To tell you truth, the best song I liked from 2010 was Greece. Most of these countries don't use their traiditonal music. They simply do pop music in order to be popular. Greece had its own traditional type of song and they stayed true to themselves.

I loved 'Opa' UK gave it 12, didn't we?

Yes, we did ;)

I really hated Greece's song last year at first, but it just all made sense on stage, and I ended up loving it! It certainly got the crowd in the arena going.

After listening to the compilation, I decided to draw up a new prediction. It'll probably remain like this until the semi finals, unless some countries throw a curvebal and come up with a spectacular stage show...

Semi Final 1:

01. Azerbaijan

02. Russia

03. Finland

04. Norway

05. Armenia

06. Hungary

07. Turkey

08. Georgia

09. Greece

10. Serbia

11. Poland

12. Croatia

13. Iceland

14. Albania

15. Switzerland

16. Lithuania

17. Portugal

18. San Marino

19. Malta

Semi Final 2:

02. Bosnia & Herzegovina

03. Sweden

04. Denmark

05. Slovenia

06. Ukraine

07. Israel

08. Romania

09. Austria

10. Ireland

11. Netherlands

12. Belarus

13. Latvia

14. Moldova

15. Bulgaria

16. FYR Macedonia

17. Cyprus

18. Slovakia

19. Belgium

Final:

And my first prediction for the final. It's early days, I know...

MOLDOVA ARE GOING TO WIN.

THERE. I SAID IT.

You've got to be kidding. Just saying: I'd bet my life on them not winning. Were it not for the odd shock, I'd bet my life on them not even qualifying.

Now I've had one listen to each of the songs, I'm going to rank them; Eurovision style! (Don't forget basing on one listen - some songs (TWiiNS) may have a couple more listens) There are 15 (including our own entry) that I would give points too.

12 Points: United Kingdom: Blue 'I Can' (I honestly believe we have the best song. But seeing as it's the UK and I won't be able to vote for it, I'm not including it)

12 Points: Azerbaijan: Ell/Nikki 'Running Scared'

10 Points: Sweden: Eric Saade 'Popular'

08 Points: Slovakia: TWiiNS 'I'm Still Alive'

-----

07 Points: Slovenia: Maja Keuc 'No One'

06 Points: Austria: Nadine Beiler 'The Secret is Love'

05 Points: Russia: Alexej Vorobjov 'Get You'

04 Points: Norway: Stella Mwangai 'Haba Haba'

03 Points: Bulgaria: Poli Genova 'Na Inat'

02 Points: Hungary: Kati Wolf 'What About My Dreams?'

01 Points: Estonia: Getter Jaani 'Rockefeller Street'

The other 4 I like are:

01. Georgia: Eldrine 'One More Day'

02. Denmark: A Friend In London 'New Tomorrow'

03. Spain: Lucia Perez 'Que Me Quiten Lo Bailao'

04. Netherlands: 3JS 'Never Alone'

Oh and what is this $h!t that beat out Sarah Burgess??!?!

ALL based on one listen! (Bar Blue and TWiiNS)!

Haha. I was kidding. I wasn't being serious

Were they really one of the highest in the odds?

The odds are always strange this time of year. Some people are probably basing their bets on their success in 2005...

I'm SHOCKED you aren't claiming Poland or Croatia!

Croatia's song is generic Eurovision fodder, just with a little bit of a Britney-style dubstep beat in .

If I'm honest I can't remember Poland's song

Ukraine's song is horribly forgettable. As soon I finished listening to it I had already no clue how it went...

It'll still qualify though.

EDIT: Also, I dreamt last night that Germany failed to qualify to the final, I was sad until I realized Germany were prequalified.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just found this post through a google and just had to register. I've listened to the most of the front runners so far (top 12), I've mainly opted for live performances as I found studio versions hid a multitude of sin :arrr:

My top 4 are:

1. Estonia - A bit Katey Perry but has a good live performance, needs a better act though.

2. UK - Decent song and no doubt boy band routine.

3. France - Good voice, will it suit the majority? And the stage performance will be non existant.

4. Sweden - The starting lyrics to the song a bit poor but the rest is good. Also has a good stage performace.

Oh wonderful, the title worked! This thread's the top result on Google for Eurovision 2011 predictions ^_^

It's what we do. Welcome :)

Anyway, some random predictions I'll make for now - Ireland, Iceland and Portugal will qualify. Albania and Ukraine might not. Sweden will not be in the top half of the scoreboard on final night. And we won't win, but we'll come damn close.
