The Voice seems to have stolen their thunder a little bit too...

I heard that 'The Voice' got really good viewing figures, but still it could never be up there with American Idol and X Factor because basically those two shows are on the two biggest TV channles, while 'The Voice' is on NBC.

I am so glad she has done this actually. This is a quick way to make sure she is no longer the 'UK's sweetheart' and we finally get rid of her and her awful choices on the UK X Factor. I don't know what Simon thinks he is doing, it is obvious that the US wont take to her, they arent going to listen to some girl's opinions that they have never heard of, cant sing and can't understand anything she says due to her accent. Its not going to go down well, and her music would flop massively in the US, as its $h!t and the only reason it has sold well over here is because she has a big fanbase, which will decrease when she ditches the UK for America.

I so hope we get Nicole or someone good over here. If the panel in the US is going to be Simon, Cheryl, that producer and Paula, then I hope we can get someone good as all the $h!t judges are doing the US one. Kelly Rowland was also in talks with Simon to do the US X Factor, and if she hasnt got it, mabye she could be the new UK judge? Most likely though, we will get another $h!t judge in the form of Mel B as she has hinted to it strongly in interviews.

Imma just take a second to laugh at the sheer stupidity displayed in this post before I address it

Ok, so, where to begin.

Well, American Idol and X Factor are going to be shown on the same channel, Fox. Who has only recently become a big name in the US. They still have 15hrs of programming, far far far far less than CBS, ABC and NBC who are the 3 biggest networks in the US. Fox is the biggest on ratings for this year, but if you took AI out of it there would be a 3 way scrap for #2 between ABC, Fox and NBC with CBS MILES out in front.

Also I have no idea what your smoking, as the Voice is the second highest rated show on US TV right now behind the X Factor.

So, in conclusion, Fox is far from the biggest US network. Only the CW has less screen time and resources. [Hell, NBC is part of NBC Universal. HOW THE HELL ARE THEY NOT A BIG CHANNEL?????? They have an unrivaled collection of Cable TV Channels, Music resources and Movie Resources.] Also, NBC's rating have only taken a very recent nose dive because of the quality of their programming, or lack thereof, and the success of The Voice shows that NBC is still a big player capable of seriously impressive ratings. There is very little difference between ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC. If you look at programming hours, Fox is the smallest. 18-49ratings Fox is the biggest, just [Once you remove the Superbowl] and on viewer numbers CBS wins. Year on Year NBC has actually INCREASED viewers after you factor out the Winter Olympics.

It wouldn't hurt to use google once in a while....

I was just repeating what a friend from the US told me, no need to react like this. I welcome your knowledge about US networks, but you could have corrected me AND been nice at the same time... is it really that hard to talk to me in a nice way?

Good if 'The Voice' is on a huge network though, as I do love that show as well. :)

I liked Cheryl in her first series, but her and Simon together became pretty annoying to watch after a while. Will be interesting to see if she actually does well out there.. & She won't really have the option of coming back here as most will feel she's become too big for her boots/decided to abandon the UK

Er, no it's not the second highest rated. It has fairly average ratings at the moment. It recently got 12.5million compares to Idols well over 20million. The Voice is beaten by many scripted series.

EDIT: Oh if you mean the 18-49 demographic then yes, it is probably 2nd at the moment! In terms of viewers though it doesn't come close.

Silas there was no need for that against Hayzayy. In some way she is quite right. Fox is by far the highest rated network in America so it has an immediate advantage over NBC which is basically struggling. Take out the Voice and NBC have hardly any hit shows.

Mel B is actually going to be a X Factor but as an Australian judge

This could go one of two ways; Cheryl actually does appeal to a young American audience, she quickly adopts the title "Britains Latest Most Adored Export" since Taio Cruz. Or Simon Cowell will bribe his way to ensuring Cheryl is a success even though the Americans just don't "get" what Cheryl Cole is all about.

At least Paula Abdul (despite being Amercian) had a successful history in the US and was a well known public figure. I just can't imagine Cheryl being popular to the point 'Fight For This Love' breaks all US Billboard chart records and becomes the first track ever to debut at #1 for a new artist.

The mind boggles!!! Still, good luck to Cheryl Cole - I suspect she will desperate need it eventually.

"because I'm worth it"

Yes, we're talking 18-49. No need to mention total viewing figures, they don't matter over there.

Viewing figures are wonderful for PR and absolutely USELESS for everything else. The money the US TV networks gets comes PURELY from the 18-49 ratings, hence my stressing that The Voice was the second highest rated show on Network TV right now.

Hayzayy is a he btw. Fox has only recently become a 18-49 heavyweight winning last season for the FIRST time, it looks set to deliver it's SECOND yearly victory this year.

I'm not going to disagree that NBC is in a hole and is currently a little bit screwed, but it is still a BIG BIG BIG network with a $h!tload of money behind it. Saying a show has a disadvantage from being on NBC is rubbish. As the Office proves [One of the top10 show on US TV EVERY week] if NBC put out a good show, then it will get big ratings. NBC has a problem that it's currently showing $h!t shows, and the ratings respond to that. The Voice shows clearly that NBC is still a force to be reckoned with and that the other 3 big networks were getting a big complacent towards it. [ABC are actually only doing fractionally better than NBC]

Oh, and like I said, when you ignore the Winter Olympics NBC is the only network to actually increase it's season average 18-49 rating year on year. Everyone else is down [sans SuperBowl Fox is down by an INSANE amount. Hardly a heavy weight when your ratings are down double digits year on year]

That comment was made because a tiny bit of googling would have shown that the post was factually incorrect. Googling is not a hard task to do.

Mel B is actually going to be a X Factor but as an Australian judge

Thank god. Nicole or Kelly then please

Why bother with these 'celebrities'. It's all about raising profile. Why not get somebody who is an expert to be a judge or is a decent singer. I hope ITV aren't thinking about airing American X Factor on ITV1.

Don't you understand TV? They need the celebrities for audiences to be familiar with who they are seeing. Imagine a panel filled with Label execs etc? It would be dreadful.

They are airing it on ITV2.

Rubbish. The point of the show is about finding talent, not making it into a show about 'the celebrities'. If it's going to be awful then it should be cancelled.

Yes the point of the show is about finding talent, but the TV networks couldn't give a flying $h!t who wins they just want the ratings. Hence the celebrity judges.

Of course in America they need actual celebrities to attract viewers to watch shows like Idol and The Voice.Jennifer Lopez and Christina are the two biggest draws for most viewers to those shows, finding talent takes second place they have always been about the judges.

I think Cheryl will, fail miserably no matter how much Simon has convinced Fox execs that she is an International superstar-it is only a matter of time until the US press start to make a big deal about her own lack of singing ability and constant miming and of course the assault conviction will certainly get plenty of attention there and the unseemly circumstances surrounding it.

All those comments reminds me when she was first offered the job on X Factor UK, everyone was saying it would be a fail and she would be sacked after season one.

Same when it emerged she would release solo material, everyone said she would be a one-hit wonder and wouldn't have any lasting career or album selling appeal.

Somehow it also reminds when people said Girls Aloud would be dead after the first album, or would never be able to make it to album three.

I mean, of course all those situations are clearly different, but I think people are generally quick to judge and bet she's gonna be a flop over there or will kill the show. Not that I'm convinced she'll be huge, but somehow I think Simon knows what he's doing. Yes, it's not the obvious MEGASTAR IN THE US option he could have gone with, but Cheryl could potentially make it big, I think.

We'll see what happen, and I'm sure this topic will be fun when in a few months we look back at it and at what people were predicting

the difference is she was far more well known in the UK, Girls Aloud are very well known, and she'd been in the papers before- plus she was very pretty, so it was instant success really- in the US, she'll have nothing more than being pretty to back her up
ha. FINALLY. Cheryl Cole out of the country at last. I'd be surprised if the US takes to her at all anyway.
