I Can might have an outside chance if it wins ESC - I don't think it will regardless of the quality of the song as I think the UK's winning days are well and truly over. It definitely could go top 5 a la Jade Ewen though.

Why? If the track's good enough and universal enough (which I Can could well be), I don't see why it couldn't win just because we haven't won since 1997.

I honestly do not see why people think wretch 32 will get to no.1, traktor was a lot more hyped than unorthodox and that only just made the top 5,the only thing I can see is J-lo for at least 2 weeks, with either E.T, Just Can't Get Enough or Where Dem Girls At having a decent shot at no.1 before lady Gaga and Blue come around. However, hopefully we will get a big new single announcement sometime soon from someone like beyonce who is due for a new album release this year and who is known to have a big collab with Kanye.

Traktor wasn't that hyped? He was hardly getting attention thrown at him like Jessie J, lol.

But I can think of several reasons why Unorthodox will do better than Traktor, off the top of my head:

1) It has Example on it, therefore reaching out to people who might not have bought it otherwise. It helps significantly that Example himself has wide appeal. Compare that to the mysterious "L" who literally wouldn't have attracted anybody new to the song, whoever he is.

2) Unorthodox is much poppier and 'light' in style/sound; in comparison to the brash, in-your-face urban sound of Traktor. This will also see it getting broader and stronger appeal. Several people who hated Traktor seem to like this one, for example.

3) It samples a very well-known song (Fools' Gold by The Stone Roses). This is always a good thing as it evokes familarity from the first listen, brings more attention to the song (whether positive or not), etc.

4) Lack of competiton. This means that Unorthodox could potentially get to #1 by only selling ~40% more than what Traktor sold in its first week, which is definitely possible when you consider the other reasons. It could also mean that many people who might not have bought Unorthodox if there were several main releases out that week will now buy it because there's only a couple (if that makes any sense outside my head) - this probably won't make *too* significant a difference, though. Traktor was released on a very competitive week, and one with several other urban releases, too.

5) It will get more radio airplay and faster now that Wretch 32 is at least slightly established on radio. Traktor didn't even make the top 50 on radio before release; Unorthodox likely will (it's already not far outside and jumped hugely last week).

Not saying it will definitely get to #1 - but I'll be surprised if it didn't outpeak Traktor, honestly, or at least sell more than it first week.

And feel free to add any other reasons if anyone else thinks of any! :D

Whenever Example decides to release "Changed The Way You Kiss Me" it'll go to #1, it's this year's "I'm Not Alone".

If it's released around the same time as Unorthodox that could be two quickfire #1s for him. I'm not convinced either will come close to the top though.

I think we've already had a few "I'm Not Alone"s this year :P

Why is everyone saying that Blue have faded into obscurity etc etc.

I don't think they have any more than Take That or Boyzone had. :/

It's boybands like A1, 5ive, V etc that have long been forgotton (ok maybe alot less so than V for the formers but you get what I mean)

I'd say that Blue are probably as well remembered as Boyzone were. It's just Boyzone have No Matter What which sold millions haha. :P

TT are and were obviously unbeatable but Boyzone had way more success than Blue, a clutch of #1 albums, seven (I think) #1 singles to compare to Blue's two, a greatest hits album that spent nine weeks at #1 and sold near to two million copies etc...plus Ronan went on to have a fairly massive solo career afterwards (he has a top 5 album as we speak ), unlike any of Blue. I think people forget just how successful Boyzone were :o Paled in comparison to TT obviously, but way ahead in 2nd place of the British/Irish boybands.

Blue were lucky that they didn't really have any competition around when they were big - A1 and 5ive had fizzled out more or less and Westlife were the ballad boyband and already rapidly going downhill in 2001/2002. But had they tried to stage a comeback without a platform like Eurovision (like I believe they tried to in 2009), I can't see that they'd have scored anything close to a hit single.

@Bray, I see no reason that we couldn't win Eurovision again, Germany managed it last year after a 30 odd year gap, and after a decade of flopping, we're in a better position than they were.

I hope so. It's brilliant :D But I'm not sure if it has the same wide appeal of Kickstarts, to be honest. That song was just massive.

Yeah, Blue were basically the third(?) incarnation of urban-pop boybands, after Damage and Another Level. Now JLS have that niché, so it will be interesting to see how Blue do with subsequent singles. I'm picturing more of an All Saints-esque comeback for them, personally, with one hit and then almost nothing else. I'm not convinced there's really any need for them anymore - especially since I Can seems to be moving straight to the same kind of sound of many of the British hits like JLS, Tinie Tempah, etc. So Eurovision will definitely probably get them at least a top 10 comeback but I think they need a lot of work to last another decent run.

Blue were very big albums-wise, though, which I always found slightly odd personally. Weren't their first 2 albums both million-sellers? :o I remember One Love especially selling ridiculously fast over Christmas 2002. But yeah, you're right, Boyzone were generally bigger overall.

Yep, I agree with basically all of that, particularly that they'll be rejuvinated one hit wonders as it were  Regardless of if they win Eurovision or 'only' come top ten (I can't see them doing any worse than that), they could certainly try to build on that by rushing an album out, but if they don't capitalise quickly and get a second single out then they'll fizzle back out instantly. With pretty much all of our UK entrants, their ESC entry has been their final ever single (Jessica Garlick, Jemini, Javine, Daz, Scooch, Andy Abraham, Josh Dubovie), it's quite impressive that Jade Ewen even managed a second top 40 hit! Although she took 'the Eurovision curse' over with her to what was one of the UK's biggest bands and sunk the Sugababes instead

You're right about JLS having the 'R&B/pop boyband' market all sewn up right now, there only ever seems to be one around at a time. Boyzone did have the advantage of being around in the late 90's, where Smash Hits, Top Of The Pops, CD:UK, the CD single sales boom and the like were all at their peak, Blue were slightly late to capitalise on those things when they were at their height. It's difficult therefore to compare them as they both had a level of cultural impact, but Boyzone's was almost certainly bigger. Even after 10 years away (and before Stephen's untimely death :() they managed a top 5 comeback album and single, which I seriously doubt Blue would have had the ability to do without a leg up.

i can't tell what will be number 1 soon but i can tell you what WON'T be number 1 anytime soon:

'Born this way' by Gaga... :puke2:

any Britney single from 'Femme Fatale' ^_^

Blue (unless they re-release it with Pitbull and a decent melody)

J.Lo's next single after 'On the floor'. :naughty:

Rihanna's 4th single from 'Loud' :'California king bed',i still dunno why she chose this crappy tune. :puke2:

Duran Duran or the Human League

Any Glee release for the next 4892342398 years. :puke2:

You say Glee won't get a number-one, but there's no knowing these things. 'Gives You Hell' reached number-one in Ireland, which is a HUGE shock. I can't think of any songs that they'd get to number-one with to be honest though, but it'd be nice to see them get a few more top 10s.
Get It Right or Loser Like Me could actually be shock number ones in a quiet week, you know.

I've looked on youtube for Lady GaGa "Judas" to see if there's any preview of it, went on a "fake" instrumental of it and found these lyrics. I hope these aren't real - it doesn't look too good. Still hoping it debuts at number one

Judas, You never ever never ever really ever loved me more, than I but Nemesis is watching over-high and this is your time, Judas, lie on lie, write and cry the echo truth killed you so you may finally die

Master Judas, My Judas you're all mine I spent my nights healing from your damaging bites

My Judas, My Judas, you'll be fine I slept over your hard stoned shoulder I domestic flighted for you, baby murdered as you might find me cooler, honey

I'm just a holy fool, oh baby he's so cruel, he's the one who will make me a liar, make my speech nothing worth but I'm still in love with Judas, Baby I'm still in love with master Judas, Baby

Jude If my love is a sin,if no man seems to fit As I trust the world,to put me back on feet

I'm just a holy fool, oh baby he's so cruel, he's the one who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth but I'm still in love with Judas, since his birth I'm still in love with Judas, Oh Judas you bring me mirth

Jude If my love is a sin, if no man seems to fit As I trust the LORD,he'll put me back on ship is it the shoe heel or the size of my feet

I'm just a holy fool, oh baby he's so cruel, he's the one who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth but I'm still in love with Judas, Baby I'm still in love with Judas, Baby

Jude I promised you,I won't bother you As I crossed my fingers back from North I'm still in love with Judas, Oh Judas you bring me mirth

Given LLM didn't get #1 on the US digital chart (peaked at #2) and Glee is *far* more popular in the USA than here, I don't see how it'd have a chance at #1 even if it was a REALLY quiet week (as in <50k for the #1)

^ Those lyrics aren't real, an article was on DS yesterday. They were leaked a while ago, but confirmed yesterday as fake.

Anyway, really quite barren release wise. I can only see Wrecth32, Bruno Mars (as it's a quiet week), Gaga, Jessie J and maybe Glee's Loser Like Me (depending on when 'Original Song' airs) getting number 1, and Adele will blatantly sneak another week at least in.

Phewph :drama: Was worried there. I'd love "Judas" to be part three of Paparazzi/Telephone (video-wise), and it to be released on a Sunday then maybe it'll have a chance of being number one and outselling BTW. Please go back to fun Gaga for this single!!

If Glee becomes number one I will puke. I haven't heard LLM and I want to save my ears, same goes for Blue

Don't be ridiculous http://www.moopy.org.uk/forums/images/smilies/grin.gif Have you never been told to not judge a book by its cover? All three of them are great pop songs...Loser Like Me in particular's the sort of thing P!nk, or any Max Martin/Dr. Luke popstar could easily pull off.

Loser Like Me is absolutely dreadful but Get It Right is actually quite good. It's a shame the former is more likely to be a hit...

Yep. Judas HAS to be an epic vid in the vein of Paparazzi and Telephone, and I think it will go no. 1 with a Sunday release. I love Glee's LLM, but it is so typical Glee although it's their first original song so if you don't like Glee I doubt you'll like LLM. Blue's song is pretty generic, it's alright though. Still nowhere near the standard of the other Eurovision tracks, but I think we could have a top 3 finish on our hands, and our strongest chance of winning in a while!
