Seems that rap is becoming popular sales-wise again. Three rap songs in iTunes top 10 atm + hybrids like PRA and GME

There hasn't been a rap number one on Hot 100 in ages. Well Black & Yellow actually did reach number one but before that was Eminem with LTWYL and Crack a Bottle.

I have noticed hip hop has been less popular over the past couple of years, but I don't think it's been that unpopular. It has still been one of the biggest genres in the US.

This year, there has been Black and Yellow as you said, and E.T. aswell. The single version has two rap verses, but even the album version, the beat is basically hip hop, even if nobody is actually rapping on it.

Last year there was Imma Be, Nothin' On You, Not Afraid, Love the Way You Lie and Like a G6. And OMG kind of is aswell (although that song is like a combination of 5 genres tbh ). And Airplanes didn't get #1, but that was an absolutely massive hit too.

2009 was worse, because that only really had Crack a Bottle, Boom Boom Pow and Empire State of Mind, although there were also Right Round, I Gotta Feeling and Down which were kind of hip hop.

So I think it's done quite well really. Although one major trend I've noticed over the past few years is a lot of hip hop songs are using electronic beats now (see: Boom Boom Pow, Like a G6, etc.).

How is Right Round kind of Hip Hop when you classify Like A G6 as a Hip Hop Song? The latter is more like electro-pop to me.

Plus E.T doesn't even sound Hip Hop to me, sounds more like an electro-pop song as well..

Yea I wouldn't really classify most songs Eric mentioned rap because they're mostly electronic pop with occasional rap verses. I should've said "hip hop" in the first place.

Nothin' on You is pretty close though.

I'd definitely say Like a G6 sounds more hip hop than Right Round. By quite a way tbh. Right Round is basically a pop song, but it has rapping and sampling, which are basically THE two main characteristics of a hip hop song, so I could see why someone would call it hip hop.

Yeah, I agree that E.T. is electropop, but I think it's quite hip hop too, because of the beat. Infact, E.T.'s instrumental actually was originally for a hip hop artist. And it's shocking how many mixtapes I've heard it on.

I'm clearly very liberal with what I consider hip hop though.

I wouldn't say "most" of them are electropop. E.T., Imma Be (the second half only, obviously), Like a G6, OMG, Right Round and I Gotta Feeling are, I'd say.

Selena Gomez and the Scene first promo single from the new album is #33 on the US Itunes chart. She is climbing..

Her first single Who Says is staying in TOP25, now #21 :)

Congratz on Selena :)

And cmon Gaga, put your The Edge Of Glory top 10 airplay!

Ooh, Coldplay back up to #3 :D Has it been performed somewhere? As it also dropped to 4 then climbed back to 3 in the UK...

Paramore in the top 10 :D Hopefully it can beat their H100 peak (#24 with The Only Exception).

91. Blow (Remix) [feat. B.o.B.] - Ke$ha

Wait what? When did this happen?

Wow. WTF!? Would NEVER have expected that collab! :o

I'm listening to it now though! :o It's actually quite good. B.o.B does great rapping, as expected. And the actual song itself seems to be sped up quite a bit! :o

Release date says May 17th, and that would work going by how long it seems to have been on YT for. First thing I've heard about it though, can't see any mentions in the thread in the pop forum. First time it's made the top 100 though?
I heard the Ke$ha/B.o.B. remix a couple of weeks ago :o

It's shameful that Paramore's US peak is "The Only Exception", I'm assuming "Monster" will go well past it as soon as all the Transformers-related promo kicks in.
Gaga, Lil Wayne and Paramore have been swapping places constantly for the past day now...
