Ok can people now STOP with the NO MAJOR PROMOTION thing? It is getting ridiculous.

Nowadays 90% of the music sells on HYPE and AIRPLAY, 'Born this way' has been the most hyped song ever as long as I can remember, and it has already got a massive radio support. Yes, she has no video to play on some second rated video channels yet, but she has MASSIVE hype and huge airplay, and she happened to perform it at the Grammys too (with a massive coverage about her performance). That should be enough to keep her in the top 3 by now, if it wasn't underperforming. I don't even get how people can discuss it...

Why don't you give it some time before judging! At least, wait till video effect kicks in and then call it a flop!

Oh COME ON, don't pretend to be a fool ! We are in the 21st century, performing on 'This morning' or ion the 'Alan Carr Show' isn't what major promotion is nowadays.

Major promition = big hype + big airplay + media coverage. GaGa has the best promotion she could get at the mo.

I like your talk

The Grammy performace was all over the media in the UK, you dont need to live in the USA to know about it lol

I was only answering to Bray who tried to make us believe that GaGa had no major promotion for that song yet, when it obviously had everything that matters : HYPE and AIRPLAY.

And to clarify my position, I am no GaGa hater. 'Born this way' is a good song, and I wouldn't mind having it at the top. But for MONTHS her little monsters have been stuck on repeat about how HUUUUGE her comeback would be, so HUGE that the planet would litteraly EXPLODES... So now it feels kinda good to see it underperforming and being only a pop comeback among others, and that other people like Adele are owning the year so far ^_^

I'm not attacking but really don't get all this argument! If this song was number 1 in the first week will you had the same opinion?

Hehe I love how you don't say a word about my whole argument about what major promotion is nowadays. At least you're not denying it now, but only avoiding it. ^_^

Okay, if you want me to talk about your argument which had nothing to do with the original argument anyway, I will.

The Grammys = NOT major promotion. Not in the UK. Nobody watches it. Nobody talks about it. Nobody cares.

Radio play IS major promotion, I'll give you that, but a song can't get by on just radio airplay, it needs TV airplay as well, which GaGa has not had a chance to get yet as her video isn't out.

Hype doesn't sell a song in massive numbers past about a week. It's passed a week, the hype is fading, it's obviously going to drop. Whe the hype WAS fully affecting it, it WAS absolutely massive - 130k in its first week as I keep pointing out to you. How that can be construed as underperforming in any way I simply don't understand.

Are you happy now?

The Grammy performance and Egg stunt was all over the UK media, like i said earlier you dont have to be american to know about the Grammys

and as previously stated it was Gagas monsters downloading a song they had never heard b4 that got it to where it got to.

Yes.

Yes.

At least you know what you are defending  So what did you expect from Born This Way?

Gaga is *not* flopping. In the UK she isn't doing as well as many expected (although she would have with a full first week of sales), but the song is huge all over the world. It sold 1M in 5 days, for goodness sake, it can't be considered unpopular!!

If you think after all the records the song has broken, you can't say she is overperforming. She debuted at #1 on the United World Chart with only 3 days of sales and hardly any airplay at all in those 3 days. THAT is amazing.

The song will climb with the video. Actually, I should say, it will climb with the videoS, as there are to be two of them!! One will be a stripped back version!! :)

The Grammys cannot be considered serious promotion. I was off school at the time and I heard it discussed on Loose Women and that's about it. Apart from that, she hasn't been promoted at all.

The point is, it didnt get to number 1 (yet anyway, before the monsters say it will)

The hype surrounding it made people believe and expect it to go to number 1.

No-one expected the song to #1 on 34 hours of sales. If she had the full week, she'd have beaten Adele easily.

Fact: from Friday to Friday sold 130k! Enough to get her to number 1! Wrong release date if you like!

I think that must be the only reason anyone thinks this has flopped, because some people's expectations are far too high. There's a difference between a song flopping and a song doing less well than excpected. I could 'expect', say, The Wanted's Comic Relief single to open with 500,000 sales. Then if it opened up with 150,000 sales it wouldn't come close to my expectations but it still doesn't come close to being a flop. I could see these sorts of arguments from right back before BTW premiered and loads of people predicting it to be impossibly huge, I thought they'd end up calling it a flop when it fails to live up to impossible expectations. -_-

I'm willing to be proven wrong if, after the video release, it continues to drop, like Britney's Hold It Against Me which I didn't consider underperforming until the video came and it failed to even go back into the top twenty. But for now its success thus far has been absolutely massive and it's both completely wrong (based on evidence so far) and also far too early to call it a flop.

Huge all over the world??

It got to number 1 in 18 countries, how many countries are there in the world?? Few more then 18 i think. Rianna Katy P etc go to number 1 in that amount of countries.

I never called it a flop. I said it was underpforming. All the way down to #10 on Itunes already, but #4 in the Airplay Chart (and probably higher as we speak).

And to quote Darren, "in the UK she isn't doing as well as many expected". That's basically what I said, thanks for explaining what "underperforming" means.

Yes you, sorry :) Thanks!

BTW, I reckon 'Ain't Nobody' has sold something like 18-19k without (yet) going T75...

Fact: from Friday to Friday sold 130k! Enough to get her to number 1! Wrong release date if you like!

Was a bit too big for her boots then in that case, she assumed with all the hype she created around the release of BTW that it would get to number 1 in two days. She failed!

Wow, it 'only' got to #1 in EIGHTEEN countries within less than 2 weeks of its premiere, what a huge FLOP

Born This Way is the only song ever to top *every* iTunes chart at the same time, including Japan aka the most xenophobic music market in the world. The Japanese chart never has more than a couple of songs by non-Japanese artists in it at any given time and non-Japanese #1s are an extremely infrequent occurrence but Born This Way was so huge that it got to #1 even there.
