Adele is, as we all know, breaking records and selling bucket loads of albums all over the globe.

Adele's 21 spent a total of 11 consecutive weeks at #1 in the official album chart, and was then knocked off for one week by the Foo Fighters, and then decided to jump back to #1 the week after and has now (today 24/7/11) spent a total of 18 weeks at #1 on the UK official album chart!

"21 has sold in excess of 100,000 copies every week since its release, giving Adele the top spot and matching a record set by Leona Lewis's Spirit in 2007.

Only two albums have managed to spend more consecutive weeks atop the charts in the 21st century: The Beatles' 1 spent nine weeks at number one in 2000/1 and James Blunt's Back To Bedlam spent eight weeks at the top in 2005, reports Music Week."

How long can 21 stay at #1 for?

Also which artist do you think will knock her off?

..*updates* (07/03/12)

21 weeks in total for 21 at #1 on the UK album chart!

Just had a look at the album charts at amazon.com where of course Adele is at No. 1 and no future release is even Top 10. Even tough albums by some pretty big names as Radiohead, Nicole Scherzinger, Ronan Keating, Britney Spears, The Strokes are our in the next couple of weeks, i don't think any of them can challenge Adele.

Completely agree with you steps, I just cant see any of them kncokcing Adele off, even the big names like you mentioned, as she's already kept big names off weeks after her release, its as shindymindy said its a modern classic. I cant imagine how many awards she'll be winning next year Gramys, Brits etc.

Brillant to see a British female dominate the album chart. Well done Adele. People might have thought that she would be a one-hit wonder but obviously 'Make You Feel My Love' helped.
11 in a row, but I wouldn't rule out a later return to #1...in fact it's probably inevitable.
I think she'll be number one until the Foo Fighters release in April. There may be a very very small chance that she will be knocked off, so too speak , by The Strokes.

Until Gaga releases.

The Strokes and Britney are the only real possible challengers IMO and I can't see either of them doing over 80k - Adele will probably dip below 100k in the next 2-3 weeks but not by that much.

So, 11-12 weeks!

11 plus most likely it will roll over into Mother's Day weekend.

I suppose Ronan Keating could clear 100k on Mother's Day week, but he's probably not as popular now as he was with previous releases.

In any case, Adele will probably still be around 100k even then.

yeah there's mothers day, comic relief and surely she has a bit more promo lined up because i can only think of the brits, jools holland and alan carr that she's been on this era. i'm glad she's looking to break the record for most week in the 21st century. 11 weeks seems pretty certain and even that's incredible to think about! almost 3 months #1..
11 weeks! I think the only album that can dethrone her is Wasting Light by Foo Fighters! Their previous album sold 135k, so i guess they will sell around 100k (?)!
I've said more as I think it'll easily cruise to 11 weeks until being knocked off by Foo Fighters, but she'll almost certainly reclaim the #1 after that.
I think she'll have declined a fair bit by the time Foos release so hopefully they can hold her off until GaGa's released. Would love to The Strokes beat her, their comeback is hyped but I reckon they'll struggle to pass 70k.

I chose 11 weeks (without bothering to check the NR schedule).

ISTM the timing of the release has been the most fortuitous part - had she released in the Xmas run up, she'd still have sold tons, but in far more concentrated amounts - say 350-400k/wk.

She'd end up with the same overall sales, but far fewer weeks at the top.

I think The Strokes could knock Adele off the Top, I'm pretty sure their other albums went to Number 1, but not too sure on sales figures for any of their albums. The Foo's will defiantly do it if not. I'm not too sure if Gorillaz will be number 1 the week after, as far as I'm aware there's not as much hype for The Fall as there was for Plastic Beach. But on second thoughts most of their fans were able to download the fall for free.

So if The Strokes won't, then the Foo's defiantly will.

^ Strokes only had 1 #1, First Impressions of Earth (think it sold 60-70k at #1?); their second album was #2 behind Dido's Life For Rent so probably sold well, but not tremendously.

There's been five years to wait for Angles so it should sell reasonably well first week but IMO no more than 80-85k at most.

asn't Robbie got an album coming out in a couple of weeks?

March 20

Cage The Elephant - Thank You Happy Birthday

Chris Brown - F.A.M.E.

Green Day - Awesome As F**k

Nicole Scherzinger - Killer Love

Robbie Williams - Special Editions

Ronan Keating - When Ronan Met Burt

The Strokes - Angles

Probably going to be her toughest week coming up
