That was the 'Mother's Day effect' though. Very much a one-off week if you

look at the sales.

Selling over 257k in your tenth week when the album is already a comfortable million seller is not a feat to be sniffed at though. I wouldn't describe it as a 'one-off week' either as her first week had over 80% of the sales of that week and she managed 3 other weeks where she sold over 2/3 of it, which is much more than you can say about most albums with similar peak weekly sales, especially ones released outside of Q4.

Indeed it is not to be sniffed at but the point I am making is that there was a very specific reason for it to have been selling so many copies in that particular week. I said 'one off' in relation to the sales immediately preceeding & following this week, rather than sales many week beforehand.

There's generally a very specific reason for any album's peak weekly sales though (usually just because it's the album's first week). I understand your point but it didn't seem particularly necessary. It is very unusual that her peak sales were in her tenth week, Mother's Day or not, especially considering her sales weren't exactly unimpressive before then :P

Fair enough it was a one-off week in relation to the surrounding weeks though.

I think the album will sell BUCKETLOADS around the Xmas period aswell. This album will be around in the top 5 for months to come yet.
Im very well aware it was the mothers day effect, but i still cant believe she sold 257,000 in the 10th week after 9 weeks over selling over 135k. Mothers day or not, thats ridiculous amounts.

Well, what else could it have been to cause such a tremendous spike in sales?

My point was completely necessary. How can you argue it was not?

21 reached those levels of sales due to Mother's day. Yes it's unusual for an album to reach a sales peak 10 weeks after release but so what, how else can you account for the huge rise in sales in that particular week, and indeed even bigger drop the week after?

Calm down everyone. Effectively, you are all right. The jump in sales was due to Mothering Sunday. However, that doesn't alter the fact that the sales that week were staggeringly high for an album that had already sold so many copies.

Now, six months on, she's still rewriting the record books.

Well, what else could it have been to cause such a tremendous spike in sales?

Are you not actually reading what Im saying or just trolling?

I havent said that Mothers Day wasnt the cause for the spike. Im fully aware thats why the sales peaked, and it wouldnt have sold so much if it werent, it would have just kept selling over 100,000 for a few more weeks.

As Bre said, every album has a reason for peak sales. My point was I find it amazing that she sold 257k in a 10th week.

Please, read this post properly before you argue for the sake of arguing. thanks.

You said 'Mother's day or not' which indicated to me you weren't sure whether that was the reason.

I don't get how you guys don't think Adele can sell another million by the end of the year? Have you never seen album sales over xmas? Her touring, possible new single, x factor and xmas she'll walk 4 million.

Maybe we realise that going from 0 to 1m is a hell of a lot easier than going from 3m to 4m? In the latter case, so many people already have the album, it's hard to find large numbers of additional people who still want it!

Perhaps a lot will be given it for Christmas, whether they want it or not :)

I said 'Mothers day or not', because even though there was a reason for it, it had massive sales in its tenth week. I dont know how I could have made that any clearer.

Agreed, it will be the xmas CD present of choice.

You could have made it clearer by avoiding the use of the words 'or not'. This implies some kind of 'either/or' situation and you are not sure which is correct. This ambiguity has led to misunderstanding and argument. If you wish to avoid this in future, I suggest you make your posts clear as to what you mean to say.

Well, I'm actually considering buying it now. There may be many like me.
