April 11, 201114 yr again, really happy with those results :D some suggestions: Nirvana- Heart Shaped Box Radiohead- Creep Meat Loaf- I'd Do Anything For Love.. Mariah Carey- Hero
April 11, 201114 yr That was a close one. Disappointed that REM still got through even with my -1 vote! Very much agree with Radiohead and I'll nominate: Usura - Open Your Mind Top 10 Dance song that sampled Simple Minds of all people Suede - Animal Nitrate Their breakthrough Top 10 hit and still one of their best New Order - Regret A return after years away and a great tune Sonic Youth - Sugar Kane Grungey classic for those who could overlook Nirvana hysteria Chaka Demus & Pliers - Tease Me (!) Catchy as hell - has it stood the test of time though? Cypress Hill - Insane in the Brain Now a bonafide rap classic The Goodmen - Give It Up A pounding dance number - shamefully ripped off by Simply Red who took it to no.1 as 'Fairground' The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds An absolute dance classic and still much-loved Leftfield and Lydon - Open Up See The Orb James - Laid I can barely think of a song that has grown in popularity as much as this one - absolutely huge by ten years later Edited April 11, 201114 yr by richie
April 11, 201114 yr Decent list there, Richie. But didn't the Goodmen rip of some other song to make Give It Up?
April 11, 201114 yr I second the nominations for 'Heart Shaped Box', 'Laid', 'Insane in the Brain' and 'Animal Nitrate' I'd also add Spin Doctors 'Two Princes' Jamiroquai 'Too Young to Die'
April 11, 201114 yr Great selections above, i would also add: James - Say Something The Connels - '74 - '75 Counting Crows - Mr. Jones Freddie Mercury - Loving on My Own Annie Lennox - Love Song for a Vampire
April 11, 201114 yr Some of my favourites... Duran Duran 'Ordinary World' Suede 'Animal Nitrate' The Beloved 'Sweet Harmony' NewOrder 'Regret' Bjork 'Venus as a Boy' Bjork & David Arnold 'Play Dead' Paul Weller 'Wild Wood' Depeche Mode 'Walking In My Shoes' Blur 'For Tomorrow' Jamiroquai 'Too Young To Die' James 'Laid' Orbital 'Halcyon' The Smashing Pumpkins 'Cherub Rock'
April 11, 201114 yr The Prodigy received the most points! Nice surprise there, was fully expecting it to only come 4th or 5th :D Shame about SL2 missing out but very good qualifiers otherwise (although I haven't heard the Manics song) Edited April 11, 201114 yr by Bray
April 11, 201114 yr I'm sure you will have even if you don't recognise it. I'd say after 'Everything Must Go' and 'Design for Life' it's their most exposed song and has been for some time....
April 11, 201114 yr I've just realised, we won't get Enjoy The Silence in this because it's a year too early. :( We so should do 1990-2010... :D
April 11, 201114 yr 1990 would've been a great year. 'Enjoy the Silence', 'A Little Time', 'Step On', 'There She Goes'
April 11, 201114 yr I'm sure you will have even if you don't recognise it. I'd say after 'Everything Must Go' and 'Design for Life' it's their most exposed song and has been for some time.... Normally when people say this I recognise it instantly after looking up the lyrics, but I don't recognise them at all for this song.
April 11, 201114 yr It's even the first 'auto result' when typing Manic Street Preachers into Youtube search
April 11, 201114 yr Normally when people say this I recognise it instantly after looking up the lyrics, but I don't recognise them at all for this song. Then look it up on youtube
April 11, 201114 yr It's even the first 'auto result' when typing Manic Street Preachers into Youtube search I didn't know the song from the name, but after listening to parts of the song on YouTube I recognise it. Good song there :)
April 11, 201114 yr Then look it up on youtube  But then I'd lose my claim to having not heard it! :( I did watch it and I definitely have not heard it before. It's decent. They have much better songs (A Design For Life, If You Tolerate This, Everything Must Go)
April 11, 201114 yr Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock  Manic Street Preachers - La Tristessa Durera Chaka Demus and Pliers - Tease Me Radiohead - Creep Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box
April 11, 201114 yr But then I'd lose my claim to having not heard it! :( I did watch it and I definitely have not heard it before. It's decent. They have much better songs (A Design For Life, If You Tolerate This, Everything Must Go) What would you think of someone who wanted to boast about not having heard Someone Like You?
April 11, 201114 yr Motorcycle Emptiness does sound familiar now I've heard it- its a great song actually :o
