They can't just decide a song is a buzz single after its release

They did with Natalia Kills. And I only repeated what Jonjo said (he was probably joking and I've escalated it into more than it should be knowing me )

@OMFGMusic (my original source for the Beyonce news) now say that they may decide after the video is released. If it takes off when the video is out, they'll be no need. But apparently her team would rather it be seen as a 'buzz' single than a flop (which is understandable).

Not that it would make much difference, the public might be able to tell what they've done, with the 'cover up'.

Fair enough if it flops. I mean they wouldn't want the actual comeback from a worldwide megastar to be seen as a total flop (and before anyone says Britney - HIAM did go top 10 in quite a few countries, RTW(G) has only done so in Netherlands thus far.) The clip of supposed next single Till The End Of Time which is floating around is sounding far more commercial, like it could actually be a hit.

That is 100% a cover-up. If her comeback is a flop it's a flop. You can't just pretend it was meant to be a buzz single all along

I think some buzz singles have been known to have music videos before anyway. Wait Your Turn/The Wait Is Over by Rihanna is a good example.

One of Wiz Khalifa's recent buzz singles had a music video too (On My Level, I think).

If I were Beyonce's managers, I'd do the same. If the song flops, I'd release something else and see if it works better, rather than go straight to the album as planned.

Exactly, people hear it on the radio and will see the video on TV; so they'll see it as the first single. They won't care if the label 'says' it's a buzz single, first of all most people won't know what the label says, and second most people don't understand what a buzz single is (which is understandable cause it doesn't make much sense)

Beyonce's new single is a HUGE flop by all means.... buzz or not buzz.

there's NO other way to put it...

she just needs to retire & have babies, she would do us all a big favor.

Girls has done better than the average buzz single.

Girls has had no promo at all!

It's not a buzz single though. Her label are just calling it a buzz single now to cover up the fact that it has flopped.

:o OH MY GOD. Is this for real? Video alert, but still wtf.

53. Run the World (Girls) [single Version] - Beyoncé

Anw, what is a buzz single? Like only promotional or something?

I'd define buzz single as a song that's just floating around the internet. Like tracks some indie acts give away for free. The line between a buzz single and an actual single can be defined by proper radio airplay including commercial stations and/or official video. A buzz single should not have either of them.

So in theory it's possible to say afterwards that a song is just a buzz single but for a high profile act like Beyoncé it might mean that the song has failed to become a proper single = there's a lack of interest. But anyway, buzz singles can be planned.

The whole term 'buzz single' is pretty much pointless these days though when all songs are available online - as is the term 'single' itself. It's more about the level of action from the artist/band itself or the record label.

T-Pain has released three "official" singles for RevolveR (TYSO, RC, RS), and all three have been demoted to buzz single after being massive flops.
Beyonce's management saying its a buzz single is such a cover up, it is flopping and they don't want to accept that. And even if it is a buzz single, Jessie J's 'Do It Like A Dude' was a buzz single too and that was massive, so they made it into a proper release.. it is no excuse for one of the biggest stars in the world to be flopping massively everywhere.

Taken from T-Pain's Wikipedia page:

In November 2009, T-Pain released the first single from his fourth studio album, "Take Your Shirt Off".[25] The single only managed to reach number eighty on the Hot 100, and was later dubbed a promotional single. Later, in February 2010, he released the official lead single from his fourth studio album, "Reverse Cowgirl", featuring Young Jeezy.[26] He later release an updated version of the song excluding Young Jeezy's verse and adding a new bridge. The single reached number seventy-five on the Hot 100 and number sixty-four on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, becoming a mild hit. The single has since been dubbed a promotional single.

Haha. Poor T-Pain.

His song with Chris Brown did okay though, I think. I heard they were going to make a music video for it.

I doubt Adele will be number one this week. Her Gap is big - but not enough. Her Airplay will let her down.

Hopefully we will see the debut of Tinie Tempah in the Top 10 !
