June 1, 201114 yr Author Reaaally don't know whether to go watch her this time or not  Definitely go! Fantastic covers :o (I mean album and single covers :P) Just listening Mama Used To Say it sounds really good! First official remix MAMA USED TO SAY (Cool Million Boogie Down 12" Mix) Aaron when u rip this please pm me :D Ooh, ok, will see what I can do soon. I do love me some Beverley (even seen her live once), but this whole project doesnt excite me! I loved all her previous albums though....not sure whether to buy or not, hmmm I know what you mean. It's kinda hard to get excited for an album of covers. I was like that, but I'm so much more into this project now I know I don't know any of the songs she's covered. I can almost pretend it's original stuff. I'm a bit disappointed the video is just a live style thing, but it'll do. It's footage from the gig I was at! I recognise the camp guy who claps at 2:13 from the area I was standing. I must be slightly off screen to the right. I also recognise the midget lady with glasses to his right from that night. Don't know if I'm pleased or gutted to have narrowly missed out on a part in a music video.
July 5, 201114 yr #6 in the first set of midweeks. WTF? I doubt an album of covers is better than '100%'! :( (Which was a decent enough album!)
July 5, 201114 yr On the contrary this is a well deserved Top 10 placing not only because it is off her own label but all the songs are UK Soul classics with a new edge.I love the album and am very pleased for her.
July 6, 201114 yr Author Being on her own label is a moot point. As I said in another thread, the last album was on her own label too. But, to my surprise, I think I'm generally appreciating this as much as, maybe more than, "100%". It seems so strange to enjoy an album of covers. I can't tell if it's because I wasn't familiar with any of the songs before, but it really feels like it's more than your standard covers album. The only disappointing thing is that they're not Bev originals because the songs she's picked are so good that it feels like it's one of her best albums. (in terms of artistry) Hopefully this set of songs have rubbed off on her again and we see something like this for her next album, only written by her instead.
July 6, 201114 yr Im delighted to see this is doing well in the midweeks, i hope it can hold up, her bene on her own label will probably mean low amounts of promo but hopefully it can hold up and continue to sell.
July 11, 201114 yr Author Round And Around is currently my favourite  Funnily enough, that's easily my least favourite on the album. My favourites are "Damn", "One More Try", "Always And Forever" and "Cuddly Toy". Not sure if I'm impressed with the #13 debut, now I know it sold less than 9000 copies. :(
July 12, 201114 yr Ok so I thought I would support Bev and buy the album, even though I wasnt too fussed on the idea of an album of covers! Havent had a chance to check the DVD out yet, but I am pleasantly surprised by the CD. Bev of course sounds fantastic, and I think it is a very cohesive album, although I would definitely say it not as good as her original material (Who I Am, Affirmation and Music City Soul are almost flawless UK Soul records for me! 100% was pretty great too!). Stand outs for me are the sublime, gospel tinged One More Try, and the rather funky Mama Used to Say. Sadly quite a few of the tracks are a tad bland and repetitive! Maybe it would have benefitted a bit more with a few more well known soul classics on there?
