ADELE'S 10th NUMBER 1 WEEK - NEW ANGLES

As Adele's 21 is No.1, for a 10th Week, in today's UK Chart,

(W/E 9th April Album Chart), I decided to try to find new angles

on these Chart Feats, that she adds to each Week.

The new Angles are based on how long No.1 Albums have spent

there - consecutively - in their FIRST Chart Weeks. Adele is the

1st since 1970 to manage as long as her 1st 10 Weeks at No.1! @@@

(@@@ = With a STUDIO Album)

SEE:,

1) 9 WEEKS AT No.1 - 21 became the 1st Studio Album to spend its

1st 9 Weeks at No.1 since Super Trouper- ABBA (1980/1981)

2) 10 WEEKS AT No.1 - It becomes the 1st Studio Album to spend

more than its 1st 9 Weeks at No.1 since Bridge Over Troubled Water,

by Simon & Garfunkel, which spent its first 13 Weeks at No.1, in 1970.

(It had 7 further Runs at No.1 = 33 No.1 Weeks over-all).

3) 10 WEEKS AT No.1 - It also becomes the 1st Album to spend more than

its 1st 9 Weeks at No.1, since, Legend, by Bob Marley & The Wailers

was No.1, for its first 12 Weeks, in 1984.

4) MORE THAN 13 WEEKS AT No.1 - IF - BY CHANCE - it manages

more than its 1st 13 Weeks at No.1, it will become the only Studio Album

to achieve that - ever. (Whilst Sgt Pepper, by The Beatles, had a Run

of 23 Weeks at No.1, in 1967, its 1st Chart Week was at No.8, before

it began that 23 Week Run. It eventually managed 27 No.1 Weeks,

in 4 1967/1968 Runs at the Top. In 1969/1970, Abbey Road managed

17 Weeks at No.1, but that was in 2 Runs - 11 Weeks + 6 Weeks).

5) MORE THAN 13 WEEKS AT No.1 - Indeed, IF it manages more than

its 1st 13 Weeks at No.1 it becomes the ONLY Album - ever - to achieve

that! (In 1978, the Grease Soundtrack was No.1 for 13 Weeks, but it

took 14 Weeks to reach No.1 - having entered at No.36. Earlier in 1978,

the Saturday Night Fever, Soundtrack was No.1 for 18 Weeks, but it took

9 Weeks to reach No.1 - entering at No.39).

6) OTHER BEATLES ALBUMS - MORE THAN 13 WEEKS AT No.1

In 1963, Please Please Me was No.1 for 30 consecutive Weeks. However

it entered at No.8, & took 6 Weeks to climb to No.1. In 1963/1964, With The

Beatles was No.1 for 21 consecutive Weeks, but it began them in its 2nd

Chart Week - having entered at No.2. In 1964, A Hard Day's Night, was

No.1 for 21 Weeks in a row - but, they began in Week 2. It entered at No.3...

The Jennifer Lopez Single rips off the Melody of

'Lambada' by Kaoma. It was a Global Hit, & a UK No.4

Hit, in 1989. (And that was said to have been ripped

off from even older Songs, at the time).

It's a sample, it doesn't 'rip it off'.

Adele could break the record for most weeks spent at number one, that's if she spends 116 weeks or more at the top as the current record is Original Soundtrack "South Pacific" which spent 115 non consecutive weeks at the top including a whole consecutive year, how boring would of that been. I'd like her to have the record of most weeks spent at number one for a number one debut

A slightly more achievable record would be most weeks at #1 for an artist album :P The record for that is Simon & Garfunkel with 33 AFAIA. That might be a bit out of reach for Adele still :P but who knows?

If Foo Fighters don't stop her Adele should easily get to 18 weeks (and it'd still be an easy 17 weeks even if Foo Fighters do dtop her as WL isn't exactly likely to be #1 for more than a week) as there seem to be literally no other major releases until GaGa.

The achieveable Record for Adele, would be to manage 14 Weeks at

No.1 - consecutive - with '21'. If she can do that, it will be THE UK

Chart Record, for the 1st 14 Weeks of an Album, in the Charts.

She will never achieve the 33 No.1 Weeks of 'Bridge Over Troubled

Water'. It needed 8 No.1 'Runs' to get them, but Adele will not do that.

Nor will she manage the 30 consecutive No.1 Weeks of The Beatles

1st Album - 'Please Please Me' (1963).

However, the Album No.1 Record, for a Solo Artist Album, is

'Blue Hawaii', by Elvis Presley, in 1962. It spent 17 Weeks, in a row,

at No.1 - with an 18th Week at No.1, earlier in 1962.

He holds 2nd place too - 12 Weeks at No.1, with 'G.I. Blues', in 1961.

It had also been at No.1 twice more, earlier in 1962 - for 7 & 3 Weeks. So,

it was at No.1 for 22 Weeks, over-all - the most by a Solo Album.

The 3rd Solo Album, with the most consecutive No.1 Weeks, is 'Greatest Hits',

by Elton John. 11 No.1 Weeks - 1974/1975.

'But Seriously', by Phil Collins, spent 15 Weeks at No.1, between 1989 &

1990, but that was in 2 'Runs' - 8 + 7 Weeks.

Thanks for that zeuss. I'm going to need this information so I've got something to say each time Adele spends yet another week at number one!

Re Adele. Whats the record for most album sales in a year by an act?. I.e. The sales of all their albums sold in that year added together. Also, what is the yearly sales record for just one album?.

Thanks
