April 25, 201114 yr I do wish there was something that could promote unkown/new artists, music channels and radio only stick to a few - maybe these songs could get some sales, if only people knew they existed. Radio 1 are fairly good with doing that imo. Collaborations are a common way of breaking the mainstream too nowadays. A not famous artist and a famous artist can put out a song together. Radio will play the song because of the famous artist, and if the song gets popular, so does the not famous artist, then the not famous artist can put out a song and radio would be more likely to play it. Although, thinking more about the idea in the OP, surely if you got a truly fair group of 10 people (i.e. no biased towards one genre, musical style, etc.), surely wouldn't they all end up balancing each other out, resulting in the chart being exactly the same? Also, your signiture seems to change every few minutes. Edited April 25, 201114 yr by Eric_Blob
April 25, 201114 yr The chart is completely fine the way it is, higher the sales, higher the position. Simples.
April 25, 201114 yr I'd love to be a judge, whoever offers me the most money I'll happily vote for their artist top that week!
April 25, 201114 yr ^ I Know you're only joking but can you imagine the underhand deals record companies would be making! :D
April 25, 201114 yr Author I think a Critics Only Chart would work as it could give unknown artists the chance to shine. On top of that, 50/50 would stop acts going to top 10 just because of their name only regardless of the song. I think Lady Gaga would be punished for her two recent bad singles. It makes me upset that Bruno Mars will go to #1 with his current weak single yet someone like Chase and Status fail to hit the top 10. I would say there is "block sales", but what doesn't help is urban music is just hyped on almost every music channel and radio. Also with 50/50, the Glee stuff would occupy the bottom places.
April 25, 201114 yr Author I have not decided to rank the top 100 for this week, but here is the top 10 being tested as an example. Public 1st, Jury 2nd, Total then pos LMFAO 1+9=10 4th WRETCH 32/EXAMPLE 2+4=6 3rd J-LO 3+2=5 2nd TRACEY CHAPMAN 4+1=5 1st CHRIS BROWN 5+10=15 8th SNOOP DOGG 6+7=13 7th KATY FT KAYNE 7+3=10 5th BEP 8+5=13 6th LADY GAGA 9+8=17 10th 50C 10+6=16 9th
April 25, 201114 yr Yeah, I think it might be interesting to see what such a chart would look like. But I think the current official chart should stay using the same methodology (well, almost the same, whatever it is that stopped songs like Umbrella by JLS and Salt in the Wounds by Pendulum charting needs to change imo), but a 50/50 chart could be interesting from a music perspective, if that makes sense. Using the results of the Reshuffle Chart as the critics chart, from last week, the top 10 would've ended up something like this doing 50/50: 1. On the Floor 2. E.T. 3. Party Rock Anthem 4. Someone Like You 5. Sweat 6. S&M 7. Just Can't Get Enough 8. Don't Hold Your Breath 9. Beautiful People 10. Buzzin' Edited April 25, 201114 yr by Eric_Blob
April 25, 201114 yr No You might as well hire 10 members from Buzzjack to judge the chart, I'm sure we are much better than having critics. :D
April 25, 201114 yr Music charts are about what people like, not about what a bunch of snobbish "experts" decide is good or bad. A judging panel of experts? Let's look at the evidence. :D Craig David (love him or loathe him) was undeniably one of the most successful British solo male artists in 2000. In 2001 he was nominated in 8 Brit Awards categories and won nothing. Had the public voted, this might've been very different. A panel of judges decide who wins the Mercury Music Prize each year. Step forward Speech Debelle who was such a popular winner, her album went on to sell 15 copies the following week. To conclude. no.

April 25, 201114 yr seriously I think we could've seen an even longer run for Adele, and maybe number 1s from Noah and The Whale, Foo Fighters and The Vaccines if this chart was real
April 25, 201114 yr I don't get this one  I thought The BRITS are voted for by the public? I might be wrong but I'm sure back around 10 years ago the winners of the majority of Brit Awards were selected by a panel of judges. Not too sure about categories like Best Single (usually Radio 1 voters) and Mastercard Best Album (usually The Sun readers) but even if that was the case, that would still leave 6 categories.
April 25, 201114 yr I don't get this one  I thought The BRITS are voted for by the public? Not all of them, how did Laura Marling win best female artist in that case
April 25, 201114 yr HA, I'm sure all the judges were pissed the night before. It was definitely a suspicious circumstance. It was moreso the fact that so much money went on Speech Debelle about 2 hours before they announced the winner. I still think something dodgy happened that year - clearly you can't fool the public, if they think an album is $h!t, no award ceremony will persuade them to buy it.
April 25, 201114 yr Author I think Speech Debelle was a random vote, even to this day considering the competition she was up against I reckon they didnt listen to the albums. Makes you wonder if Speech sold her p*ssy to the judges. I mean yes we get random votes, but I think with this in the singles charts, it would work.
April 25, 201114 yr Not all of them, how did Laura Marling win best female artist in that case  I know, that is a strange one, considering Ellie Goulding and Cheryl Cole were much more well known, and sold a lot more.
April 25, 201114 yr maybe number 1s from Noah and The Whale, Foo Fighters  'L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.' and 'Rope' being UK #1 hits would be brilliant. Of course I'm sure many a Buzzjacker would be horrified at such a thought. :D
April 25, 201114 yr The competition Speach Debelle was up against that year was incredible, It was bizzare she won.
