+117 1980 ABBA "Super Trouper"

+107 1980 Blondie "The Tide Is High"

This is an 80s number ones rate using every song that hit number 1 in the 1980s. What will happen is there will be 10 rounds, the first being 1980, then 1981 etc. up to round 10 which will be 1989. The top 4 from each round will go straight to the final, and 5th to 7th placed will go in a "wildcard" round.

The top ten songs from the "wildcard" round will be put into the final round to make a top 50 of the decade. After the final the next rate will be 00s number 2s

How you rate the songs; exactly the same as last time, you do not rate every song that hit number one, you just rate your ten favourites and your least favourite. You give +15 points to your favourite song, and the rest are as follows; This is to hopefully stop ties from happening inside the top 3.

+15 Favourite Song

+12 2nd Favourite Song

+10 3rd Favourite Song

+08 4th Favourite

+06 5th Favourite

+05 6th Favourite

+04 7th Favourite

+03 8th Favourite

+02 9th Favourite

+01 10th Favourite

-02 Least Favourite, or Most Hated depending on what way you look at it

These are the songs you need to rate from. You have 2 days for every round to rate. This means the deadline is Tuesday morning and hopefully round 4 (1983) will be up by then.

Eurovision looning once again, but there we go. Come On Eileen and The Model are just as good but have far more chance of picking up votes elsewhere to qualify so I've favoured Nicole.

Not such a great year this one!!!

After two glorious years for #1s, we've now got one where I only like 4 of them.

Shame that Roxy Music just missed out. I didn't think they would get that high though :o Predictable top 4 but can't really complain as all are classics (though not all my personal faves from that year).

+15 The Jam - A Town Called Malice/Precious

+12 Bucks Fizz - The Land Of Make Believe

+10 Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie

+8 Culture Club - Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?

+6 The Jam - Beat Surrender

+4 Madness - House Of Fun

+3 Tight Fit - The Lion Sleeps Tonight

+2 Bucks Fizz - My Camera Never Lies

+1 Adam Ant - Goody Two Shoes

-2 Renée & Renato - Save Your Love (Just NO!!!!)

Have to agree with the general sentiment here - this year is rubbish compared to 1980 and 1981!

+15 Dexy’s Midnight Runners with The Emerald Express “Come On Eileen” my favourite number 1 of the 80s

+12 Tight Fit “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”  :kink:

+10 Survivor “Eye Of The Tiger”

+8 Madness “House of Fun”

+1 Renee & Renato “Save Your Love”

I don't agree with the general opinion - Amazing year for number 1s :o I love every single one of these (even Save Your Love in a novelty kind of way :kink: )

random fact: this year had two number 1s that both referred to animals- and were both big cats :o

I hate hate hate Come On Eileen - clearly I am in a minority.

Nope, I think it's rubbish! But it'd have to be truly atrocious to be worse than Renée and frickin' Renato. Irene Cara, Charlene, Goombay Dance Band, Nicole and Eddy Grant are also crap by my book. I don't know what the public were on in 1982 with some of the crap they put at #1 - especially when the surrounding years are all either good or excellent for #1 singles.

Sadly, I think the Dexy's have this group sewn up though! I hope Culture Club qualify - The Jam are a cert surely and I don't think any of my other big faves have a chance.
