Don't you think it odd that in the era of shops opening on Sunday's, charts start counting for a new week on a Sunday, downloads are available 24/7 and singles come out on a Sunday. That you still have to wait until the Monday to buy a new album?

I think it's about time they changed this. Sunday is already considered one of the busiest days for downloads, surely they are just losing out on extra sales

Logically, I see no reason why not. It would have a minimal impact on sales due to the dominance of physical albums but I've always found it a little odd that they're out on a Monday.

I think the download should be available on Sunday, with the physical following on Monday (many people still willlingly go out and buy albums from shops unlike singles), this may be how it works already, so sorry if that is how it is :drama:

I don't see why they can't release CD albums now on Sundays too? Most if not all HMV's etc open on Sundays and they normally get new releases on the Friday or Saturday before release?

It's the same old, being too scared to try new things. (without being forced too)

I agree with this. I literally cannot see any reason why digital albums aren't released on Sunday. I can't think of one.
Don't know about downloads, but in terms of physicals I imagine places like HMV don't employ the necessary colleagues (stock control, display changers etc) on a sunday as they would be more expensive on sunday rates than the part timers that most retailers employ at weekends, though that is not meant as a criticism of anyone who's ever done weekend work in retail (I do myself).

I used to work in HMV (including Sundays) and they always have the same members of staff, so that wouldn't come into it :)

Irritaing as I tend to go into HMV on a Sunday after work, meaning that the only time my physical sale (apart from ordering online) can contribute to an album chart position on its second week. As such, I become more prone to either order them on the weekend before release, or just download them digitally. Record labels are forcing digital versions upon us!

Traditionally it would have been because independent shops sometimes got their deliveries later and in many cases they probably didn't open on Sundays and it would make things fairer on them.

But with so few independent shops still around that argument is a lot weaker these days.....

I never thought of that BUT record labels etc should work with indies to make that not such a great problem :)

This might be a little bit silly but probably because some couriers don't work on a Sunday its even more stupid when its a Bank Holiday week as some stores don't get their new stock till Tuesdays. I can't see no harm in releasing albums on a Sunday especially later on when the digital age will move forward when albums are not available physically, surely eventually albums have to go down the digital route at some point.

A friend of mine owned a record store in the 90s. It was never a problem for him as he got most new releases in on a Thursday or Friday anyway (and therefore I did too! :) )
