February 23, 201114 yr So 'Born This Way' has charted in Germany. :o Didn't think it'd chart for another 2 weeks.
February 23, 201114 yr So 'Born This Way' has charted in Germany. :o Didn't think it'd chart for another 2 weeks. Why wouldn't it have been allowed to chart?
February 23, 201114 yr Thanks for posting the album chart Dre, interesting to see Roxette at the top, they didn't even make #1 in Sweden :o
February 23, 201114 yr I guess the record company allowed it to chart. ...and yet Britney Spears 'Hold It Against Me' is still yet to chart.
February 23, 201114 yr Why wouldn't it have been allowed to chart? Germany have some odd chart compiling rules and regulations. Iirc, a track selling purely on download sales doesn't qualify for the German singles chart unless the record company allow the track to chart. Personally, I think all download sales should count towards the German singles chart - and maybe eventually that'll be what happens. All other tracks in the German chart are selling on physical formats alone - hence why the top 10 every so often is so static with virtually no movement whatsoever.
February 23, 201114 yr Author Hurts still top 3 :D And WTF @ Natalia Kills?! Why WTF? It was top10 on their I-Tunes for a couple of weeks, was bound to be a top10 hit.

Actually most are selling on downloads & physicals. As soon as they're released physically, those sales are added with the digital sales. Few are selling on physicals alone, and fewer on downloads alone.
February 23, 201114 yr Author Thanks for posting the album chart Dre, interesting to see Roxette at the top, they didn't even make #1 in Sweden :o I guess I can post the top20 and new entries every week ;) Roxette topped the German and Swiss charts, and are #2 in Sweden and Austria. The single however has only cracked one top10, in Austria, currently #9.

Few are selling on physicals alone, and fewer on downloads alone. Thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't entirely sure if my explaination was acurate.
February 23, 201114 yr Author German chart rules are dumb overall. First the whole thing is based on sale revenue, which is ridiculous. Then they had the 9 week rule which got rid of songs once they left the top50 after 9 weeks - although it was extreme, kinda wish it was still around under a less strict way, the charts are uber boring these days. The re-entries had some weird rules too, can't remember exactly what it was but it had to do with sales percentage increase. Then there's the whole downloads debacle, the german charts need to get with the times and alow digitally exclusive tracks. Overall its one big mess.

Then there's the whole downloads debacle, the german charts need to get with the times and alow digitally exclusive tracks. Overall its one big mess. It is an odd system. I'd imagine Gaga will be #1 on the download chart and overall, was the best seller of the week but because it made less money doesnt reach the top. I guess the reason for that rule was to stop the decline in the physical market (i think a fair amount of people still buy physicals) but as downloads are clearly more popular now it really needs to be changed. The 9 week rule did make sense but then as downloads have taken over, 12 weeks later the songs would only re-enter anyway. Anyway, glad Sunrise Avenue has charted, love the track, its almost #1 on itunes there now. I think it could be this years Rasmus, Mando Diao (Euro rock song). I also thought Lena could be #1 next week but its now falling quite fast on itunes and musicload (guess most people are buying the album?)
February 23, 201114 yr Author Singles chart now under normal format :) Simonf, yeah I agree that downloads just slowed the chart in general. There are fewer songs released physically too, a bit like the UK. Shame, before Germany was the centre of Europe and got nearly all the releases from around the continent.
February 24, 201114 yr Author Rest of the new entries in the album chart: 24 Neu Need You Know - Lady Antebellum 26 Neu Io E Te - Gianna Nannini 27 Neu Harcore Will Never Die, But You Will - Mogwai 31 Neu The Constant - I Blame Coco 42 Neu The People's Key - Bright Eyes 58 Neu Flammentriebe - Dornenreich :)
