Yeah, lol. I couldn't really think of anybody in the UK. I guess maybe someone like JLS or Cheryl Cole might be able to debut at #1 with no promo, but they've never tried it before, so we don't know for sure.

But then again, didn't JLS do a collab with Lemar, which did barely anything on iTunes? And then there was the Cheryl mix of Check It Out, which also did barely anything. So I don't think even they have that large fanbases.

Yeah, JLS featured on Lemar's 'What About Love?' and that missed the top 100 even after being performed on some high profile TV event that week (forgotten what it was, I think it was Children In Need?)

Cheryls and Jls fan bases are massive. Just because your examples mentioned didn't do that well, doesn't mean anything. People just went for the original mix of Check it Out since the Cheryl version wasn't that much different.

Lady Gaga is in an entirely different league to anybody else tbh. She's the same as Taylor Swift, etc. She has enough devoted fans to guarantee iTunes #1 no matter what.

That's not necessarily true, 'Chillin'' wasn't exactly a smash hit and whilst 'Alejandro' did well, it didn't do anywhere near as well as previous singles did. Whilst GaGa does have masses of fans that buy pretty much anything she puts out, there are exceptions.

Yeah, they have big fanbases, which is why they are the two artists I singled out as possible "debut at #1 no matter what"s. However, I thought of example where they got nowhere even remotely close to #1.

I think if Lady Gaga had appeard on Check It Out, in the same way that Cheryl did, that the Lady Gaga version would've probably sold more than the original. And I'm also pretty sure if she collabed with Lemar ane performed on TV, she'd go straight in at #1, again, no matter the song.

If anything, it's almost a good thing that other massive artists have songs which don't get bough much, because their fans can use it as evidence that they don't buy literally every song they release.

I would love Lady Gaga to do one of those countdown to album things though (again, massive artists like Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Katy Perry, etc. have done this, and a lot of them didn't do well at all, yet Lady Gaga's would all go to #1 for sure). It'd be vaguely amusing seeing her whole album go to #1 one song after the other tbh.

That's different though. Chillin' was back around when Love Game and Paparazzi were popular, I think. Lady Gaga wasn't that big back then (Bad Romance didn't debut in straight at #1, for example). Alejandro as a post-album single. Logically, that couldn't go straight to #1 either. It wasn't released for months and months after, and even then, Lady Gaga fans aren't crazy enough to buy her album AND cherry-pick EVERY album track on the album release week!

And don't forget about LoveGame :P Although that did lose a lot of sales by being a popular cherrypick what with it being a US single and all. Its overall sales are probably not that far off Alejandro's.

I was surprised Chillin didn't get top 10, though it probably wouldn't have even seen the light of day in the UK if it had a different featured artist. Wale has never had another UK hit (he's released at least one other single but radio stations totally ignored it and it bombed). It was a shame it didn't get top 10 though, I actually really liked it. :(

Katy Perry didn't do an album countdown in the UK, that was US only. (Or if she did do it here all the releases bombed horribly :P)

David Guetta and Eminem both scored a couple of top 100 hits from their countdowns (Eminem had '3am' and 'Old Time's Sake' plus 'Beautiful' which was later a single, Guetta had 'I Wanna Go Crazy' and 'Gettin' Over' which was also later a single, plus I think 'Sexy Bitch' was initially part of the countdown?)

Of the three countdown singles BEP did, the only one that went top 100 was 'Alive' - so that initially outcharted both Imma Be and Meet Me Halfway

Chillin' is my favourite Lady Gaga song, by far. I love Video Phone too, and I'm a moderate fan of Alejandro.

lol. Yeah, funny that nobody bought Meet Me Halfway, then travel forward 6 months and the country has gone crazy for the song! I guess it demonstrates why promotion is needed.

And yeah, Katy Perry didn't do it in the UK, just the US and Canada I think. I didn't follow her songs in Canada, but in the US none of them got into the top 10 on iTunes. Taylor Swift did it though, and every single song got #1 on iTunes, but obviously didn't sell enough to make it officially (especially since they wouldn't have got as much airplay as the proper singles).

But basically, as insane as this must sound, Lady Gaga is in a completely different league to Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, etc. The latter still need to promote their songs, Lady Gaga doesn't. Her fans alone do a better job at promoting her than her record label, probably! Whilst fans of artists like Eminem and David Guetta, in general, really don't care a huge amount about the positions in the singles chart.

It's funny that people say that Gaga has a massive fanbase yet she doesn't have a number one that debuted at number 1 on the official chart

What do you mean? I can't tell if you're pleased or angry about this. Or simply surprised. Or being sarcastic.

I'm such a holy fool oh baby it's so cruel but I'm still in love with Judas baby!!!

Judas for number 1! :cheer:

I agree, this has a much stronger chance than BTW

Why is that shocking?

It's about as shocking as Tyron coming top 3 on a BuzzJack popularity contest.

Simply surprised

Ah okay. I'm guessing you didn't know it was released. So you just opened up the thread and see "Judas up to #10". Yeah, I'd've probably been the same too.

I think it'll get to #1 on iTunes sometime tommorrow.
