4th studio album for Nerina, who is now signed to Geffen. Hoping things go better for this time round, I liked 'The Graduate', but it seemed quite a step down in all departements really. The budget certainly being one of them so I'm hoping they make a good go of things with her this time round. 'Fires' was absouletly sublime though and remains one of my favourite albums.

Tracklisting - according to Wiki. Numerous other tracks's names being thrown around too.

I Think

Will You Still Love Me

If I Lost You Now

Grace

All Bets Are Off

This Will Be Our Year

History Boys

Put Your Hands Up

Turn Me On Again

Dissapointingly lead single 'Put Your Hands Up' is a not a cover of worldwide superstar Nadine Coyle's never to be #1. Only appears to have leaked in full on musicweek's website so far, Popjustice only have a preview of the HQ and youtube only has live performances.

This was apparantly sent to be on Kylie's Aphrodite but it has to be presumed that it was a lot more poppier at the time. It's being dismissed as boring in a few cornerns but I think it has quite the charm to it, perhaps it takes a few listens.

I was pleasantly surprised when I heard 'Put Your Hands Up', definitely better than anything from the last album.

Plus Kylie couldn't really have had two songs called Put Your Hands Up on the same album...

All three of her albums are great but Fires the most so, although maybe because it was released in 2006 when I was in love with the world and everything in it  But seriously - Geek Love, Sophia, Everybody's Gone To War, Idaho etc...you can't fault quality like that. I saw her perform in a church in Brighton that year and it was literally incredible and very bizarre!

The last album was really good but she was never going to maintain such a high standard - that said, When Did I Become Such A Bitch and Real Late Starter were genius. The former was a completely wasted opportunity single wise, sure it wouldn't have gone to the heights of being the UK's biggest selling single of 2009 as thisispop so optimistically predicted, but it would have been a bold and interesting choice.

Judging by the clip on PJ, I'm really liking the sound of Put Your Hands Up, the melody really reminds me of an Eiffel 65 song I used to love called Now Is Forever!

Joy. Fires is a very good album and whilst The Graduate was a bit meh in places it was enjoyable on the whole, so naturally can't wait! Liking the sound of PYHU!

I remember when Nerina Pallot and Missy Higgins were our most loved women back then.

Good times! I periodically Google Missy to see what she's up to these days, seeing as it's now four years since On A Clear Night, but I get the impression that we're not about to see a new album any time soon. Of all the albums released in the mid 00's, it's Fires and The Sound of White that I still play the most, I don't think either have aged at all, at least compared to most of the other stuff I was listening to at the time. This is the most recent thing I found from her, I'm guessing she came out then? Not that it wasn't wildly obvious anyway...

Isn't she getting into acting or something equally ridiculous now? I'm sure I read something like that...

Shame :( She doesn't seem like the sort that was ever in it for the fame or money, so she must be satisfying some curiosities. Her main draw for me was always her accent, although I know that was a big turn off for a lot of people. Almost all of my friends couldn't understand my obsession with her at all.

It's not like her popularity ever massively dwindled either, she was still hitting #1 with singles and albums in Australia and Where I Stood became quite big in the US after featuring in a few TV shows I think. Seems like such a world away now, the Australian charts, like the UK charts, are packed with Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Gaga and Ke$ha, an unassuming native lesbian singer/songwriter would never get a look in.

As a side note, listening to The Special Two now, I've just remembered that I quoted the entire first verse in my A Level Communication Studies exam when explaining the perceived roles of women in society

I get a hunch she's going to be massive with this new album. Nana Fires will forever be the best times. To be young, watching a woman in a supermarket food fight

I'd really love to see her finally get her big moment, so I hope you're right. She's such a major talent, although the last album disappointed me a bit. The first two are

Possibly my favourite video in a while, I love these 'in one take' affairs;

She massively deserves some sort of success with this era and this single but I won't hold my breath.

Oh I adore this video. Apparantly the 2 little girls at the end arent actually suppose to be there, but just lived nearby and decided to join in. I'm not holding out for anything huge, but I certainly think she has a shot of some decent success this time round at least.

Well I'm going to have to break against popular opinion and say that I'm not sold (not that I'm a Nerina fan or anything, I think I only know two songs prior to this). Her vocals are a bit SHRILL and I'm quite certain it would've sounded much better sung by Kylie in a lower key. The video is a nice idea but there's something incredibly cringeworthy about the dancing and some of the faces Nerina pulls make me want to stick my head between a woman's legs as she gives birth just because the view would be easier to handle with fewer long term psychological effects.

Ooh I like it on first listen ^_^ sounds like a grower, interested to hear more from this era too.

When Did I Become Such A Bitch is genius and Everybody's Gone To War is a classic. That video

I have Fires and The Graduate, and i keep meaning to give Fires a proper listen. I am rather a fan of this wonderful woman.

And when Youtube stops crawling i'll listen to Put Your Hands Up

Really?!

I don't mind the video at all. When Nerina comes out from the alley she reminds me of Katy B mixed with Myleene Klass.

Good song. IMO far better than Kylie could have done with it (Kylie would've done it OK though). Doubt it'll go top 40 though, hopefully top 75. I think Nerina will probably get like Thea Gilmore chart-wise - devoted fanbase but lucky to go top 50. Fingers crossed the album does better than 'The Graduate' and goes top 40  She deserves it, one of the best pop singer-songwriters around.

I was a big Nerina fan after Fires came out...went trekking all the way to St Ives to see her...and then after The Graduate, I kind of lost my faith. I found it really disappointing, even though I was already a fan of ...Bitch, Everything's Illuminated and Real Late Starter.

I listened to Put Your hands Up and 30 seconds in I was thinking "I'm just not into this, please just write another Idaho / Sophia" and then by the last chorus I was thinking "wow, I need to listen to this again."

Faith restored...for now.
