-31-31-32-29-19-24-26-24-25-27-28

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

3) Stranger On The Shore - Mr. Acker Bilk (1961)

It entered the Top 40 more than once, in its Top 50 Chart Run,

but, I get 22 Top 40 'Changes in direction' for it, in its 1st Top 40

'Run':,

W/E 2nd December 1961

32-16-14-6-6-8-2-2-2-5-8-7-12-11-13-8-8-7-6-7-13-12-10-15-13-12-11-12

11-11-9-9-17-19-18-20-19-18-22-23-27-30-32-31-38

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

4) I Love You Because - Jim Reeves (1964)

I get 17 Top 40 'Changes in direction' for this one.

W/E 29th February 1964 (Top 40 Entry Date)

26-21-14-9-5-5-7-5-6-6-10-8-10-12-13-12-15-14-16-23-25-29-23-26

19-16-14-12-14-11-14-17-19-26-39-37-39

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

5) Sex On Fire - Kings Of Leon (2008)

I get 13 Top 40 'Changes in direction' for this Hit.

W/E 20th September 2008

1-1-1-2-2-4-4-5-11-13-13-17-14-15-21-12-11-12-14-19-18-23

Adele has got to stick around a bit longer then  She may see another change in direction this week but she's still some way off the record.
3) Sex On Fire - Kings Of Leon (2008)

I get 14 Top 40 'Changes in direction' for this Hit.

W/E 20th September 2008

1-1-1-2-2-4-4-5-11-13-13-17-14-15-21-12-11-12-14-19-18-23-19-14-16-22-23-29-31-27-30-29-37-40-39

I only get 13 for this (bolded).

Anyway, I see Alan Jones didn't quite do the research then, Adele is some way off the record. She'll make it to 14 this week as Suedehead said but I think it's coming towards the end of its chart run now. Although it's still top 30 on iTunes.

Bray - I get 14 'Changes in direction' for 'Sex On Fire', because I'm counting

its drop from 1 to 2, as one - you aren't. But, to me, if you are at No.1, & you

drop to No.2, you have moved 'Down' - a 'Change in direction'.

I've added 'He'll Have To Go' - Jim Reeves, (1960), &

'A Scottish Soldier' - Andy Stewart, (1961), to my Post,

regarding Top 40 Hits with the most 'Changes in direction'.

But that's inconsistent with MYFML, as the first change is counted as when it climbed from 20 to 17.

I wouldn't count being a new or re-entry and non-moving as separate 'directions', a change in direction is just whenever a song moves up when it had previously been going down or vice versa.

Edited by Bray

Bray - I see what you mean. I will give 'Sex On Fire' 13 'Changes in direction'

- as you have. (I've corrected my previous Post).
