 This debate is hilarious, and so many people have joined, okay we'll leave it at we all understand eachother?

Set Fire To The Rain  This needs to be on radio and a video out in April please. (Even though SLY is still #1 and RITD still top 10 and 21 isnt budging from #1 on album chart, or 19 for that matter, but i just want it on radio, tv and the charts  More likely out in May?)

Someone Like You is getting released as the 2nd single in April. :( Which means Set Fire to the Rain probably won't get released until 2 or 3 months after that, so maybe in June.

But I agree with you, Set Fire to the Rain should've been the second single. They should've ignored Someone Like You. Then we could've had another 3rd single. Turning Tables would've been good. That was actually getting a little bit of airplay before the BRITs performance. It was even in the top 100 on the airplay chart one week! :o For no reason. I guess people just bought the album and they wanted to play it on the radio. Or people kept phoning in and requesting it. Or one large radio station playlisted it for no reason. But whatever it was, it looked promising for that song.

No way should SLY of been ignored, its too amazing to be ignored, also its probably a massive reason why 21 is selling so well, definitely right thing to do there, two performances (3 including Jools Holland last year) has seen SLY rocket up the charts and probably go on to sell a million copies, had to be the 2nd single, public demand was way too strong for it. :D

Set Fire To The Rain will make an amazing 3rd single, probably late May, but i can see it climbing well before its release.

Turning Tables    but an album track, one of my favourite songs of all time, not a single I think though.

Well yes she is the best singer ever ATM

Huh? You would put Adele as a better singer than people like Whitney, Mariah and Céline?

I know its been said before but I really don't see the point in this, why release a massive song that's been number one for 5 weeks on April when they could start promotion for SFTTR, which looks like it'll go top 20 when it could of been a top 10 hit for her. Someone Like You doesn't need to be a single, it's massive already, all it needs is good radio airplay which it's getting and loads of people buying the song.

I think the member means ATM as in releasing at the moment, which is probably true she is the best singer with a new album out right now.

I put ATM (at the moment) to avoid this kind of argument!!!!

I'm not arguing, I'm just asking, as I was confused as you said "best singer ever". The "atm" bit was kind of irrelevant in respects to that comment, but never mind.

What benefit would releasing Someone Like You as a single have? It's already going to be a million-seller, without a single release. Giving it a single release will give it an extra 100,000 sales, maximum. Plus, nearly everybody has heard Someone Like You already.

The other option is release a different song from the album. Then the public in the UK will know 4 Adele songs instead of 3, which should sell the album more, surely? Plus, releasing a brand new song, she could get like another 500,000-seller.

There's not much more you can do with Someone Like You.

Music video: It'll get a music video without being released in the UK because it's being released as a single in all the other countries obviously. They actually need to make it a single for it to get popular in the other countries.

Radio airplay: It's got to #1 on the airplay chart. Need I say more here?

Physical formats: This could benefit Someone Like You. But again, a potential 100,000 extra sales for Someone Like You, or a potential 500,000 sales for a new song?

Remixes: I doubt Someone Like You would be getting any remixes anyway.

I agree. Such a pointless single release imo. And it's not like 21 is one of those albums where only a few of the songs are single-worthy. She's got a lot of good material on her album. Everybody already knows Someone Like You. There's other songs on there which the public need to hear.

 So thats a huge reason to release it as a single.

What harm would it too to release it as a single? None. It may as well be classified as a single, so why not. :)

Will On The Floor have enought support to get to No1?

I think so. At least it should be! Especially seeing as it'll be very quiet next week! :D Only Adele will challenge and if she beat J-Lo after 6 weeks, I'll be ASTOUNDED!

I hope so, I am not as sure as some of the members one here. I am slightly scared it will do a 'Tonight', which most people on here also tipped for #1.

I am really glad to see LMFAO having some sucsess with there new single, it sounds like a mix of 'Getting Over You' (which obvcourse they featured in) and 'We No Speak Americano' so I really hope it follows in both of their footsteps and gets the same peak. The video is great too.

Don't you understand?

Adele can't release an infinite number of singles you know!! Time is ticking away. She's had an album track take off, get played all over the radio, without her label even having to ask any of the stations to play it! It's gotten to #1. It's a waste, seriously. They said they're only releasing 3 singles, so what it looks like we're getting is:

1. Rolling in the Deep

2. Someone Like You in April

3. Set Fire to the Rain in June/July

Someone Like You has got #1. It is one of the MOST popular songs of the year. But "Oh no!!", her label seem to think they need to promote the song more?!

A better thing would've be:

1. Rolling in the Deep

2. Set Fire to the Rain in April

3. Another song from the album in June/July

Sorry. It's like if Lady Gaga suddenly annouces that she wants to re-release Bad Romance when she could just release Dance in the Dark instead. That's essentially what her record-label are doing. Getting what looks to be the biggest hit of the year so far, and deciding to re-release it, essentially.

All three of those people tend to oversing which makes their voice sound horrible. Bad examples IMO... I get they have very powerful voices but they seem a bit *too* powerful.

They may over sing, but those three women are known for their incredible voices. They have unrivalled range, control and power. Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston are known as two of the best singers of all time. Whilst some people (like yourself) may not personal like their voices, it will never change the fact that in their prime, they were unrivalled.

What is with this understanding business today?

(and this is slowly turning in to the Adele and Eric thread i've noticed )

Yes i get where your coming from, however it may as well be officially classed as a single, as its done so so well it IS a single so they should confirm it as a SINGLE. Also as its on radio and tv it has to be released as a single, no album track has video play or radio play on such a huge scale without being a single.

Do YOU understand?

Whitney Mariah and Celine are the three best singers of all time, a lot of people dont like them though and wont listen to them, and ofcourse they also have loads of people who do like them and will listen to them. But they arent releasing now (well attempting too at times) but there best days are in the past and were all huge, and all deservedly so, such powerful voices, real vocal talent.

Only two females live up to them in terms of powerful voices in todays music industry, Leona and Beyonce.

This really isnt iTunes related now..

Clearly not true as SLY was getting massive airplay and video play without being a single.

Remixes: I doubt Someone Like You would be getting any remixes anyway.

What makes you think this? I could easily imagine a drum n bass/dubstep remix of Someone Like You or another remix like Jamie xx's remix of RITD.

Edited by Bray

Bray, thats because they knew it was going to be confirmed as a single, way before we did (well most of us knew it would be and should be). The video was sent to play on TV because it was lined up as a single, and also sent to radio as they were given the go-ahead saying it was to be a single. :)

Name me any other album track which has had a Video on TV and radio play of such huge extent as SLY then?

Yes. :D

With other songs that have sort of got medium-ly popular as album tracks (e.g. Telephone, Love the Way You Lie), in those situations, it's kind of like "Wow, there's a lot of buzz for that song. Already top 20 and we haven't even advertised it yet. May aswell go the whole way and release it".

But this Someone Like You situation is one that we've literally never seen anything like before (in the UK, a few similar-ish things have happened in the US before). It's far more extreme than even Love the Way You Lie. #1 in the sales chart. #1 in the airplay chart. Future million-seller.

You're right, it is weird that a song has got so much airplay and sales, and isn't a single. It's never really happened before, to this extent. But there's no written rule saying they have to release it.
