May 15, 201114 yr At least you finished there ONCE and not twice in a row like a certain country that i am from. :( I've just realised Russia have missed the top ten three years in a row now :o Even with the world's biggest pop producer behind you! What more can you do? :P The moral of the story is, if you're going to plaster your own face up on screens behind you, you will finish 11th. Russia 2009/UK 2011, we should have seen it coming -_-
May 15, 201114 yr Ireland didn't give anything to the winner. When was the last time Ireland gave the winner a 12?
May 15, 201114 yr Just wondering what the BBC will do next year. We don't need an established singer, just a great song (like I believe 'I Can' is), and someone who can sing even if they are unknown, a la Jade. Surely it isn't as hard to get a good songwriter to write for us (just not people like Pete Waterman). Jedward would probably be willing to do it again if they BBC asked, but maybe the novelty would've warn off (their act isn't like Lena, who did manage two top 10s). Horrible thought, a male/female duo won. I hope Ell & Nikki aren't asked to present next year.
May 15, 201114 yr I think the BBC would've thought that name alone (+ a pretty good song) would guarantee them a top 5. I just hope that the UK doesn't fall back onto the 'oh it was bloc voting' and send Andy Abrahams again next year :P. Hopefully this won't happen. Some of the countries that managed to go top five (Sweden/Denmark) couldn't have got anywhere other than the bottom five solely by bloc voting. The BBC don't even necessarily have to send a big name act, Ell & Nikki, Mika Newton and A Friend In London are hardly household names anywhere! But they DO need to make sure they send another high quality pop song next year, I still think that we can and will win it again at some point. 11th isn't anything to be ashamed of, rather a run of getting 7th-14th type positions until we find that winner/top five instead of sending a stream of crap apart from the one year in five that they decide to make an effort. On another note, the point that I made earlier in the week has been proven entirely correct - this is a SONG contest, not a vocal contest. The strongest vocal performances arguably came from France and Austria, and look where they came! Yet the reedy vocals of Azerbaijan, the screeching Ukraine and the not exactly amazing vocal from Sweden (even though the performance was by far the highlight) all managed to come top four! Blue could have turned in the greatest vocal ever and wouldn't have done any better, not for politically motivated reasons, but because the SONG wasn't popular enough. So all of the Keith Mills-alikes predicting the top ten to be full of the best vocalists should remember this for the future! Nobody could possibly put France's huge failure down to a poor vocal!
May 15, 201114 yr Maybe we should try and sending Sugababes next year. :magic: might just revive their career. :heehee:
May 15, 201114 yr Sugababes I'd be all for, Sugafakes no. Amy MacDonald would be a good choice imo, she's in dire need of a career resuscitation in the UK, yet's still popular enough in Europe that with a great song she could do very well indeed. As long as people in the UK stop thinking about ESC as the nail in a coffin of their career, then we could get continually decent acts representing us. Regardless of how Blue did yesterday, I Can is looking to be something of a European comeback hit for them.
May 15, 201114 yr Eric got a lousy draw, he was on 7th in the middle of a bloc of uptempos. It was between Sweden and Ukraine for 7th and 23rd in the running order. Had Ukraine picked the other slot out the bag, Eric would have gone 23rd. One later than the slot which Lena won from last year. Later slots statistically do much better, 2nd position in the running order has never ever produced a winner. The songs in 22nd and 24th would have provided a great contrast allowing Popular to stand out further. Basically, if Ukraine had picked the other slot, Eurovision 2012 would be in Stockholm. So it was more bad luck than impropriety.
May 15, 201114 yr Over at Digital Spy they have just announced the viewing figures. The triple whammy of Jedward and Blue and Vera Prada winning! Ha at Britain's Got Talent - beaten! If ever the BBC needed a reason to carry on sending great songs, this is a very good one.
May 15, 201114 yr Huge. I'm sure the average last year was less than 6million :o Big jump at 9pm with people switching over from BGT, just in time for Blue. Peaking with over a 60% share :o :D Keep it up BBC, this is what you can achieve with effort. Though we don't know how much is down to Jedward.
May 15, 201114 yr Can't believe Italy, Bosnia and Greece were so high, 3 of the worst BY FAR! Azerbaijan was really good, I ranked it 7th. But it shouldn't have won. It all seemed very close though. UK coming 11th is not great, I was hoping for at least top 10, shame Germany beat us at the last second! Aww well, I'm suprised UK still enter this.

May 15, 201114 yr Can't believe Italy, Bosnia and Greece were so high, 3 of the worst BY FAR! BLASPHEMY. SAID TWICE. I could forgive Italy and Greece but Bosnia? Worst? OMG. *takes it personally*
May 15, 201114 yr BLASPHEMY. SAID TWICE. I could forgive Italy and Greece but Bosnia? Worst? OMG. *takes it personally* Oops didn't mean to post twice. Bosnia were bearable. But Italy and Greece just hideous!
May 15, 201114 yr How does tonight indicate bloc voting? Yea it's more about similar tastes really, not 'blocs' Exactly! People go on about how the Eastern Europeans have spoilt it with bloc votng in recent years but it has always been the case that neighbouring countries are more inclined to vote for each other.....
May 15, 201114 yr I think this year proved us that the bloc voting could have its last years in ESC. I mean Russia got only a 5 from Belarus. And we were never awarded with anything higher than an 8 (only one time!). Russia for DNQ next year :D

And we were never awarded with anything higher than an 8 (only one time!). Russia for DNQ next year :D The end of diaspora voting too? Greece got NUL POINTS from the UK (it feels great to say that!) Lithuania managed six points though - they do have a fairly big diaspora here and in Ireland but perhaps the juries just liked the song a lot?
May 15, 201114 yr Ireland didn't give anything to the winner. When was the last time Ireland gave the winner a 12? Correction, when was the last time Ireland didn't give Lithuania (if they quailified) 12 points
May 15, 201114 yr Exactly! People go on about how the Eastern Europeans have spoilt it with bloc votng in recent years but it has always been the case that neighbouring countries are more inclined to vote for each other..... Indeed, and isn't it just obvious that San Marino give 12 points to Italy. Their country is in the middle of Italy. It's like Manchester giving points to the UK.
