The problem with on air - on sale is that you need to handle it very wisely and correctly. A lot of OA/OS releases by the majors have flopped this year just because of the poor managing/marketing. The excellent example of OA/OS handling is 'Price Tag' obviously when the song full premiere, the video premiere and the download release all happened in a very short time.

Sugababes (kind of) have the OA/OS experience. Remember 'Girls' going on download 2.5 weeks before the physical release (instead of 1 week as had planned before)? A lot of people were moaning why was it so early, but the label gathered a lot of extra sales from those two first weeks most of which they wouldn't gather had it been a classical model of release. And the chart-run would look very dire: 1-10-14... or 2-10-14...

That's why I said they need to put the song on sale after they release the video. If they don't do it they could flop horrifically like 'Girls' by Beyonce or 'Till the World Ends' by Britney.

Or song title/lyric......

If they do on air/on sale they MUST MUST MUST have the video ready to go. We are talking about the combination of Universal Island and Crown however, so I fully expect the song to be played, the wrong thing to be added to iTunes, the video delayed until the launch of Gran Turismo 9 and just general retardation.

The thing with Girls is that they put the Radio edit on iTunes early by 'accident' and it just haemorrhaged sales as a result.

Ha! But then again, Jessie J was handled perfectly with 'Price Tag', and she's exactly on Crown/Island too.

The 'Girls' release was really weird indeed, they should have waited at least for Sunday. But I still think that the early release didn't do harm for them. Maybe they didn't get the #1 (which wasn't a guarantee with a front-loaded release too) but that helped them to get more sales. After all, 'Girls' outsold every 'Sweet 7' single in a lower sales climate!

I personally think that they have handled 'Wear My Kiss' VERY poorly. When the video was just out everyone was talking about them. Yes, it wasn't mostly the positive reaction but still, they were very relevant on the video release week. But then... the hype just faded away, I was very surprised when they got to #7 with the song after all.

Basically we all agree that they need to release the single on sale after the video premiere BUT not too far away from it, I'd say 1-2 weeks after it at the max.

Get Sexy outsold Girls

OA/OS...I cant see it working in their favour, even if they end up with just a higher peak because of holding off on the download I think it would look better for them after sweet 7.

No. As of June'09 'Girls' were on 179k, the latest figure we have for GS is 174k.

Those sales sound pretty low in comparison of what you hear these days. I mean, I don't expect the Sugababes to outsell Gaga or Britney but I am being completely delusional to hope at least for 200k-300k for the first single?

Yes, I am

gs outsold ttwe in first week

Excited to hear this ... it really is make or break with them with this album, I hope they can pull it off with a song more like 'About You Now' and less like 'Wear My Kiss'.

Zakiya has just told me that their management has decided to premiere the song in Morocco.

They'll perform it live in a 22 song set and are also filming a fly on the wall documentary out there.

The track is "unlike anything the 'Babes have done before and has Jamaican/Reggae influences, samba beats and an awesme hook".

Reggae? Now correct me if I'm wrong but did they not have a Reggae album tack called Back Down????

This could be disastrous or amazing.

Reggae sounds really good! But Back Down is officially my least favorite Sugababes song EVER!, so it need not sound like that. But I don't think Back Down is very reggae-y so...

If it's like 'Back Down', it would be disastrous for me.

Back Down was OK, but I'm not sure Reggae's the right route... I'm not sure what I wanted tbh, I'm just a bit apprehensive on reggae - as Silas said it could go either way... Hopefully the right way!
