Posted April 12, 201114 yr The Bigoted Woman™ is out to put a nail in Clegg's coffin this time... V2geguq27qk
April 12, 201114 yr From the BBC website: Mrs Duffy pressed Mr Clegg over why he had gone into coalition and whether he was happy with the policies the government was pursuing Nick Clegg has been collared by Gillian Duffy - the feisty pensioner who made headlines at the election when she was called "bigoted" by Gordon Brown. The deputy PM was visiting a factory in Rochdale when Mrs Duffy stopped him to ask whether he was happy with the coalition's policies. Mr Clegg told her the government was taking tough decisions in order to cut the UK's deficit. But she replied: "That's just the same speech you gave an hour ago." Mrs Duffy, a lifelong Labour voter, confronted Mr Brown over immigration while he was on an election campaign visit to Rochdale last May. Following the exchange, the then prime minister was heard telling an aide it had been a "disaster" and Mrs Duffy was "just a sort of bigoted woman". Mr Brown later visited her at her home to apologise and said he was "mortified" at the incident. 'Magic wand' Mrs Duffy approached Mr Clegg as he entered the factory and asked him why he had chosen to go into coalition with the Conservatives rather than Labour. "Gordon Brown and I talked about it... [but] there was no way that the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats would have had enough MPs to run a government," he said. Mrs Duffy asked Mr Clegg whether he could look her in the eye and say he was happy with the coalition's policy decisions. He replied: "I tell you what, whoever was in power now, any government now, would have to take difficult decisions. "If anyone's telling you from the Labour Party that somehow there's a magic wand solution, that you can do this without any controversy, they're frankly fibbing to you." Mr Clegg attempted to explain the reasoning behind the government's controversial deficit-reduction strategy, saying future generations would suffer if savings were not made now. But Mrs Duffy said: "I've just been listening to you on the television, and I've listened to you on the radio, and that's just the same speech you gave an hour ago." He replied: "I think it's really important though." Afterwards, Mrs Duffy said Mr Clegg had failed to convince her that the coalition was making the right decisions. "It's gone wrong," she said, "Let's face it, it's all gone wrong." ------------------------ What a load of horse$h!t.
April 12, 201114 yr So, let's get this right. Clegg is now being criticised for saying something entirely consistent with a speech he'd made an hour earlier. If he'd said something which directly contradicted what he had said an hour earlier, that would be news. "Labour voter disagrees with Tory led government" isn't.
April 12, 201114 yr Life-long Labour voter who didn't vote last year :P It's just a standard story to illustrate how it's going. The key exchange of it all really was 'Liberal policies was a lot like Labour policies years and years ago.' - which pretty much sums up why the Lib Dems are completely screwed in the North whatever happens. They were seen as an alternative to New Labour and they've gone and trashed that reputation now.

There's a difference between "consistency" and just parroting out the same spiel over and over again.... He's like a broken record, he thinks just continually repeating the same sh"te will make it any more believable to us, it sounds like he's trying to convince himself more than he's trying to convince Mrs Duffy.... He's not looking at the evidence of what's been going on in the past few months with negative growth and whatnot....
April 12, 201114 yr Author To give Clegg credit (for once), I actually thought he handled this about as well as he could have done, from a PR standpoint - had he answered "yes" to the question "are you happy with how it's going?", it would've triggered a whole slew of criticism about how he was happy about people losing their jobs, etc. But it was still excruciatingly awkward purely because she exposed what a mess the Lib Dems have got into over the past year.
April 12, 201114 yr But it was still excruciatingly awkward purely because she exposed what a mess the Lib Dems have got into over the past year. Yeah, it was pretty funny that bit....  The next one on her "hit-list" has surely gotta be Scam-Moron....
