Makes me laugh how people think chav's have a particular taste, I'm sure I've heard loads of them playing from dubstep to Adele.

Not sure what to think of Judas just yet, seems a bit weak and like has nothing to it to me?

I hope 'Fast Car' re-enters after BGT. Beautiful song although honestly I prefer the Mutya version to Tracy's.
In 100% seriousness now, I don't think Black and Yellow is that chavvy at all. I'd say the chavviest songs in the current top 100 on iTunes are:

Tik Tok

Katy On a Mission

Like a G6

Backseat (heard this song for the first time today on the radio though, and it's AMAZING)

Buzzin' (probably the MOST chavvy song in the top 100)

Look At Me Now (can't decide if this is chavvy or not, but I'll include it anyway tbh)

^ All those songs are great though, even Tik Tok.

And most "sophisticated", "classy", etc, in the top 100, I'd say are:

Bright Lights, Bigger City

All of the Lights

Rolling in the Deep

I Need a Doctor

Yeah Right

I Need a Dollar

Love the way You Lie

I wouldn't call INAD or LTWYL classy, infact I would class INAD as chavy & SLY should be in the classy list surely?

That is blasphemy. Take that back at once, good fellow. :P

I wouldn't call a song with the lyric 'I slapped my girl, she called the feds' classy.

I know it's basically a matter of opinion and I don't mean to stereotype but I don't actually think any rap song can pass as 'classy' or 'sophisticated'. They're just too sweary most of the time.

 True, although we'd have to exclude Love the Way You Lie and Bright Lights, Bigger City on similar grounds then. But I think All of the Lights is waaaaay too meaningful for chavs, and it's not one of those songs that has a chav-appealing beat either.

About the 'I slapped my girl, she called the feds', I wonder if that also has any connection with the person who sings the hook. Although she was on the receiving end.

Similar with All of the Lights, I Need a Doctor and Love the Way You Lie are far, far too meaningful. Dr. Dre and Eminem have done lots of chavvy songs, but I don't think either of those are at all.

I hate it when people call songs chavvy. end.

Yeah, it does involve a lot of generalization to be fair. As another poster said, "chavs" listen to pretty much anything, just like normal people do, and I know some that even listen to the likes of Adele, Kylie Minogue, Leona Lewis, etc.

There probably are trends between what songs different groups in society like (e.g. Just the Way You Are is probably more popular with females than with males), but, yeah, there's always too many exceptions.

Whenever I think of a 'chavvy' song, I immediately think of 3 Of A Kind - Babycakes. That song got to #1 literally right when the word 'chav' was starting to be used far more commonly in the media/across Britain (which, by the way, I had no idea people still used it, personally, but maybe that's what happens when you don't hang around with teenagers all the time any more). It DEFINES the whole word, in musical form, to me :( The girl member of the group dressed like one, too.

I do kind of agree there, despite my above sentiment of just calling a song that  But back in 2004/05 practically every urban song that did well you had one person groaning: "eugh, it's only doing well because the chavs are buying it!", which got a bit tiring really.

I also do think 'chavvy' is a bit patronising, it implies that if you like it you're a chav, which isn't true

This reminds me, I heard a new Kelly Rowland song on the radio (well, I heard two, one with Nelly, which is really good, it's RnB obviously, and on the radio they said it was going to be called Dilema, Part II originally, but they changed their mind in the end, which I think was a good idea, since everybody would compare it to the original, which is difficult to live up to), I can't remember what it's called, but it's with Alex Gaudino. It's a dance song, obviously, and it's VERY good and a lot like When Love Takes Over. I think, and hope it will be a huge hit.

Babycakes is a dreadful song, one of the worst songs I've ever heard

Its called 'What A Feeling'. I have not yet listened to it, but if its anything like WLTO, I will love it.

Yeah, I can imagine. And I remember in an English lesson at school, our teacher showed us this magazine that did a "word of the year" feature every year, and the word of the previous year was "chav", and I remember we were all like "What's a chav?" Those were the days. We used to call them "kevs" before that though.

I don't spend much time around teenagers anymore either. I spend most of my time with people in their mid-40s now, because I've finished school and I got a 9 to 5 office job, which is great, but I miss being immature with my friends all day. :( And all they talk about in terms of music at work is guitar music from the 70s and 80s. :drama:

Hope Thirteen Senses' Into The Fire re-enters following it's use as background music on BGT.

Well, What a Feeling has a piano loop in the chorus, which is the main similarity (apart from the genre). But yeah, it's definitely more in the When Love Takes Over direction than the Commander direction (although I loved both).
