Blue get straight through, the UK always do as do France, Spain and Germany and I think one other country.

Oh I hope they get through! It'd be better if they were representing the UK though.

I find it odd that more and more, (sort of) well-known acts are going to Eurovision. Perhaps it has always been like that though and I just don't remember.

Would you believe that from the 300 odd people that have watched the rehearsals and voted on who they think is most likely to qualify from the second semi, Jedward have come out on top :o Ratings will be much higher in the UK if they do make it - I think the first hour clashes with Britain's Got Talent, but if Jedward make the final and are drawn to perform in the first half (i.e. the first hour of the contest), I expect BGT will have a slight reduction in viewers this week...If they make the final and are drawn to perform when BGT has finished, ESC ratings will shoot up for a bit.

 

Blue are performing in the 14th slot actually, which is probably around about 9pm on the dot - lets hope people change channels in time to see them!

I think each country is only allowed to vote in one semi - for most of Europe it will be the semi that their song is in. For the automatic qualifiers, I don't know if it is by choice or by draw which semi they vote in

'Bad Romance' really isn't as good as people on here make out imo. It's a great pop song, don't get me wrong, but it's really not "pop perfection". The lyrics are ridiculous in parts, the music is still quite generic, it's only really the "Ra Ra Ra-a-a-ah" bit that made it seem unique.

 

As a pure song, as I've said a number times, "Bad Romance" is terrible. The structure is messed up and the lyrics are, as you say, ridiculous (I'd say more than in parts though).

We can only vote for them if they reach the final. The 'Big 5' (UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy) don't take part in the semis, but are allowed to vote in one each, which is decided based on a number of factors. They try to keep countries apart that might be expected to vote for each other neighbourly (you'll never find Sweden and Norway in the same semi). This year, we're voting in the first semi tomorrow night, but Jedward are in the second semi on Thursday. IF they reach the final, then yes of course we can vote for them, and any other song.

The "of recent years" doesn't say much though.

 

It's no better than the likes of 'Tainted Love' or 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)' etc in terms of pop masterpieces...although those songs are more new wave/synth-pop.
