Every single new song that comes out is similar to What's My Name? in your eyes  What's My Name? is generic so obviously it's going to be similar to songs that come before and after it. It is anything but a trend setter. .

Right There sounds like parts of What's My Name? If you actually listen cloesly to the instrumentals. This video separates the instruments at the beginning. I was thinking specifically of the part of the melody which plays along briefly in this video between 0:25 and 0:35:

Then compare that to the instrumental in the verses of Right There (after 0:10):

Sorry, I think they genuinely are similar. There's other songs which use a similar "effect" in. If you look at the beginning of this thread, I posted one called Stickerbrush Symphony, which was out years and years before What's My Name?.

The parts in Drake's and 50's verses which are similar are the bits where they both go "Say my name, say my name".

So, to sum up, I'm comparing Right There and What's My Name? because they have similar instrumentals and the rap verses have the same phrase in. Is that reasonable enough?!

The only other song I can remember comparing to What's My Name? is I'm Into You by Jennifer Lopez/Lil Wayne. Although I have compared What's My Name? to songs that came before it a lot, which might be what is confusing you. :) And I compare all types of songs all the time anyway.

Really, if you actually look at the music to songs, there's very few truly generic ones in the chart, maybe things like All Time Low, Please Don't Let Me Go, Replay, Bad Romance, In My Head, I Like It, etc, but it's not much.

I agree. As soon as I heard Right There, I thought of Whats My Name? Loads of people seem to be making similar sounding songs, even I'm Into You has the same structure with the 'na-na-na' intro and then a male rapper, having that similar length of rap.
Wasn't one of my favourites when I first listened to the album, definitely a grower! The video helped personally.
Yip :cheer: Plus RT is only being added to US iTunes on the 17th and going for radio adds on the 24th (although it's already #96 on POP). The release timing and promo could not be anymore perfect for this not to be her US breakthrough hit. Also dying to hear "Peep Show ft. Snoop Dogg" which is a yet-to-be-leaked new song for the US album :drama:
Wow.. that's brilliant promo for Nicole :o

Doing really well on US radio:

This is going to be a major hit and prove everyone wrong, like I said in my first post. .

How do those figures compare to hit songs in the charts when they were first released?

I ask this as I can't put them into context and therefore don't know how good they are. :P

The song is yet to go for adds on US radio and it's already gaining that much spins just because of its radio friendly appeal and that's the 50 Cent-less version, so it's very promising. It's yet to be released on iTunes and be promoted, imagine after all this has happened how it should shoot up. Baby Love only peaked at #47 US Pop Radio and RT is already #85 after two days. .

Oh that's brilliant.

Personally, RT seems very generic but I do like it a lot due to the summer vibe.

I think it'll peak on the Billboard Hot 100 at around #6. AI plus Ellen should ensure a top 10 placing.

I take it 'Don't Hold Your Breath' is the second US single. Afterall, it is a UK #1.

I doubt that, the new song she's recording for the US release, "Peep Show" is the only contender for the 2nd single in the US. It is going to feature Snoop Dogg who is really popular at the moment and considering how good they were together on PCD's "Buttons", it'll only be an opportunity missed. . A featured rapper single is also pretty much as safe as you can play it in the US for unestablished artists. Probably a re-release single/future 4th single for the UK? Can't wait to hear it!
I think the Uk will be getting a re-release after Right There with "Peep Show, Cold" plus more new music on the re-release.
She features on Steven Tyler's new track/& video!
Does anyone know when X Factor USA is beginning? Since she's the host she should get a great promotion platform from it. . Video is #14 on US iTunes and song is #40 on UK iTunes :cheer:

I'm guessing it'll run simultaneously with UK X Factor so late August/early September with live shows in October.

That's a great start for it in America. Hopefully it'll be added to the z100 playlist when it impacts radio.

US Radio Update. . She's already doing better than J Lo's new single! :D

So this is (much to everyones surprise, I'm sure) is taking off here in the UK! :o I can definitely see why though, as it's a huge grower and is very summery.
